    Keith, thanks a lot for supporting the channel as a member and for your feedback! I agree, the first officer loves his job and is very enthusiastic. It is always a pleasure flying with him. I also agree about the sound. It is better but not up to the standard which I would like to provide. This time, I had 2 different cockpit audio tracks available. They both provided way less background noise but some clpping here and there. I used the cleanest one. There will always be some amount of background noise in the recordings, but I am very sure that I will be able to produce clipping free audio again in the near future. Have a great day!

    Thank you so much for your support of the channel as a member! The members are very important and help to keep the channel with their financial contributions alive. I observed the same about the audio. The microphone of the FO may have been closer to his mouth than mine. Or he may have spoken louder. It looks to me that the recording volume in the audio recorder was set too high for the environment. This may finally caused the ugly clipping. Soon you will see the flight back to Düsseldorf. It also contains a little clipping, but shows some more progress. I will continue the adjustments and hope to provide a solution for a great audio quality sometime during the next weeks. Have a great day!

    Another great full flight video, and it's good that you're making progress with improving the sound. Could you briefly explain the procedure that the FO was performing when the engines were at idle? Was there some sort of MEL-related issue? Perhaps an inop engine bleed? I couldn't believe the enthusiasm and excitement of your colleague! He was almost climbing out of the cockpit at one point!

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    Thanks for watching and for sharing your great feedback! The cockpit audio is still a challenge and I continue working on it. I hope to be able to introduce an even better sound in the future. A bleed valve had been closed by maintenance before the flight. The FO performed the associated MEL procedure.

    Quite interesting fact that London monitors the CDA´s! That might bring the descen calculations more on focus I think? You can´t just push/pull DES oder OP DES ... On the ecologically side CDA are an advantage, but maybe on the safety side you might be rather on the slow and low side on the approach as we saw on the latest visual approach, there´s one" bogey", rather unexpected and in a second you´re fast an high. I´m NOT a real world pilot and this is not a negatively critical comment, just my own considerations as a flightsim enthusiast ;-) May I ask your experiences as a quite experienced pilot? Thanks for all your efforts again und viele Grüße! Schönen Sonntag, have a nice sunday! PS: the visual approach is stuning and the coms with ATC lovely! :-) PS2: the debrief was passionately, absolutely GREAT :-) Over and Out now 😀

    Thanks for watching and your good and detailed feedback! My original thinking was always that if you get a descent clearance at large airports with lots of traffic, like LHR, that they want you to get to the altitude asap. Unfortunately, my thinking is wrong in regard to LHR. They tell you a mileage remaining to fly. From this point, they prefer that you do not level off and continue to a landing in a continuous descent. You are usually flying an ATC provided heading at that time. So you have to use your brain to do a calculation of the required descent rate for the continuous descent approach. You can fly approaches in different ways, especially if there is no restricting traffic. Here on the channel, you can see very different variations. Safety would only be an issue if your sinkrate or speed would be too high or if you are established in landing configuration too late or not tracking along the centerline Ich wünsche auch noch einen schönen Restsonntag und eine schöne Woche!

    Thanks a lot for your support of the channel as a member and for sharing your good feedback! Collisions between birds and airplanes are happening on a very regular basis. The airports are using lots of measures to get rid of the birds. But this helps only to reduce the amount of birds in the vicinity of the airport. Most of the time, collisions with birds result in a dead bird and just some blood spots or so at the airplane. Once in a while, the birds provide dents to the airplane or damage to the engine.

I noticed that arrow of the Birmingham ADF BHX was very much moving. Is that normal for an ADF? I also noticed that every now and then the id BHX went away. This makes me believe that the system automatically gets the id of the ndb, either by decoding the morse code, or they have added some kind of digital id in the ndb signal. My guess it decodes the morse code. All beacons have the same morse code speed and pitch. But maybe you can confirm that!

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    Ай бұрын

    Thank you very much for your support of the channel as a member! This is very important and helps keeping the channel alive! EXP climb reduces the speed to green dot speed, as the result the climb rate increases. When we depart from Düsseldorf, direct to routings depend on a certain minimum altitude. So the EXP climb may give us earlier a direct to routing. I use the bird only to verify the correct track. If the bird is inline with the runway track and I see the runway ahead or the localizer is centered, I am doing good. For the 3 degree path, I use the formula groundspeed x 5 or groundspeed divided by 2 to find out the correct descent rate. For example: A groundspeed of 130 knots needs a descent rate of about 650 feet per minute.

