As someone who hates Kingdom Hearts, I see it as an absolute win.

That fact that a machine can make these detailed clips so fast kinda cool but ultimately terrifying. AI is no substitute for creative talent from an actual human and there needs to be some form of law or regulations in place to insure they can never fully replace them.

I think instead of putting the computers to steal the job from animators, they should focus on more important stuff. I wish AI animation would have some sort of required watermark to make it distinguishable. Also, controversial opinion. But I don't mind much AI animation as long as it's not used for replacing. I see AI used for laughs and giggles or for assistence like in Neuro-sama's case which is way better than having it used by big companies or having it as a replacement like in the Kwebbelcop situation

The way I understand it from some roboticists, for that general maid/dishwasher/stockist kinda robot, they need to understand instructions, with different languages, and people with different sentence structure, in written and verbal format, and recognise different letters from different fonts and identify things. No stain and leftovers on the dish and no wine spill on a shirt are the same pattern. That means they need object and verbal recognition and interpretation, aka, the elements that make up creativity, like knowing an acrylic painting from oil from pastel. It's something of a veil/glass wall that needs to be pierced before we can get to an all-in-one mechanical indentured servant, so right now is merely the growing pains of getting there. Kinda like how someone a few millennia figured out attaching a stone head to a stick and help collect wood and clear branches faster, and someone else figured out you can crack skulls bettter.

As someone who wishes to go into animation, this is terrifying to me. As of me typing this comment, I was working on a mini animation as an assignment, and now I question why companies are so hellbent on replacing people? To be clear, I know it’s mostly for cost efficiencies, but art’s entire existence was to give it a soul, and even if takes a long time to get it on paper, the end result from that amount time spent on it exudes passion and appreciation, whereas things like OpenAI mostly exude laziness. I’m only willing to use sources like that as fun experimentations and novelties, maybe provide ideas to reference and enhance, not outright do the work for me. It may be convenient, but it becomes obvious where corners get cut.

If indie animation is ACTUAL animation, it will have increased value, at least to consumers, since they can be like "woah! A human did this". It will simply be more impressive, even if the AI can do basically the same with in a matter of seconds. The same thing happened with painting when photography became widespread. Photos could capture images in a matter of seconds, but people are ALWAYS impressed when someone creates a photo-realistic painting, even if they could have simply taken a picture.

I know the counter arguement to having AI is that it makes “work easier”, but all I hear is “it saves company money”. Every job I’ve had where they make my job “easier” has led to me getting my hours cut. They’re going to implement AI to different jobs like animation and cut back the hours and paychecks of people because they’re not doing as much work or have less work to do.

Companies know they need customers and that requires someone paying people. Unfortunately, none of them want to be the company that still hires and pays people because that means less money for shareholders.

I think that AI will also result in the creation of new jobs, just like it's made other jobs obsolete. There's been plenty of examples of automation destroying jobs in the past, and it's never resulted in there not being enough jobs to go around, at least not in the long term

@@bbrainstormer2036 The factories needed a lot of workers producing cheaper products faster than traditional craftsmen. The Industrial Revolution didn't reduce the need for workers. It simply reduced the need for specialized craftsmen with specialized training doing all the work themselves. Ai is different in that one of its selling points is its ability to reduce or even eliminate the need for workers.

Lest hope that small companies don't kill themselves with this

I liked the Kirby episode where they did an all animation episode and the behind the scenes stuff. The Kirby anime is underrated.

You know what. I grew up to see 2D animation be pushed aside by CGI. I stubbornly refuse to let go of the art of 2D. I learned how to draw digitally and I still have my sketchbook to doodle traditionally. So while AI might be a threat to my dreams of making a living creating art... It still won't stop me. *Sharpens pencil and stabs the nearest screen with an AI-generated video* Bring it on, future.

I can't deny, this does actually look like a massive improvement over _just the prior year,_ when it looked like it was generating a couple of augmented frames, and then stitching them together with interpolation (resulting in cars morphing into cloud balls, or a slice of pizza turning into a woman wearing a jacket); 1:04 This right here, 100% absolutely looked as if someone modded Pigma Dengar into Minecraft, even if his snout morphs into becoming cow-like as his ear passes the threshold at the lower-left

I'm actually gonna make an episode about flipaclip animated characters stopping AI by showing everyone the importance of writers.

Something 2d animators may have to do is resort back to cel shaded painting tactics: i see that in the AI animation, theres concepts that look simulatable in a newer software (i.e. distortion of a main body using a puppet tool). Its a high risk low reward gambit, but so far its the best animators have in holding their ground

Guys, we have to stand up against this, even if it becomes the norm, we have to boycott ai, and support human animation and storytelling. We have the power to change this

I love how his videos always end off with a very settling sentence like "I hope you like crippling anxiety!" With a 5 second pause afterwards then the logo and the music rolls in...

Seeing that clip of Kirby right back at ya does give me a very small glimmer of hope. They were talking about cgi, which didn’t replace artists or actors at all. This time might be different, but there’s still a possibility we’ll live through this…

It’s inevitable, I’m afraid. The question isn’t whether AI will replace human artists, but when. If the past is any indication, once a technology gets going, then things progress at an exponential rate, and it’s already started happening. Artists should be thinking about how to best deal with this, rather than denying it’s coming…

To me, generative ai should just be used as an advanced form of Art Drafts. The ai makes what the artist wants, then the artist makes a better version of what the ai made. Cohabitation.

