An amazing game even if flawed at some points (some bugs, some balance, but still is very solid in overall). An great genre about which the world simply doesn't knows, that is vs shmup, it is tons of fun and skill, very similar to fighting games. Maybe one day someone will make a better, modern implementation of such, and it will blow up or at least gather an active community. I don't have much faith in ZUN and PoFV 2 but maybe, maybe... I wish to do it myself inside my own fantasy universe, but how many years it will take huh... Will be sad if someone will make it a lot sooner that me, it will blow up with many clones and then people will be "booo Ctrekoz just rides up on the hype", when in reality I'm the OG huh. Myself I have 1500+ pvp matches in PoFV, also wrote PoFV Fundamentals\PvP guide, participated in many tournaments, though I'm not among the very top players, just very high skill one, there is plenty of more crazy guys, but it's mainly because they just dodge better. As to AI then yeah, vs mode Lunatic one is a total bs unless you abuse Aya or Medicine, but it's a good practice of survival for you, even if bot makes unreasonable decisions about his meter use. You can get SpoilerAl and force the bot to use only l2 spells though, or make the bot\yourself invincible for a better practice for example. I can't redact that comment anymore so sorry for some grammar mistakes (I can see "an great genre" mistake), and I also want to add that "they just dodge better" is a big deal, since it's 50% of success in PoFV and has limitless ceiling (AI proves it). Beside fun and skill there is obviously enough of random going on too, but it's not that bad as it may appear.

Huh so PoFV 2 is actually here. Won't be saying I'm really surprised, it's a long overdue. I won't be raising my hopes too high however, since, you know, it's one of _these_ latest games. Artstyle sucks, screen readability is in big question, quality of music as well, but at least I'm glad to see Nazrin playable. If Shou will be there then extreme pog, pretty likely if Nazrin is already in and we are going by "beast" theme. Well, it can possibly turn out into an actually good game, will see, maybe there will be mods to replace char art with something better too lol. At the very least it can make PoFV more popular due to "TH19 sucks but hey there is TH9, wanna try it?" And I hope there won't be too much chars from the latest games about who I don't care. Maybe they will be fun enough so I will start to care. Anyway, will see. Also cards lol, will see how it goes. Bombs? Like In PoDD? I haven't played it. Also 3 fixed lives, exactly what I've wanted instead of PoFV randomeness.

@@Ctrekoz there are 19 playables and i think at least the 3 leaders of the animal realms are coming back as playable if their miniions are going crazy, this then includes the 4th leader, the snake leader. I think most of the characters are beasts yeah and some believe the Zodiac is possibly or coincidentally part of the themes. Shou being there is possible and we can tell why nazrin or shou would beat each other up storywise is to make sure the other goes back home much like tewi and reisen (We got seiran as our rabbit rep this time surprisingly) But yeah the roster so far have been unlikely characters so that itself is actually really interesting. Part of me wants Keine to be here cuz maybe she wants to "Eat or revive the history of the lands" or something or maybe Orin goes to the surface to round up the souls being scattered crazy The ability cards return to spice up the gameplay styles of each 19 playables so certain combinations might make one character feel better for you when using that ability card, giving plenty of replayability and combinations. And yeah so far it looks like aside from shot types for the girls, their bomb sizes and some sort of field to slow down bullets and absorb it's power of sorts differs between the girls so it really is giving them all more diversity

@@Imonyaki Yeah I've played it for a bit so far and have pretty positive opinion, though there's certain bad decisions to critique for like separate buttons for focus and charge, not being to able to shoot while charging, very slow charge which is universal to everyone, no netplay, etc. . Though I like the idea of having two bosses on the screen at the same time, music is pretty good, art is okay, other stuff. Well it'a s mixed bag really, but I'm pretty positive and looking forward for the full release. I just fear that the game will have a lot of potential which won't be properly realised\patched and it will end up half-baked or dragged down by certain bad decisions like control scheme or else. I'm out there still actively engaging with PoFV (and now UDoALG) communities so will see. Can only hope ZUN will either deliver outright or will actually take time and effort to fix the game instead of abandoning it.

If there’s the tiniest crack between two bullets, no matter what character they are, the AI WILL slip through Unless they encounter Aya’s EX attack. In which case, they become a deer in headlights lol

I believe the game doesn't actually check the line in between movement, meaning that hitboxes literally teleport from one frame to the next, which is why you see this kind of "impossible" dodge sometimes mostly with fast movement (happens a lot in StB games for example) and/or fast bullets

This is why Cirno is so stupid. If she wasn't, she would easily be the most OP being in all of Gensokyo.

@@Sylpphire interestingly I found that if you play as Aya she actually takes damage earlier like I was able to win on the first life with Aya. She summons large undodgable hitboxes. But only Aya.

I've watched a bot vs bot fight between Cirno and Tewi, and it lasted more than 24 minutes, before Tewi died and Cirno still had all her life. Never again lol

So nostalgic, If I recall correctly, the bot is weak against non-straight trajectory, e.g. Reimu yin-yang orb that bouncing around, instead of moving straight

It's more about big hitboxes that don't leave enough room to move by the time the AI decides it needs to dodge - most hits on the AI happen by some combo of an L2/L3/EX attack slowly squeezing it into a trap and then something else blocking off the gaps it would go for at the last moment, but very large hitboxes like Reimu's balls or Aya's EX bullets can do it on their own (and Aya's EX is also extremely fast so pretty much a guaranteed hit when it aims straight at the AI, the characters just aren't fast enough to get out of the way in the reaction window the AI relies on)

bots in shooters are bad by design, otherwise they would be gods. they don't call it aimbotting for nothing.

Finally a good and original 2hu meme. Also if this clip scares you from playing the game, just turn off your brain and pick Aya for Story mode

its canonly stated that Cirno's powers are in a unnatural state. So seeing this just proves ZUN's point

Good to know nothing has change since PoDD. Seriously, look up Lunatic Yumemi. She casually sits on a laser and dodges bullets that no human would be able to dodge in real time barring miraculous luck.

The AI actually screws up and gets hit somewhat often, but in match mode (and in the first Shiki round in lunatic story mode) it will always bomb if it has enough gauge, and the gauge goes back up really fast - so the problem is getting *consecutive* hits often enough to do damage, and you need to pull it off at least three times in a round. But once you realize that, it's a lot less intimidating, and then it's mostly about trying to save up your own gauge to unleash a barrage right after the AI bombs and is defenseless against the next hit for a few moments.

PoFV AI is build like advanced Mugen AI where it just does the most optimal play possible when it decides to do so.

I recently got touhou 9, expecting "hey, this shouldn't be to hard as long as I keep it on medium". Safe to say, after i watched two bot cirno's duke it out second to getting my ass kicked (on medium too btw), i gave up.
