Thanks for the info and tips. I find it sad that AFX passes this stuff off. They are basically selling us junk. Never ever liked the can motors.

Thanks for the feedback. I won't say I've been a big fan of the can motors in Mega G+. I think my biggest issue is, that they can't be purchased as a replacement part. Remember when they didn't sell pick up shoes unless they were in a tune up kit too? Considering the fail rate of these motors, or at least the difference in performance levels motor to motor, being able to buy them as a stand alone part is important for racers. I will say I find it harder and harder as time goes on the justify racing the Mega G+. The main reason our racing group focuses on the Mega G+, is we believe we should support current manufacturers, and this is all AFX currently manufacturer. I hope this situation changes in the future.

Yes, the performance difference from new car to new car is shocking. I have had brand new cars out of the package that were total dogs.@@murdervalleyraceway

I highly recommend Viper Formula V Indycars, as well as Bulldog Racing SRT chassis’s. They are what AFX cars should always have been! They are built better/tougher, they are faster, and they corner much better.

Hi Mike, yes, I understand that there are plenty of other options out there, some really good ones too. But in a Mega G+ only racing series, only a Mega G+ is suitable. This video is is demonstrating how to make a Mega G+ a better, and more reliable race chassis.

I can't see the point in taking the board out. Bypassing is faster, and also means the pick up shoe hangers need to be removed from the circuit board. Also stops other racers thinking you have an advantage, because your chassis is now lighter.

Nice tip! Don't know if your allowed to change the pinion gears but if you fit a life like pinion with the same size bore the cars run much better I swap out all my Mega G+ cars pinions with them.

I've definitely seen some Mega G+ chassis's come out of the packet with pinions that are a bit ordinary. The nipple on the end that lines up with the T boss is quite often misshapen. I just cut them off if that's the problem.

I think you're asking about being able to remove the front wheels. Yes they can be removed, but not without damaging them in the process unfortunately.

How do you take the from axle off? Thanks.

  • @murdervalleyraceway

Unfortunately you can't using the conventional methods. It would be possible to cut a small slot in the plastic loop that contains the front axle, it would need to be a slot narrower than the axle size. But that would make the front axle location weaker. Even if you did remove the axle with this method, the wheels can't be separated from the axle without damaging the inside of the wheel.

Ah, it's just a light dig between diffences... Lol. I've met some awesome Americans in my travels. Got quite a few I talk to through the internet also who are good people. The mods in the video about I still use on my weekly racer (it's the chassis I've built in this video). The rear axle mod in particular has made a huge difference, my last chassis wore the axle holes really badly, and the chassis wear wore a slot in the axle too.

Points of note about the Mega G+ that I have noticed. - Magnet traction levels are inconsistent from chassis to chassis by large margins. - Motor performance is also inconsistent with large performance level variance. If you get a fast one that's great, if you don't, playing with the motors like I do does improve them, but if it's not a quick one, it's never going to be. - Rear axle holes are sloppy, thus my experimental fix in this video. - The circuit board attachment failures are very real, and a very common problem. My suggestion if you want to enjoy HO slots, is to get yourself some of the chassis's with the open style motor cans, or some good quality pancake motored chassis's. Both exist in current manufacture.

@@murdervalleyraceway Thanks for the tips. We are pretty happy with the AFX Mega G+ track kit cars so far, they are breaking in and running better. One of them was just flat out faster and holds better to the track like you mentioned about the magnets. For kids starting out, these will be great. We have ordered a few of what I hope are short wheel chassis (SWC)full bodied cars.(why don't the descriptions say SWC/LWC in them?) The open wheeled, long chassis tend to derail on corners which makes for real life racing, but annoying at times. From what I have found, they sell the SWC chassis, but not the bodies separately. I have not checked out the hobby stores, so they might have the bodies separate. But we do not have a local hobby store that carries slot stuff anymore. Had major problem with the track rails below the plastic and having dead spots. 6 15" pieces and a couple curves, hopefully AFX takes care of those so I do not have to return it all. We have 2 lanes we are able to use with 2 areas of stuttering stopping, especially on novice power setting. Still feeling out things and trying to just get the basics down first.
