I have flown over Sedona, Troon North, Scottsdale, Gilbert AZ Mesa into PHX on a my private plane with the Airshow Map. It was amazing it showed small towns such as Cambelback East Village and sights such as Phoenix Sonoran Desert Reserve on the final approach. I have setup my Airshow Map to show the small towns.

Are those displays on the Airbuses little CRT monitors? Cause you can see them refreshing on the camera. Probably only on the A320s made in the 90s and 80s.

Awesome video! My question is at what point after touching down do you step on the brakes? Surely the speed brakes would slow you down at first and then you brake, right? And how long does atc give you to land once you are cleared? Because this is a busy airport and many planes have to land one would think you have x amount of time to land before they clear another flight, right? Or if they clear multiple flights how do you know who goes first?
@AirbusPilotMark
9 жыл бұрын
chrisz71 Pretty much, just depends on how fast you need to stop. If it's a long runway and no one is behind you, I barely use the brakes. On a short runway like Orange County KSNA, we set an automatic braking system to "Medium", which is fairly aggressive and a second or so after touchdown it engages the brakes. ATC doesn't give a "time to land", they already know your speed and ensure the proper spacing (most of the time anyway) with other aircraft that are in front of you, and also if they clear an aircraft to takeoff before you land on that runway. It's a pretty well timed "dance".

Awesome! My ATC training is coming in handy! Please keep up the videos! There was 2 channels last year, one was of a 777 pilot and another an A380 pilot and they both removed their channel due to hate. So if you start getting hate, please just either disable comments or make it so you can approve or disapprove comments. I love seeing the flights from the pilots perspective and not the ATC perspective, and especially from my home airport (I live in PHX)

how do you know when to extend the landing gear?
@bro9479
3 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for large airliners, but on the smaller planes I fly we extend the gear during our landing checklist 1 mile before the final approach fix for instrument approaches or as we are entering the VFR pattern at the airport when we aren't VFR. Airliners usually do longer approaches so they probably put the gear down a few miles before they descend on final approach.

Often depends on the airline. Around 2500 - 2000 ft above ground is common to drop your gear with the airliners.

This is fantastic , however, non essential activity to the safety of the flight below 10,000 feet comes to play here. I’m pretty sure AA would frown heavily on this. I certainly don’t want you to get in trouble or even a violation. Just food for thought.
@AirbusPilotMark
5 жыл бұрын
This video was filmed over 7 years ago, prior to the merger with AA. Other than brief idle chit chat at the beginning, there was no violation of company policy at the prior airline. Since then, there have been additions to company policy that discourages filming, and that’s why I’ve stopped posting videos. It’s unfortunate.
