Hello stranger, not been around for ages as you probably know. Loved it. The Cromwell is always the model that escapes me !!!! Anyway I don't if it helps you, I'm sure you've donemit before with the Talent you have ( I hate you !!!) For tracks I use Tamiya dark iron, again my wee saying/catchphrase etcetc "different projects, different approaches" ! But I'd say 90% of time it's that Tamiya colour. It's XF-84 Dark Iron. I will say though I now like Tamiyas Lacquer range. They are fantastic. Just my opinion ! But I still have a wee stroll down memory lane, with the acrylics!!!! Lol. I'm hopefully, when metal and paper modelling vouchers allow I want to try the Ak 3gen or whatever they are called. Anyway sorry buddy, you said about the cotton wool, ear cleaning thingys being a pain in the ass with leftover cotton wool after use. Well, I may have a solution ( no model stuff ! Lol ). Before I stopped filming on my channel matey I saw these " Make up" sticks or summit that when you buy powder make up ( usually) you get a sort of little plastic stick that has a sponge type of stuff on each end. If you've ever tried them Tamiya include them in their weathering type product that looks like a make up thing. They also do a pen or pencil type weathering stick it looks like, which are the same as the aforementioned item but bigger. Well i normally get my mums, sisters or whoevers make up things that they dont want and they are great, very cheap and consistent in their performance. ! ( performance, its not a bloody vibrator Steve!) They are great for buffing the metal item. Well the ones from my mum are ok but not brill. So I did a wee bit of Intel and found some sort exact ones but the sponge is alot tougher and I've tend to get great results. The ones I have are all solid black in colour and have different shapes at each end !!!! Buddy if you look on my channel and goto the section entitled " about" my email address is there. If you can email me your address or other contacts on email I can talk to you and I'll send you a few. I don't want any cash, sweets or treats .... ha ha ha, etc. I set my channel up with the sole purpose of helping others. Seeing someone smile and be happy because I've managed to help and contribute to that smile or happiness is all the pay I need. I've just thought and remembered I have some different type of ear buds, whatever they are called ( I'm doing well this morning with all of the 100% detail of items and more ) lol. Anyway fondest regards my friend and PLEASE do get in touch. Its not putting me out or being a pain for me. Regards my Friend Steve (Motty). C/O..... MOTTYS MILITARY MODELS ( KZread)

Turned out well James. Looks like a decent model of the Cromwell... finally. Shame they got the roadwheels wrong, seems like a quality control thing. Hey, when applying those metallics on the tracks use artist silicone brushes. They'll work to apply it and buff as well. Or make your own... not a shameless plug for my latest KZread video at all... 😉🍻

I'm building Tamiyas new A34 comet just now I've really enjoyed it but could be better I've added a shed load of stuff to it new grab handles everywhere and footman loops on turret definitely had to scratch build a new sight vien from brass sheet n rod that was terrible unusable really it was so thick plastic! I'm using AKs late British real colours aswell on it the scc 15 looks amazing under a base coat of vallejo German black brown we use for chipping! I used heavy chipping fluids over the top of that first just incase the laqure was harder to chip but it's not it's just flies off soon as its activated so be careful there if trying it! It didn't look right with highlights I've mandaed to get a slightly noticeable faded green really faded down to the near base coat of scc15 so it still has its natural dark green! Just one of these builds that's only gonna pop through weathering not the actual painting this time I feel!

It seems weird to me that Airix molded the deck under the turret solid then had you glue the hull roof with turret ring over that. Seems like it would have been smarter and require fewer pieces to mold the hull roof and engine deck as one piece or at least two pieces. Great job on the model.

Love the scheme. Not the biggest fan of the dust weathering. It seems to sporadic. On dish type road wheels, the rotation of the wheels pushes mud to the rims and out. Usually there are wheels that look almost clean and others that are just loaded with dirt and mud. But that's just my opinion. It still looks great.

It's good to see some more allied armour that isn't ANOTHER Sherman, and at this point there's about 10 visa about something German for every one about anything else, I feel like certain allied tanks don't get enough time in the spotlight, especially the Brits and in particular the Matilda and the Churchill which was the most survivable tank of the war and could climb like nothing else so it could reach positions that other tanks just couldn't

Academy, hey? Well that explains a few things like inclusion of PE and poly caps, which Airfix have never done before. I always thought it odd when Airfix announced this, given they have never tooled 35th armour before. Now I know they still haven’t! I agree with you Airfix would not have stuffed up the rad wheels had they themselves tooled it. Another great video though. Your construction is always so tidy as is your paintwork. Have an excellent Xmas. Looking forward to seeing what next year brings from you

The results on your airfix Centaur is awesome as usual! I know these are difficult to use preshading and pist shading they just don't look right with a lighter green tone Ammos SSC 15 is horrible it's way to bright! And I mean almost ime green! When layed down yuk! Waste money so bought AK real colours it's perfect so happy now!

The airfix cromwell cad renderings are different to this. It's funny how this section has got the most interest. My guess Is they ordered a tooling from academy to sell as their property. I didnt say academy ever released one, but similarly das werk use takom or someone similar to manufactuer thier kits.

James , awesome work i love the camo and I also check references and i think that airfix is wrong , personally i like to use the Ak 3d gen acryl. but the original thiner for them... i don't now.... i found easier to use with Tam. Laquer thider, with no retarder, i also tried the MLT, but it seams that the self leveling properties thtat this have d'ont work so well, so i prefer using laquer thiner or the X20A thiner also from Tam. I actually working on my Bf-109 g6 from eduard in 1/48th and i'm following your videos of the bf 109, and im going to do the same skin :) , so thanks for that ! James thank you so much!!

It's not. 100% 1, the sprue ID letters match new academy ones 2, airfix have the correct cad renders for the 1/72, why wouldn't they use that instead of this one, with the incorrect wheels bolts? 3. the plastic is not as soft as proprietary airfix plastic, why would they use a different plastic for this and not everything else they make ? 4 the instructions don't have the telltale completed red section. Meaning even those aren't done in the regular airfix. I'd love to agree with you but everything. Literally everything points to it being an academy tooling and nothing towards it being airfix.

@@lpjmodels interesting. It’s a neat “what if” idea. It’s certainly possible a unit came across a stock of German paint and decided to use it, but Occam's razor would make me lean toward a British paint like BSC 61 Light Stone? Regardless, interesting idea. 😀
