I find it weird he quotes Carl Young as he's a fascist and a very influential one at that. That quote that Silver pulled was used by the Nazi's to justify their crimes since everyone is responsible for their own actions. So jews having bad things happen to them is their responsibility and not the fault of the Nazi's, the SS rising to power is the result of their merit and not the result of the state elevating them. Carl Young pretty much believed that the world was a savage place where might makes right. He also justified European imperialism by saying it was a natural outcome because of the inferiority and bad choices of the African people.

Nice to see a Christmas carol……covered in late January.

One thing you forgot to mention about the Spirit of Christmas Present, which in most adaptations is left out, is that before he disappears, the Spirit reveals two emaciated children that are with him, Ignorance and Want.

One of the many things I liked about "A Hearth's Warming Tail" as a story is the lessons that the spirits of Hearth's Warming taught to Snowfall Frost. Because they were good lessons to have learned. 1. The Spirit of Hearth's Warming past taught Snowfall that just because she had a rotten past, That's no reason to blame the holidays. 2. The Spirit of Hearth's Warming presents taught Snowfall that she shouldn't shut out ponies, And that she should have fun and make friends before she ends up alone. 3. And finally the Spirit of Hearth's Warming yet to come taught Snowfall, That her decisions in the past and present could gravely effect the future IE causing an apocalyptic winter. Which could all be changed if Snowfall had changed her ways.

I'll do you one better and chime in on your third point. It can also be viewed in a metaphorical way. If Snowfall shuts the holiday out, all her Hearthswarming Eves to come will be cold and lonely after all, who'd want to spend time with the grumpy old mare who's all work and no play?

I really love the opening song, it really sells the community that made FIM so magical. FIM has this nostalgic charm to it, in a world where community has largely collapsed and social media has made a third place obsolete MLP is a world of community and friendship.

Funnily enough, this made me think of the episode of the Ducktales 2017 reboot series "Last Christmas". It features the three Spirits from A Christmas Carol as friends of Scrooge McDuck who take him to Christmas parties through history. It's definitely fun, and sees Louie learning important lessons about the holidays and family. It also features a Wendigo, but I feel it's use here is much more interesting, and respectful, than MLP's, while not being an actual Wendigo. Rather, a "When'dhego?". It is less the traditional Native American monster, and more a cursed soul lost in time, wondering "When'd He Go?" while on the search for a time traveling Scrooge.

I love your work Silver, but I admit it is important to take a look at yourself and not stretch yourself out so thin. You are right about how the message of the various Christmas Carol adaptations can be appreciated any time of the year and not just during Christmas.

It's been so long. This is one of my favorite episodes of season 6, and easily my favorite take on A Christmas Carol.

After a long winter's nap, it's good to see Silverquill doing what he does best: Finding any excuse to bring up BraveStarr.

This was a fun analysis of the underlying themes and ideas that form the Christmas Carol. While the MLP episode alone didn't have a lot to analyze, you did a great job of connecting what it chose to depict and it's limitations to the nature of the original source. There's a lot to be said about the concept of harmony, and it's place in social commentary.

It's good to revisit this nostalgic set up. But it's good to see ya communicate a bit of your struggles. I always enjoy seeing your videos, and I hope whatever you do for your future, you'll find something fulfilling and joyful!

I always appreciate your work when it's present on my feed. I never interpret the absence of your work as a failure to meet expectations. This is the baseline expectation for all youtube videos, but I thought it would be good to say it out loud here.

It gave me such joy to see a new MLP/Christmas Carol After the Fact video. The videos that first got my interest in your channel. I'll be honest, I thought you had stopped making them. Always glad to have more from you and the amazing collaborative efforts as well.

Amazing work on this, I've never seen any actual Christmas Carol movies that weren't parodies or just animated shows casting their own characters over the original, or read the source material, so I thank you for the education on it's premise. Overall this was a fun and entertaining watch, while there were some topics that got a bit "too real" I appreciate the moments of levity that kept the joyful mood up all the way through. Everyone did an amazing job in their roles in this and kudos to you for making something so long be so engaging throughout. A belated Merry Christmas, Silver Quill!

Yeah, another After the Fact! A little late, but hell, I'm pretty happy either way. And oh look! We get several cameos like with the Slice of Life review! The best part is that it's a bunch of the others as characters in a play setting as the characters in _A Christmas Carol,_ one of the most classic books. And yes, no matter what anyone say, _Die Hard_ is in fact a Christmas movie!

Silver, this is easily my favorite video you've ever made so far. Like you, I've seen MANY adaptations of A Christmas Carol, and still watching as many as I can. (It's a Christmas tradition for me~!) I've been saying many times that you can't just repeat the same story beats nor the same lines verbatim as the original story when the story was very much a product of its time and culture. It doesn't quite hold up in different contexts, worlds, and different eras in time. But that's where MLP:FIM's adaptation shines. It does enough to be familiar, but changes enough to fit with the world they've created. (If they can't show Snowfall Frost dying with nopony having any care about her passing, then showing that her misguided sense of altruism is going to fail in the most extreme way is the perfect work-around.) For that reason, I hold this episode in high regards as one of the better adaptations.

