Back in the day when it was released, I played this map as a child. I walled myself in vertically with towers and monks behind the wall, converting every enemy unit that approached (you could exceed population limit this way). I also walled in most sheep of the map, so no one would hurt them. To get more gold, I ambushed the monastery in the north west with transport ships and an overly large army put inside the ships, only to steal the relic and withdraw immediately back to the water to avoid any of my units getting wounded. When I finally made the move against green with an army that didn't fit the screen, green didn't stand a chance and lost its handful of opposing units. Now, I was still allied to red, who even after the complete annihilation of green didn't suspect a betrayal. I changed ally status, but not before I had surrounded each and every military building with palisade walls and some towers. Red still warned me to change back the allied status, as his town center crumbled. Oh, red, you didn't the see writing on the walls... Finally, the island was mine and mine alone, with some sheep grassing behind fortified walls.

I did some wacky stuff on this map as a kid as well. I remember always being sent an alliance request by the green player when I built a market, and I would always ally him - then build castle forts all around red's base that I would hold off with my Longbowmen. I wish I'd still play like this, now I just tryhard and the game has lost all its charm

Was anyone else who played this demo hyped up seeing another color but red and blue on map first time playing this?

I couldnt believe my eyes when playing the trial for the first time, especially as hardcore AOE 1 player- I was in awe. Childhood memories 🙂

Amazing to see there’s footage of the old demo version of AoE2 on KZread! I remember originally playing a pirated version of the full game on a disc a family member gave to me. For some reason- aside from the main menu and the victory/defeat screen, there’d be no music, so little child me was so used to listening to the ambience and sound effects of the game. There’d also be some bug where sometimes loading ANY map, campaign- or skirmish, would result in an instant defeat upon starting. I was absolutely terrified of the sound that played when you were defeated. Something about it was absolutely haunting to me as a kid. ANYWAY. I lost the CD during a move and had to resort to this demo version of Age of Kings, and had no means of playing the full game again for a good while. So, I spent many hours replaying the William Wallace campaign and the one skirmish that was available. Oh, and of course I thought I was some mad scientist who could somehow “unlock the full game” if I somehow figured out some “secret code” - Don’t ask me what inspired that idea. I guess my young self was just desperate to play the full game again. In any case, fun to see footage of the demo on here. I’m still an AoE2 fan to this day. Bought the HD Edition the second it came out, and the Definitive Edition of AoE2 the second that came out as well and still semi-regularly gather friends to play it with. ❤

No, unfortunately you can't use most cheat codes. The two codes you can use are "marco" and "polo" that will remove the fog of war.

The cheat codes are different from the demo and the game just google the demo version cheats.
