Solider#1 had been a marathon runner before, so he was running a bit faster than Solider#2. When Soldier#2 gets tired he falls to the ground exhausted. He tells Solider#1 he can't go on anymore. When Solider#1 comes over to help him up, Solider#2 takes out his sword and cuts Solider#1' across the his calf muscle so he can't run anymore. Soldier#2 says sorry, and leaves Solider#1 there for the wolves eat, while he has time to get away. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aalkm6xvo63Tk5c.html

Lived in Alaska for 18 years now. Still up here. I know for a fact a good bear spray is very effective on any bear UNLESS its a windy day. Can you predict the wind in Alaska? NOPE. So best to carry both a gun and spray.

TTundragrizzly in theory you would have to wait for the bear to be VERY CLOSE if it's windy. Both is ok...but if I'm not a good shooter I'd stick to spray, hand sea flares and keep a nice big knife at hand firmed to my wristle.

Letting the Bear believe you are a prey trying to hide and you could be an easy meal could be really dangerous. Stand your ground, stamp your feet, be noisy, even bluff charge few steps while making yourself as big as possible waving whatever over your shoulders with Bear spray and any arm handy ready of he makes contact. If he does at this point fight for life, nose, eyes ears and tongue are delicate parts to attack with any arm stick rock!

Moronic use of statistics I'm afraid. Since 2.09 million of those people will never visit somewhere where a Brown Bear can attack them. I've had hundreds of bear encounters personally. And secondly, I don't assume any risk at all because it is not "their" environment any more than it is mine. The bear threatens human life in any way, it dies, period. Anything less and one's morality is completely debased. Human life always, and I mean always, sits above the animal's life. What in the world are you talking about? To value an animal over a human being? What happened to you friend? Seriously? How did you arrive at your morality?

Frank Coles From a statistical perspective the conclusions of the studies comparing bear spray to guns is NOT valid. There was no randomization in the selection process of the two groups. It's possible that people with guns are hunting, and most with spray are hiking? As such, the intentions, locations, behaviors (of both humans and bears), as well as time of the season, of the encounters, are likely to be quite different. Also it's possible that hikers in general report encounters at a lower rate... or a higher rate, then hunters. Without properly randomizing the groups, any conclusion about bear spray being more or less effective than guns, is just not valid even though the may authors claim otherwise.

  • @FrankColesMadeEasy

Undergrad in math 25 years ago. I took my required stats classes. They where my favorites along with combinatorics. Anyway, stats (or the math behind the science of causation) really should be required in high schools. It's no more complicated than high school algebra. Anyway, to get a valid comparison, randomly select a certain number of people (enough to satisfy your confidence interval), give 1/4 of them bear spray, give another 1/4 bear spray and a bow tag, give another 1/4 a 44 mag, and give the last 1/4 a bow tag and a 44 mag. Send 'em out in grizzly country for equal amounts of time hiking and hunting, same general location, same time of year.... lather, rinse, repeat until you have enough grizzly encounter data to satisfy what ever confidence interval you determine is appropriate. While doing something like this is possible, it's not really feasible (or ethical.) Instead people all too often rely on these reverse-data-look-up type studies which can be really misleading. If more people took stats, more people would realize this.

+Dan Stephens even with a pistol i wouldn't feel safe, these bears are ambush predators and stealth stalkers . Frankly you'd be lucky to get enough shots fired before it can finish you off in an attack. Mind you Dan people get killed routinely by polarbears near their settlements while carrying high caliber shotguns .. Just stay the crap out of their territory and you will be fine

+Dan Stephens I personally would have my glock 20, as well, But i would def have bear spray as a first option because its easier to use and allot more effective, A good can of spray will make a huge orange cloud almost like a fire extinguisher and will completely blind, disorientate and deter the bear. A fire arm is easier to miss and doesnt give the same immediate effect always, its hard to hit a charging bear. .454 casul is one heft round, but bears in alaska can be big! Almost to where u need a high power rifle and very precise shot placement to take one down. Would liek to see a flashlight like attachment for handguns that has a bear spray...So i can drawn my hang gun in the woods and have the option to use spray first then firearm only if necessary. I can defiantly see a big bear charging you taking gun shots and still killing you, maybe hell die after from bleeding out, but you didnt stop him. On the other hand I cannot imagine even the biggest bear charging through a orange cloud of pepper spray. Not only will it make even the biggest bears run away crying like a baby, hell be blind, youll be able to hide from it and escape

I laughed when you told your buddy not to make eye contact. I put myself in that position and thought, my eyes would be bulging and I couldn't tear them away if someone put a gun to my head. Again, great video, my heart was pumping watching it.

AJ Miller Bear mace? Are you a fucking idiot, or have you never been around these animals. First off once the bear decides to charge the adrenaline hits it before you even get mace anywhere near it by that the time the spray works on a charge the bear is already in the process of ripping you apart. This is why people who live in areas populated by bear carry guns, this is why guides carry guns, and this why my family who lives in Eagle River, Alaska carry guns. And you wont side them with a pistol smaller than a 460 s&w out on hikes
