Or maybe you would see something yourself by chance in the wild. Unfortunately, 4 cubs are too many. Normal birthing is 1-2, but since the introduction of herbicides and insecticides (estrogen mimetic chemicals) into the ENTIRE food chain, wild animals are showing increased rates of birth in most mammal species. Wolves, coyotes, and mountain lions are gaining ground over their prey. Lost of habitat and this have increased human/animal interaction, some being deadly...... Read some science folks......

Black bears are not nearly as protective of their cubs as polar and brown bears are, they have been known to leave them behind if something like a brown bear comes after them. That being said, I wouldn’t recommend getting near one with a cub just to be on the safe side

I would not approach a black bear cub, not get between it and mum, but as long as the mum doesn't perceive a threat, there no issue, I wouldn't recommend this, but, mum's body language gave no indication of stress

This sow was humanized living close to town, and her body language showed no aggression. I’ve been around black bears my entire life and they show aggression and stress before they act. That said. The camera was on the cub, my eyes where on the sow, and the skidoo was left idling. I would not ever get between them.

The resident landowner 2 lots down from our property in west Virginia was chased through our campsite a couple of years ago when he spooked two cubs up a tree nearby. Mom was very upset. Chased him downhill about 150 yards , with his little dog straining at the leash and yapping back at the bear! So many bears now, you can't even cook a hot dog without unwelcome dinner guests!

DAMN! I'm so glad I waited for a minute ,- that was awesome! Well, I hope the cubs all survived as well as mama, 'cause she has got her work of surviving cut out for herself and babies for awhile. I've read that once the cub reaches a certain age the mother will have the cubs climb a tree, (through bear talk), and she then leaves them and never looks back. When the cubs get so hungry they'll come down from the tree and head on out to find the nearest Golden Corral or berry farm.
