When Ahsoka said “Heir to the Empire” I LOST IT. That’s a reference to the Thrawn trilogy of novels from Legends which chronologically speaking, is around the same time as the Mandoverse

I lost it as well. I've been waiting since I was a kid in the 90s for a live adaption of something Heir to the Empire related. I honestly had high hopes that they might do the Heir to the Empire as the sequel trilogy, but they decanonized it at the time. I was so disappointed and figured we'd never see it. Thankfully, they made Thrawn canon again in one of the animated series. And now they're going to do (hopefully) an adaption of the basic storyline with some changes of course. No original OT cast of course, but maybe that's where the Ghost crew come in. If Rebels ended where it did, then that would make sense why both Ezra and Thrawn weren't around during the events of the OT: they would have been pushed into the uncharted/undiscovered areas of space around the galaxy. They could pull elements from all the Zahn books like Thrawn's backstory, we might see the Chiss Ascendancy, and of course a season could end with a reveal of the Grysk threat that Thrawn is trying to protect his people from using the Empire's military might. Even more interesting if the Rebels and Imperials under Thrawn have to ally temporarily just for survival purposes.

3:04 it’s confirm the voice of thrawn, lars mikkelson is also playing him live fof ahsoka show. Also the name drop “heir to the empire” is the name of the book that thrawn appeared in many years ago before Disney bought the franchise.

@@Belnick6666 Highly likely it's not a flashback. I dunno if you've noticed, but Grand Admiral Thrawn is shaping up to be the Thanos of the Mandoverse, so he most definitely survived. And they won't bring him and Lars Mikkelsen in for a simple flashback 😂

​@@Belnick6666 Maul survived being cut in half and falling to his death, Vader survived being dismembered and burned alive, several characters survived their ship being open to the void, do i have to go on ? Even Thrawn got shot half a dozen times in the chest in a skirmish and got out of it just fine in the canon books. I think they can both overcome a bunch of space whales and broken windows 😂

​@@Belnick6666 I haven't seen Rebels, but from what you said Ezra could use the Force to keep them alive in the ship. I know Thrawn from the books though and am pretty happy they're making him canon in live action now.

The lightsabers are actually orange, interested who the 2 wielding them will be! Very exited for this show.

It's already announced Ray Stevenson is playing Baylon Skoll and the other is his apprentice Shin Hati. Most likely both are the first live-action introductions of Dark Jedi. But no one knows for sure yet.

The sense given from interviews is that these are two Jedi who escaped Order 66 by going into the unknown regions of the galaxy. You can see the woman (Shin) has a padawan braid in the one shot. My guess is whatever they had to do to survive in the unknown regions made them tap into the dark side and they are now some kind of force user we've never seen before. not Light Jedi, not dark-side only Sith but something... else. Really excited to see what they do about that.

@@theaces3697 Doesn’t really matter what we want. Regardless of what you may like or dislike of the three existing trilogies, they’re part of the timeline Lucasfilm is using. Which means every single plot point from every single show and movie leads to the next major event. And they’ve been stressing the importance of cloning in the Star Wars universe lately. Clearly trying to set up a more clear explanation of how Palpatine survived after episode 6.

I read some comments where people noticed that the two wielding the blood orange sabers named Baylon Sköll and Shin Hati… Their last names might be a reference to Norse mythology’s Sköll and Hati the two wolves who chase the sun and moon. Pretty cool reference in my opinion

I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that Filoni really likes wolves so that would definitely seem likely. SW Rebels even uses Loth Wolves, so that would be consistent.

So this is basically the Thrawn book Trilogy with Ahsoka inserted into the story And I AM HERE FOR IT! The two Force Wielders are most likely working for Thrawn. The Question is, will we get Mara Jade, the Emperor's Hand.

I interpret the trailer as a loose adaptation of Heir to the Empire trilogy with the Phoenix cell taking the place of the OT cast. And by extension, the Shin character could be the stand in for Mara Jade while Baylan could be the stand in for Joruus C'baoth. Food for thought right?

