    I’ve followed Tal’s career ever since she first played with Jeff Beck. No one can question her abilities on bass, she is incredibly gifted. But I’m not sure she’ll find success as a singer. I wish her all the best, she’s worked extremely hard to be where she is.

    @@stevenlewis9047 She is more than getting by. She is doing great. But most people who listen to pop music can't tell a good singer from a bad one or a good musician. And conversely, most people who follow pop music do not like jazz and would not understand what Tal's roots are.

    Agreed, and this would be better up an octave if she could do that. She sings on key, but not much else there yet in the way of power, control, inflection, texture or dynamics. Maybe she should practice singing without playing for a while, and then come back to it. BTW, I have somewhat the same criticism of Eric Johnson.

  • @syn707

    @syn707

    @@GCKelloch Eric does sing in key but he could use some extensive voice coaching…perhaps intense breathing exercises..I don’t know. Tal, here, somewhat sings in key…there were plenty of off notes, especial on a cascade of several notes. Could it be she couldn’t hear herself? I’d like to give her the benefit of doubt, but this performance will not appeal to her jazz base…..they naturally would expect more.

    I feel that she is a very pretty and a charming young lady. I have never been too excited about her bass playing. She may have been a child prodigy, but now she is an adult, she should be assessed as an adult. Playing with the world's top talent, she does not stand out. Much like Johnny Lang who was a child prodigy. She will always be capable of being a component in a touring band, but she will never shine much as a solo artist. I am not going to run out and purchase her material.
