AIM Ideas Lab Youth Panel: Monterey, Marin, & San Luis Obispo Counties, 2023 AIM Symposium

The AIM Ideas Lab youth research team shared and compared data from their own peer-to-peer youth mental health surveys of over 1,200 teens in Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Alameda, and Marin counties. Sixty-one youth volunteered more than 1,000 hours of community service to develop and distribute the surveys, which are made up of 17 quantitative (frequencies, percentages) and two qualitative (open-ended response) questions. They shared solid, researched-based recommendations from the youth about what we can and should do to address the crisis that is plaguing their generation.

The struggle parents have today is how to show their kids they support them. Just by saying the words, is not enough. Teens have a hard time seeing parents actions with the word of support. I feel parents should not be afraid to ask for help on how to help their children. A couple years ago, I was going to promote AIM and what they stand for, unfortunately my wife & I had to start helping our youngest. She is a sophomore now and still has her struggles. I am so proud of AIM and kids that support what AIM stands for. I want to do more. This has become my number 1 goal is to help kids with mental health. I've been a fireman for the last 33 yrs and still on the job. Ive seen the horrific end to a parents worse nightmare. The more kids we get involved and comfortable talking about the struggles, we can help end the stigmatism! KEEP up the great work AIM!