Its exciting to see that Lars Mikkelson (Mads Mikkelsons older brother) who voiced Grand Admiral Thrawn in Rebels will be reprising the role in live action

Grand Admiral Thrawn came out in the novels about 25 years ago. He was and is an amazing character. Timothy Zahn wrote a trilogy of books that easily could have been made as the true sequel trilogy to the original movies. Anyway, Timothy Zahn has written even more books featuring Thrawn. And I think Thrawn is interpreted well in Star Wars Rebels. So I'm super excited to see him in live-action with Ahsoka!

2:58. It is confirmed: Lars Mikkelsen who also voiced Thrawn in rebels will be playing the live action version! As a fellow dane this makes me very happy!

Grand Admiral Thrawn will be played by the same actor that did his voice in Rebels Lars Mikkelsen, brother of Mads Mikkelsen who played Galen Erso in Rogue One.

Just to provide a bit more emphasis on the importance of the origin of Thrawn, the trilogy of novels he started in was kind of like Iron Man (2008) for creating this idea of a Star Wars Expanded Universe. Before then there were just the three movies for the world building. There were games and comics, but they weren't really regarded as attempting to flesh out the Star Wars lore. Following the original Thrawn trilogy, there was an explosion of other stories and products that was trying to build out a unified setting founded on the movies and the introduction of the idea of "Canon." It was critical for keeping interest in Star Wars throughout the 90's, and the Thrawn trilogy is one of the few sources of material that actually influenced George Lucas, and now Dave Filoni.

Glad you guys have finished watching Rebels. It is recommended for Ahsoka. I’m just so happy to see my girl Sabine!! I love her so much & the crew of them is amazing. I can’t wait for this

It could just be an Easter egg, but "Heir to the Empire" is a reference to the first SW novel to feature Thrawn, which was also the first novel in what is now called Legends.

well you just saw The ending of rebels but live action 😂 But yeah there's a second trailer already out it was on KZread I saved it to my computer and it was deleted a few hours later showed a bunch of things. thrawns face, Among other cool scenes lothal highway speeder chase , And a few other things, I don't know why they don't release that trailer because it was even more hard hitting

Im super excited for this!! It looks amazing. Ive been loving all the star wars disney+ shows. Holden, I would recommend reading the Heir to the Empire book trilogy as it seems this series will be based off of that story, loosely. Also, I know its not him but doesnt anyone else think Ray Stevenson's character looks almost identical to Emperor Valkorion from The Old Republic?? If they did a live action of that character, he would look exactly like that!!

He looks pretty close to Valkorion, yeah. Sam Neill was the model for Valkorion, who is awesome in 'Peaky Blinders,' too, so if Valkorion ever does get to live-action, Mr. Neill would be my choice to play him (again)

I hope one day months down the road you will post the best episode reactions of Rebels here. We do not need all the reactions, just the best of the best. The season 1 finale, s2 premiere, Rex return, Zeb and Agent Kallus becoming friends, Ashoka learning who Vader is, Twilight of the Aoprentice, Sabine learning the Darksaber, Maul v Obi, Kanan’s sacrifice, a world between worlds, and the finale Only need like 10-12 videos total, would be lots of fun

By the way, it doesn't seem like you're aware of this, so just to let you know, Thrawn has been around since 1991, when Timothy Zahn wrote a trilogy of books that for many people kept Star Wars alive between the originals and the prequels. He was the Sherlock Holmes type character taking over the Empire after RotJ (The first book was actually called Heir to the Empire, which is why Ahsoka calls him that in this trailer), and he got massively, massively popular. So I remember the excitement when they brought him into Rebels in the Season 3 trailer premiering at Celebration, the whole room gave a standing ovation because Filoni pulled him from Legends and made him canon. Now it's almost a deja vu experience with them doing the same thing for his live action debut (both trailers introduced him with a shot of his back, I think, too). So Thrawn has a much longer and broader history than just his role in Rebels. By now, there have also been 10 books written about him, 4 legends, 6 canon

Yes the ones you think who they are, are who you think. The Lightsaber are more orange. The new guy is Ray Stevenson, who played Edward Teach aka Blackbeard from Black Sails. Heir to the Empire is the book series by Timothy Zahn that brought Grand Admiral Thrawn. His is played Lars Mikkelsen, the Voice Actor that played him in Rebles.

