How to Become an Air Traffic Controller
Who is an Air Traffic controller?
An Air Traffic controller is responsible for directing aircrafts on the ground and through controlled airspace and provides advisory services to aircraft in non-controlled airspace. The primary responsibility of an Air Traffic controller is to communicate with pilots and ground staff to manage a flight and ensure the safety of a flight on ground such as clearance delivery before an aircraft taxi and in air as well. Pilots get the ground position and get the clearance from ATC to land or take off.
The inter communication is carried out from the controlling tower, where they can see the aircrafts and ground space. Radar and radio signals are used to communicate with the pilots and the tower back and forth. An air traffic controller could even be responsible for a crash based on the legal theory of negligence.
• What are the qualifications required to become an Air Traffic controller in Sri Lanka?
To work as an Air Traffic controller, you require a bachelor’s degree of 3 years in a Science subject (B.Sc.) with Physics and Mathematics from a recognized university and is expected to pass the ATC exam. They are highly trained to deal with stressful situations such as high levels of traffic, bad weather, or emergencies.
• Every country has their own air traffic controlling tower to manage and guide aircrafts travelling through their airspace and assist in managing the close by air spaces as well.

Wow that was something different experience we got,expect a bit long vidio.
I applied for these vacancies recently in past months (they had advertised on the site) .at least they didn’t even reply on they got my application or not… they boast as they have great technologies..still we have to send applications attaching hard copies , through register post… and still nothing happened at least to know whether they have already selected and closed the process or not. I love this job even though it is stressful. However feeling so pathetic about the recruitment processes of Sri Lankan Airlines.

Please pay more attention when you're sending your application next time. The ATC is not under Sri Lankan Airlines. That's something you must've known if you were so in love with this profession.

Also as a Sri Lankan, is there anything that is perfect or normal that you can mention? Required qualification standards are even lowered to recruit favourites...

අවුරුදු ගාණකට ඉස්සර මගෙත් dream එකක්.මටත් ඔය දේම උනා.ඉසේ කෙස් ගානට exam ලිව්වා degree එක ගත්තට පස්සෙ .දැන් කිසිම ආසවක් නැති පොඩි පඩියක් ලැබෙම රස්සාවක් කරනවා.පොඩි කාලෙ කට්ට කාලා ඉගෙන ගත්තේ මේකටද කියලා හිතෙනවා .කරුමක්කාර රටක් .මේකට airline connection එකක් නෑ.airport එකේ vacancy එකක් මේක.physical science degree තමයි ඒ කාලේ ඉල්ලුවේ.

Isn't that the case with every thing in Sri Lanka?? Maybe you need to get a push from an insider. I am really surprised to hear that there is an age limit for this position. I live in USA and here age discrimination is a big no no. There is a federal law that prohibits age discrimination.
