Air Fryer French Fries - Food Wishes

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Is it possible to make French fries in an air fryer that are just as crispy and amazing as the ones done in a traditional deep fryer? Of course not. However, this very simple procedure will get you pretty close, with less fat, and much less of a mess.

Depends, some things are more difficult & some easier. There is always a smell associated with frying & an air fryer doesn't seem to create much. Sometimes it's just more convenient. I live alone & tossing something in the air fryer is often less hassle than filling a pot of oil, heating it, pouring it off then properly disposing it. Some things like frozen wings take a long time (even in a convection oven) to get crispy yet like 12min in an air fryer. I also found I can get a bunch of wings, slow cook them in seasoned broth, dry then freeze & they reheat tender inside with a super crispy skin. I also reduce the broth & freeze in cubes to add in with hot sauce for the wings. Like all kitchen gadgets they aren't necessary & somewhat situational.

Pro tip for air fryer, do "grilled" cheese sandwiches in them. Do it like a normal grilled cheese (preheat airfryer for 2-3 mins to 400). Pam or butter on the bread, 3-4 mins each side. One of my fav ways to make a "grilled" cheese now. After I flip it, I sprinkle a little cheese on top so it can scorch mmmmmm. I made one tonight with Kentucky ham, cheese and honey mustard dressing. SOOOO GOOD

I think the biggest advantage of air fryer chips is that you can be very choosy about the oil. For example, nobody (except the very rich possible) would consider using ghee for deep frying, but with only needing a tablespoon of oil, I always use ghee (and home made ghee at that) for my air fryer fries.

Omg, every day I annoy my hubs with quotes and the intro to your videos. Especially if I learned something and he asks how, the windows shake with "CHEF John at FooooodWishes dot Com" 😂 Anyways, he just got me an air fryer last week, and I was looking for fry recipes to test the waters. I was like, "No way Chef John has done air fryer stuff." How did you knooow 😭😭😭

I’ll have to try this. We have used the air fryer on frozen fries and it does a great job. Our favorite air fry potato is baby Dutch gold potatoes, quartered, tossed with a fairly stingy amount of olive oil, some crushed garlic, a bit of seasoned salt (Country Bob’s), and some grated Parmesan. 375F for about 15 minutes, tossing half way.

I had a bag of potatoes that nobody wanted to bother with. I just received my Breville 16 cup food processor today (I know, 16 cups - I thought I lost my mind, but it's actually not that big). I had peeled the potatoes, and picked up a knife to cut them, when I remembered that the food processor had a French fry blade. It cut like 9 potatoes in less than a minute. I blinked, and two potatoes at a time were cut. I don't have an air fryer (it's our next purchase that I've been bugging my husband about), so I laid them out on 2 large pizza screens. I baked them on convection. They turned out alright, but some of them stuck. Now I'm even more determined to get an air fryer, and I'm showing this video to my husband tomorrow. However, aren't the air fryers with the spinning basket easier for fries? (I'm thinking butternut squash fries, Chef John, in case you're reading this).

I'm on my second air fryer. Now using a Chefman Deluxe model which has a front loading door and stainless steel interior trays and a rotisserie basket for french fries. I make mine similarly, but I add a step that reduces cooking time by ten minutes. What I do after slicing and washing and drying the fries is put them on a microwave safe plate with a few squirts of Mazola from a food safe spray bottle and nuke them on high for 4 to 5 minutes. Then I load them into the air fryer at 400 F and they're done in 15 minutes. After 5 minutes I toss in a burger on the lowest rack and cook for the remaining 10 minutes. In the final 3 minutes I toast the buns in there as well. A complete fast food meal hot and ready for a fraction of the price. :) The air fryer is the greatest cooking tool to hit the kitchen since the microwave IMHO.

The restaurant I managed, was written up in "Rolling Stone" gourmet collum as "the best French Fries in the Nation" We used 200 to 300 pounds of Idaho potatoes per day. I was known as the "Fresh Prince of Fries" back then.

We got one and I immediately started making fries with it. Making fries in deep fryer at home is a mess. You have to deal with all that oil and unless you have a truck that can run on that oil, what do you do with it? Now I can make a serving of fries anytime I want. I've gained a few pounds, but WTH YOLO and fries are part of living. BTW, I mix half ketsup and half homemade sriracha sauce for the dip.