Hoping we get to see the Chiss (thrawn ppl) Ascendancy in this show. The books mention them being their own nation of some sorts hidden within the unknown sector of space. They are pretty much dark elves based on how their culture works. And the trope of dark elves in fantasy is they make deals to gain powers be dark magic. Commonly by A. A god or B. A lich. In Star Wars the equivalent of the lich is Palpatine with how much he wants to cheat death (clones of him and wanting access to “world between worlds”) and his origins why he became a sith. In books thrawn acts as an envoy of his ppl to the empire and palpatine will offer resources and other things to them. So I wouldn’t be surprised if whatever left of palpatine (for all we know he is barely alive, mummy like husk) is at the ascendancy. Their resources trying fo keep him alive longer and in return possibly sith knowledge or ancient force history like The Ones he tells them.

Yes, but Thrawn was sent purposely to the Empire as the Chiss figured that the Empire's military prowess would protect them against the Grysk. They also wanted one of their own to be deep in the Empire's ranks and highly favoured in the event that Palpatine decided to try to backstab and conquer them. Thrawn was kind of like their ace in the hole in that aspect. He could use his influence to recommend no attack or warn the Chiss if something like that happened. Remember, Thrawn was not happy about the Death Star being built and was upfront about that to the Emperor. He was concerned that Palpatine might use it against his people and that Palpatine was diverting too many resources to build it when they could be used elsewhere. I think it would be really interesting to see the Chiss Ascendancy and how they operate in live action. We know even though Thrawn was "exiled" (aka to get him into the Empire ranks) he still has ways of communicating with his homeworld and has contacts there.

Heir to the Empire great book series and intro to Thrawn. Xwing and Tie Fighter video games from late 90s brought us more Thrawn and the Tie Advanced fighters that we got to see in Rebels. Finally Thrawn in live action! I’m stoked.

A few points of interest: We see a clear inspiration and homage to the original book series by Timothy Zahn, the so-called Thrawn trilogy from legends. In the trailer, Ahsoka even says the name of the first book, Heir of the Empire. Orange lightsabers are unprofessionally homemade, unstable, similar to Kylo Ren's. This is a reference to the Dark Forces Jedi Knight game series, where the dark Jedi cult had such swords. From this series, we could already see Dark Troopers used in The Mandalorian. Filoni is a big fan of Legends and uses the best of them in the canon. Dark Jedi - not inquisitors, there are speculations in the trailer that it will be Jorus C'Baoth and Mara Jade. We see Ezra for the first time on the hologram. Hera actor is the wife of Ewan McGregor :)

Those are Blood Orange Sabers being wielded by Dark Jedi (Anit-Heroes I think?). Ahsoka said Thrawn is the "Heir to the Empire" which is the name of the comic Thrawn was first introduced. Also about The Mandalorian seasons, are about All Mandalorians not just Jin Darin this is important because word on the street from Lucas Films is David Filoni is directing his FIRST live action movie and it will be a combination of The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, Andor and Ahsoka. I thinking some Avenger style movie. But of course we'll have to wait and see..

What’s really crazy is..think how far we’ve come in terms of animation from say..Jonny Quest, to now..! The animation I find just as satisfying as live action or even more so for storytelling especially in terms of fantasy/sci fi …

I'm curious to see what the Orange sabers mean. Considering that Sith only use Red sabers.

Now that you've watched Rebels, you might be interested to know that Chopper and the Ghost make cameos in Rogue One and Hera is paged on Yavin IV.

