My God Jerry...how much do you spend yearly flying the 421.... I guess safety has it's price ! I appreciate all you do for us with these videos and for the dogs. Thanks for posting. Even though I'm not an IFR rated pilot, I love watching the proceedures and the fact that you are so regimented in your execution of same. If more pilots waatched your videos we'd have many fewer planes falling out of the sky. Thanks again, Ron

I remember my first encounter with ice shortly after I got my instrument rating while flying from Boston to Utica, NY. I picked up about 1/2" of rime ice in my Cherokee 180 during the ILS approach to minimums. Needless to say, my pucker factor reading was high but I did make it. I steer clear of icing conditions but the sight of a little rime ice doesn't scare me like my first encounter did. I've learned over the years that if you don't experience a little fear on occasion while flying, you aren't paying attention. Thank you Jerry for the wonderful videos. Watching and listening to you fly and using my X-Plane flight simulator helps keep me sharp for my next instrument flight.

Can pick up a lot of ice under the fuselage and around the elevators, staying on autopilot the entire descent and approach. I see a lot of recommendations to go manual and check controls periodically, if there’s ice. Careful!

was hoping for 9 KIAS head wind as forecast and above the weather which neither happened, other than the parasitic drag the Ice was not an issue on this FIKI plane and I know I had warmer air above the MVA if I had to go lower

At 19:40 you point to your glass and mention you can tell you’ve got parasitic drag. What on your glass gives you the indication? You mentioned your TAS had dropped but were you just referencing what it was prior to the ice forming? Was that the indication? Thanks Aaron ps I think I answered my own question!

I noticed at the 12:00 minute mark you were at 14,000 and only had a 21Kt headwind and you were below the ice. Why not stay there below the ice? Seems to me it would’ve saved you time And more importantly been safer out of the ice. I iced up my 340 at FL 180 last spring and had what I think was a tail stall with a severe pitch up attitude! I don’t mess with ICE! Stay safe.

You sort of marble-mouth it now and then. “Taxi IFR, port porth Yankee?!” WTF? I listened at least 15 times, never understood that part. It took three times to figure out “all important checklist,” assuming that is what you said. And checklists are important, it’s not good to throw sarcastic shade on them. Might want to listen to some of them PIREPs, since they’re sharing!

talking to Ground, I'll go slow for you 1, taxi IFR means I ready to taxi and I am flying out IFR not VFR 2. I am at the Port a Ports ( those are an area of Hangars in Oakland) 3. Yankee means I have ATIS information "Y" 4. The Checklist is "All Important" and should be emphasized 5. I listen to Pireps all the time THANKS FOR RIDING ALONG !
