I like how you still point out some of the issues with TikTok without exaggerating it or sounding paranoid. I personally deleted TiTtok because it was addicting and greatly shortened my attention span. I don't really like how much people exaggerate the security concerns of tiktok, but I do find it kind of sketchy, and I think you did a good job with not exaggerating, and telling the truth.

coz when u install tiktok, the permissions u give to the app must have " access permissions to camera and microphone" and around 97% of the users don't give a damn about those permissions, so technically they have the " consent " to analyse data they recieve from your mic and camera

Deleting TikTok was the best decision I've ever made. It was fun for a bit when it was still in the growing phase, but as it got bigger it just got worse, both in content and for my mental health. Deleting the app and not getting hooked before it exploded in popularity is 100% a decision I'm glad I made.

I was someone who downloaded it back in 2019. I grew to 100k followers and was creating 4-5 videos a day. I would spend all day everyday on TikTok. Slowly I lost interest in creating and I would just consume. I am so glad I recognised this and deleted it. Same situation, never been happier

⚠️story time⚠️ One of my friends actually had TikTok tic once. I myself don't use TikTok but the tic was really getting out of control. She recovered but we didn't know how it happened. A few years later I see a online newspaper about it and told it to my friend. I told her that TikTok was the reason that it happened and that experience was really gruesome for her. She denied it and said that TikTok was the best thing that happened to her and it would never do such a thing to her. She could not survive without it. The point is that it's really bad to get obsessed with this sort of thing especially since TikTok is dangerous.

What I know about TikTok is that I'm happy to keep avoiding it. Years ago I watched kids I worked with become basically addicted to TikTok and developed a genuine hatred of it (not that I cared for its predecessor either). The first time my kid showed me a TikTok video also turned out to be the first time I was happy to hear "I found it on Tumblr." Kiddo still avoids TikTok. So yep, plenty I don't know about TikTok, but I'm glad I saw this video. Thanks Arun!

I try tiktok every now and then, like when I'm in the hospital and am so bored that Ill scroll for a while, but I never found it that fun

TikTok sucks. Its algorithm sucks too. I've tried using it around a year ago and it kept giving me absolutely irrelevant for me, boring, and unenjoyable content. After a few days I deleted my account and the app. I've never touched TikTok ever again

I think a huge issue with Tik Tok is the fact that it is programming people (especially kids) to have short attention spans, as they are so used to the short content.

@@gabbymidd7 it’s great that you’re aware of this issue! i suggest you to stop consume those short videos on social media and try to ‘exercise’ yourself to focus on one thing for a longer time or to finish everything you’ve started. You’re still very young and short attention span should not be your issue, it will be a very bad habit and may distract your productivity and learning process in a long term. good luck!

3:25 I actually know a girl who used to go to my middle school who broke her back doing one of these challenges. She missed out on like 3/4ths of the school year and when she got back nobody would talk to her and would only talk about how she got injured. Thank you, just thank you. I can't express enough to almost everyone around me how dangerous TikTok is. i deleted my account and haven't used it in about 2-3 years. Cause I noticed it was severely declining my mental health, I was wasting countless HOURS just mindlessly scrolling, and becoming radicalized with crazy conspiracy's that were just believable enough to change my entire world view. I can't deny that there is genuinely good content on tiktok, mostly in the comedy genre. It just seems anything beyond that is dangerous, and at the very least wasting billions of peoples lives. I downloaded TikTok last year and took it off after a couple of months. I wouldn't describe myself as having an addictive personality, but soon realised I was easily spending an hour a day watching the videos. Oddly enough, Instagram - which follows a similar format - is easy to watch for ten minutes or so and then turn off - so yes, I'd say there's something very insidious about the algorithm.

I find it quite educational, obviously not from the user comments, but the videos give me ideas on what I could look up. The videos' also depends on your location, as I have seen many US Americans struggle to find decent TikToks. Of course, mobile app is much more pleasant to watch on and easier to ignore the "dark sides", as if KZread has none.

Pouring boiling hotwater on a person is actually a warcrime as it is a far too much painfull experience for any human being

I downloaded tiktok for like 10 minutes and NOPE I would not like to lose the tiny bit of time I don't spend online.

I think one important aspect of the TikTok algorithm is that basically the whole app is algorithmic! It's not like other social media apps where you can sort by likes, by views, or basically at all. You don't control what you see, it's just served to you when you swipe, and if you're looking for something specific it's almost impossible to find, so you just see what the algorithm wants you to see, all the time. It's not like reddit or youtube where you can look for something and judge it before you click.

If it wasn't for the ban, i don't think I would have escaped the notorious TikTok plague that is taking over this generation. I remember losing nights of sleep for just a few secs of laughs. It was v addicting. The app just seemed to have gotten worse! Thanks Arun for this video.

True but youtube is pretty much the exact same thing and instagram as well. The ban just shows that you couldn't control yourself on the app

I uninstalled TikTok, like yesterday, even though I was not an active user, like I wasn't scrolling all day every day, but it was still a good decision to uninstall, and I don't think I'll install it again XD