I just have one question: During takeoffs, when the initial "takeoff" or "liftoff" from the ground happens, pilots always say "rotate". What does that mean? Why is it called rotate when actually the "stick" is being pulled back? Thank you in advance, have a nice day/evening!

  • @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    @ApproachandDepartureVideos

    Ай бұрын

    Thank you so much for your kind feedback! Before the flight, we calculate the relevant speeds for the takeoff. The pilot monitoring calls them out. If we reach V1, he or she calls V1 and if we reach Vr, which is the speed at which the pilot flying shall pull the stick back to get the plane in the air, he or she calls rotate. We could also call Vr instead. But Airbus decided that they want us to call it rotate, which makes sense to me.

My guess is running less than all ENG means that the remaining are running higher, esp. on uphill taxi. What do you think?

When we do single engine taxi, under certain circumstances, the thrust on the remaining engine has to be a little higher than if we would taxi with 2 engines. • @noahm9976

    @noahm9976

    Ай бұрын

    No but I think I know what you mean. In OP CLB the aircraft doesn’t care about the vertical profile it just climbs. The thrust setting will be in THR CLB, meaning the engines stay at a constant rate and then the speed is controlled by the pitch. So OP climb will just climb and not care about any of the height restrictions. On the ground, the crew would have set a climb speed (base on weight and the cost index). So the plane will automatically target this speed, then pitch to maintain this speed and climb. Now because we are climbing, the slower the speed the faster the climb. In EXP CLB, the speed target, instead of being that set on the ground, the speed target is “GREEN DOT” speed which is like the best glide speed for clean config. So if you press EXP CLB the speed target jumps down to green dot, which is quite low and close the minimum speed, and therefore because the speed is so slow, the plane pitches up because its in THR CLB, to allow for this speed to be maintained and this results in the fastest climb possible. However what you are talking about i think, is that at any point in OP CLB, the crew can set a selected speed and the aircraft will pitch for this speed, this may be to climb slower, or to climb faster given situation. So in theory, the pilots could selected green dot speed with OP CLB and then climb as fast as possible. But the problem with that is that green dot speed will change on the IAS the higher you climb, and the stall IAS speed becomes higher so you would have to keep monitoring it and changing it, so with EXP CLB it will automatically change it. So OP CLB doesn’t target the fastest climb speed, it just targets the speed selected either by the pilots or the computer and given this speed could be anything the rate of climb will change. I think that explains it

    It had already been explained. Open climb is climbing with fixed climb thrust with the optimum climb speed which is calculated by the FMGC on the basis of cost index, weight ….. The climbrate is not preset. It is variable. EXP climb changes the speed to green dot speed. This generates a higher climb rate at a lower indicated airspeed compared to Open climb.

    Thanks for sharing your observations. I agree that the audio is not really good in this video. The clipping was the result of a too high signal level at the professional audio recorder. It is difficult to remove clipping completely in postproduction. This and the background audio noise will get better in the future because I learn from this and will change the future setup. It may take some time of changing adjustments, but I am sure that you will see better results in the next weeks or so. The cockpit audio will always have some noises and will be not that crisp and clear as the audio from a radio studio. Allerdings brauchen die Triebwerke sowohl eine gewisse Aufwärmzeit vor dem Start als auch eine gewisse Abkühlzeit nach der Landung. Oft rollen wir nicht länger als diese Zeiten. Das Schleppen bis zur Bahn oder von der Bahn macht in diesem Zusammenhang keinen Sinn. Wenn die Triebwerke sich aufwärmen oder abkühlen, drehen sie ja und man kann in dieser Zeit gut im Leerlauf von oder zur Parkposition rollen.

    @@ApproachandDepartureVideos och diese modernen triebwerke sind im "leerlauf" wenn maschienen rollen , kenn nur g40/g60 spiralturbolader da is fast "kein lüftchen" zu spüren wenn kolbenmotoren im leerlauf sind ...erstaunlich da flugzeuge sehr schwer sind und windanfälliger ebenso wenn ihr piloten mit nur einer turbine rollt

    Why the cruise speed is so low?

    The cruise speed depends on the cost index. After we enter the cost index into the flight management and guidance system, it calculates the optimum level and the optimum speed or mach number for the level. This depends on weight, wind, temperature …. When we have to fly lower than the optimum altitude, it also calculates an optimum speed or mach number. This is usually much lower than the mach number at optimum altitude. If we would fly faster, it would increase the fuel flow significantly.