Easier, we used to think due to our intuition of what jobs are hard it would work the same for automation. But turns out human movement is actually not as simple as we thought as you also need a near human level physical robot body, while generating visuals can be done with out having to have any were near human level ai.

And in 10/20 years, things will be much diffrent, gen z and gen alpha will look at things at get nostalgic memories like gen millenials did. Art is made by a person, AI “art” is not. If I took a machine and made it sculpt something designed on pc, it’s not considered art because a machine did it. If I uploaded an image to a computer and made a robot draw it on an irl piece of paper, it’s not art. Art is something that is made by creativity, AI art is just a bunch of images mashed together into one. I’m an enthusiast into AI, but I’m also an artist (and I have been before AI “art” showed up) so it disgusts me when someone calls an AI generated image “art” because I know how much effort it actually takes to make real art and how little effort it takes to make AI images

A.I, however, does not have the desire to convey or to express something. On top of that, A.I is not authentic, because it steels from other possibly related sources to create something new. But whereas a Human does so in order to inspires itself, here A.I just blends all those elements together, try to cover up the illusion, and voilà, an apparently completely original work. That is not Art, this is Unauthentic, and Thiefery

That's exactly where I stand with a.i as well. I use A.I for inspiration and ideas as a art tool for the most part at times. To help give me fun prompts to work with losely for my abstract pieces once in awhile, or help with world-building projects now n then. if a.i is used like this i don't see much of a issue. but using nothing but ai 100% of the time I'm 50/50 with still. Sure its only a tool but there still needs to be solid ground laws on how to properly use it as such for helping.

It IS evolving in the lab stuff part. It's just gradual and silent.

I honestly think people will us A.I. as more of a better reference to explain to artists or investors easily as to what you wish to accomplish and then have actual artist finish the final product. The other thing is too is you could be an artist who uses your own work for an a.i. algorithm to see how something would look in your style to see what could work and what doesn't. This whole thing is new and moving way to fast to catch up but give it time and people will adapt like they did with computers.

I feel like it's okay to use AI to speed up the animation process, but just don't use AI to write the actual stories and scripts, THAT'S when you're taking it too far.

I see more heart and love in a Smiling Friends epsilon that AI art

The milkman may have been replaced by supermarkets, but the milkman's skills are transferable to other jobs. Likewise, elevator operator's jobs may have disappeared, but they didn't become homeless. They just moved on to other work. AI-based technology doesn't have to be a problem, only if we use it intelligently.

The Idea of AI is terrifying... It's literally scares me... Ah, this isn't true at all. AI is quite capable of making something with a story, dedication, emotion, heart, soul, and all of the things that you believe are unique to human creativity. Furthermore, AI is capable of iterating upon those ideas and incorporating additional elements into its creations in a way that humans cannot. You may perceive AI as being soulless, but in reality it is simply another tool for creative expression. Don’t fear the AI, embrace it as a new canvas for the creative spirit.

I think that all the videos should have some sort of watermark, so if the creator attempts to remove it, then it would be really obvious. I personally only see it useful for harmless stock footage.

As both an animation fan and student, this actually breaks my heart. 😭😭 I couldn’t help but cry watching this, if this becomes mainstream then creativity is dead until someone can put a full stop to it. I think the only good reasonable use for this is to save time, effort and money in creating draft animations as that would make pre-production a bit less difficult, but it should never be used for replacing the creative process, meaning make AI do storyboarding, writing, character design and other important steps in creating animation, and it should also never be used for the final full result. For those who don’t understand what’s the problem with AI being used like this, that means more jobs at stake, more people unemployed with skills and real genuine talent and creativity going to waste, and in a world where people are already struggling to survive and make ends meat, this would make things ten times worse. Remember this isn’t just threatening the creative industry, but others are possibly in danger as well, such as in retail, healthcare, and finance. This is why governments are concerned and trying to regulate it before it’s far too late.

2:24 The stock footage point is probably the most valid one I've heard for this. I doubt AI will replace animators in the industry, seeing as how defamatory it can be to link a product to AI. Especially something artistic. Stock footage on the other hand? Nobodu pays attention to that, and it's much easier to get away with it. It's also harder to emulate something new as oppose to something old. That's why a realistic animation is probably easier than some 2D stuff, because of styles and perspectives and a whole ton of stuff I don't know because I'm no animator.

As An artist that needs to quickly pump out music videos to get more exposure this is both gonna be a blessing and a curse

AI animation needs to be banned, and other AI stuff should be severely restricted. Before the AI boom I used AI stuff just for fun, and to laugh at whatever weird stuff the machine outputs. Now, people want to shove AI into my face, to the point of annoying me. And yes, I was also influenced by the people who feared their jobs would be stolen by AI. Must be all the robot uprising movies they watched. This is what led me to believe governments should meddle with artificial intelligence development in order to prevent it from taking jobs.

There’s currently no evidence that indicates that animation won’t someday be completely replaced by AI. It’s a common belief that ‘creativity’ can’t be replicated by machines, yet our current level of AI technology has proven that wrong numerous times. There’s nothing to suggest at this time that animation is immune to what AI has already done to so many other mediums. In fact, there’s a lot of animation which is already being generated with AI, especially in smaller indie projects.
