The speed of Agassi s balls is insane....his talent was like pure Diamond. Wilander was overspeeded but resisted with all his experience and tactical weapons. Great game and wonderful players

Mats Wilander qui explosa à partir de 1989. Un immense joueur entre 82 et 88.

Il commença même fin 88 avec des défaites inquiétantes en finale de Coupe Davis. Contre Carl Uwe Steeb en 5 sets si mes souvenirs sont bons. A l époque ça m avait interpellé mais je m étais dit qu il était en roue libre...et puis non en fait, c était le début de la fin, déjà.

@@cedricdecharme Effectivement, Mats à encore remporté le petit tournoi de Palerme en septembre sur terre-battue, avant un "mauvais" Masters.

@@MrGroenland1 Exact pour Palerme..c est loin tout ça mais c est sympa de se remémorer cette période. J ai cru après sa 1/2 à l AO 90 qu il était de retour mais peut être que la fessée reçue par Edberg l a définitivement éteint.

@@cedricdecharme Je pense pas. C'était le joueur des 80's. Il manquait vraiment de puissance et je pense pas qu'il aurait eu beaucoup de succès à partir des années 90. En 1989, hormis Wimbledon et Cincinnati, il était dépassé mentalement. La correction 6/0 6/3 face à Mancini en 1/2 de Monte-Carlo à été ahurissante.

@@MrGroenland1 Je me souviens parfaitement de cette 1/2 sur le rocher. Une exécution. Mancini jouait le tennis de sa vie.

Shame that this match isn’t in English anywhere on YT. Anyway, this video starts in the 3rd set with Agassi taking the first 6-4, Wilander the second 6-2.

Easy to forget how young they both were. Wilander only 23 and having his best and final year near the top. Agassi still a teen.

still with real hair here... and a terrible net game. He really improved a lot after he realized talent alone wouldn't be sufficient.

Wilander was the consummate tactician. He knew that if it came to a battle of attrition with Agassi then he was going to win.