The Heir to the Empire storyline where Thrawn was introduced in Legends was considered the sequels to the original trilogy before what we have today. I'm interested to see how they're going to mix legends lore here with the Rebels characters as well as the Mando storyline which was confirmed to all culminate in a film directed by Dave Filoni. I'm apprehensive but optimistic!

Natasha Liu Bordizzo is playing Sabine which I'll be liking as she a Australia like myself and Hera is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead which is Ewan McGregor wife. All these shows are going to lead up to the movie can't wait for that movie. The next Stars Wars is going be in Japan 2025. The guy who plays Thrawn is the guy who does it in Rebels Lars Mikkelsen which the show he will be it in the show too.

I was lucky enough to get to see the Lucasfilm panel at Celebration and let me tell you the Acolyte trailer looked great as well. While Ahsoka seems to be scratching that 90s era Star Wars Expanded Universe itch with Thrawn and a potential ‘Heir to the Empire’ adaption. The Acolyte has that early 00s prequel aesthetic, multiple Jedi feeling nailed down.

Heir to the Empire by Zahn...greatest Star Wars trilogy ever written. I pray they do it even 50% justice.

There’s also speculation that in the final scene of the trailer, Ahsoka is fighting Barris Offee from the Clone Wars series because after she was arrested we never know what happens to her when the whole Order 66 stuff happens

I wonder if some of these characters are Emperor's Hands, like Mara Jade was, who coincidentally first appeared in Heir To The Empire, which was Thrawn's first appearance in Legends.

I have not seen any of the cartoon shows. But after reading all of the extended universe books, seeing Thrawn in a show and hearing the words "Heir to the Empire" was pretty exciting.

just so you know ''Heir to the Empire'' is the first book of a thrawn trilogy which came out in the '90s.

The thing with Mandalorian Season 3 is....Din doesn't have a huge goal. He is more for bounty hunting and helping friends and he doesn't want to lead a huge crowed of people. His Goal in Season 1 was at first Bounty Hunter stuff but then came Grogu and he wanted to protect Grogu and bring him to his Jedi friends. Mission done. Plot of Season 1 and 2 is finished. Bo Katan on the other hand wanted to unit all the Mandalorians. The overall goal of Season 3 and most likely also Season 4 is to unit all Mandalorians. BUT that can't happen instantly... the story needs to evolve and that takes time. It is funny that people criticize Season 3 but forget that all the other shows like Clone Wars and Rebels even have the same issue.

I just started season 2 of Clone Wars, so I've got a LOT LOT LOT of catching up to do before I get to Rebels. ARGH!!! 😀

I've heard a theory that red lightsabres are actually caused by crystals that are made to bleed by the dark side, I guess crystals are alive in some way force wise. Orange sabres are light sabres with the crystals only made to bleed a bit hence orange, not red. I have no idea if this is canon or not, just heard it from a guy on KZread.

Thrawn is played by Lars Mikkelsen. Mikkelsen portrayed Thrawn already in Rebels before.

Do people not think theres a direction in seson 3 of Mando? Its been quite clear the whole seasons about reclaiming mandalore and combining the Mandolorian sects

Thrawn is being played by the man who voiced hin on Rebels

There will be a movie directed by Dave Filoni that will be the ending of the "Filoniverse" (The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett and Ashoka). My guess is that the final villain of all will be Thrawn so... Exciting times to be a Star Wars fan.

Hera is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who married Ewan McGregor last year. The lightsabers were orange, not red. Dave Filoni hinted that there will be a specific reason why.

I would recommend to either read or listen to the Heir to the Empire series to get a really good feel for Thrawn. Plus betting both will enjoy Mara Jade. One of the best EU books and this series would have been the perfect sequel series to Return jedi

Anyone else think the Inquisitor with the Inquisitor blade is Ezra? I haven't looked anything up so I don't know if that character was confirmed to be someone we know. Seems like he could be the right build/height etc.