Be still my heart! A new After the Fact, and a Christmas Carol parody at that. Your new graphics look fantastic.

Admirable choice. 26:45 I gotta say I really like the barbed return of Scrooge's words that Muppet ACC has. The affected huff from one who is otherwise compassionate, joyous, and giving returning words of callous dismissal at the one moment of caring his charge showed with no embellishment, sneer, or explanation (punctuated with Sir Caine's reaction) is a gut-punch of the first order delivered delightfully understatedly. And then come the point we learn that Doc's Workaholics Anonymous shorts need to make a comeback.

38:08, Alright....... "Rise of the Guardians", it takes place at Easter, it centers around saving Easter, one of the principles is the Easter Bunny....... Yet it is frequently listed as a Christmas movie. Only seeming reason is that it has a tattooed Russian biker Santa.

i have SO missed your after the fact videos. you and josh scorcher are what got me actually to give the show a shot, saw an episode of him reviewing the show and in the corner was a link to one of our after the fact's and they both made me laugh so i was like, screw it i might as well give this a shot, so i did and well now im mostly keeping up with the current series, feel its not as good as FIM but still good. but i digress, i wish at some point youd consider going back and giving the first 3 seasons your comedic treatment

No matter how long it takes in between episodes they are always worth waiting for thanks to the amount of effort, witty dialogue and in-depth look at and around the topics that Friendship is Magic tackles, always make me feel appreciative of the show a little more with each little detail. Fantastic episode!

also if you want to talk about twists on a christmas carol i know of one where SCROOGE IS A WOMAN and is briefly confused when she sees her niece ( cause they changed his nephew into a woman too ) didn't drink after toasting her only to discover her niece was pregnant

I'm Norwegian, and I gotta say, this was a lovely acknowledgement of me and my nine friends because all Norwegians know each other from when we go skiing together.

Even though it's January, I still love to watch holiday themed reviews. At 22:00 Hilarious scene. My brother Rav3n once gifted me a active bear trap last Hearth's warming. The next year, I gifted him a bear and it was not happy being woken up during hibernation. I think I'm already living in the Hearth's Warming future yet to come. As someone who's tried to keep a consistent video posting schedule, I learned very quickly it's a losing battle and both my channels have suffered from it. Both my channels are no longer monetized as I can't maintain the watch hours that youtube requires now, the content ID system is broken as ever and my job makes me so exhausted that I can't seem to sit down and work on videos as much as I use to. It's good to focus on yourself first rather than over working yourself on youtube.

While. yes. people should generally get to choose when and how they socialize, an important context to keep in mind with Starlight specifically is the circumstances that led her to becoming Twilight's apprentice in the first place. She is after all still a reformed villain, and it was Starlight's own feelings of loneliness and isolation that led her down that dark path. By encouraging her to participate in the community celebration, Twilight and Spike are sorta helping to prevent her from inadvertently relapsing into bad habits that could potentially lead Starlight astray again. In that respect, Snowfall Frost works pretty well as the "Scrooge" variant for this story, since her faults are similar enough to Starlight's own, both being ponies who obsessively perused their own selfish vision of what would make the world "better" place without consideration for how it would actually affect others... and although it was Starlight's blind pursuit of revenge against Twilight and not her original plan, both Starlight and Snowfall also engaged in actions that could have lead to a doomed future.

23:40 Now I’m reminded of this one comedy fanfic, Naked Singularity, where Twilight is writing a romance novel and asks Rarity and Fluttershy (Rainbow gets involved too) for advice regarding it….aaaaand it turns out that the characters in the novel are just renamed versions of each of them.

Its great to see another one of these, i got recommended it after not watching for sometime. It still makes me beem too see silver posting, i am only a fan though i have been here since 2014 back when the whole twi princess stuff was happening. And ngl i miss silvers comedy and his adivce, both had help me though out most of my life. Sometimes, when something is hard, i just simply think "how would silver think on this" and i try my best at being my best self after. My favorite after the fact has to be brave star, because i had a mentor who was similar but i didn't know how to approach it and i didn't know how to bring it up with my elders at the time. For a while kinda believing his nihilistic and competitive lessons was the only path to life, that all that matter was being on top and winning. Although he despised cheating, the mind set was similar. After seeing that vid i ended up leaving the bad lessons he taught me, making sure to not fall into the path he did and to remember the good he did. It really help me make my own path and soon i had a lot more optimism, friends and a gf i love with all of my heart. I am having a rough patch right now due to my power being off and having to watch with my phone next to candle light ( fits the theme huh 😆) i am ngl when i say this, silver please never change and thank you for helping me look at life better i believe we need more yt creators like you, thank you for everything bird brain 🦅💗( also i was 14 when i joined, now i am 23. Gotta love how fast time flys 😆)

33:00 I'm actually Seneca Nation through my paternal Grandmother Silver, the other aspect of Wendigo is his shap shifting ability and his power to manipulate. Ultimately the universal aspect of Wendigo is that he represents the darkness and evil in all Man. That said, the fact that it is the good in ponies hearts and the warmth of their love that keeps the Windigos away seems to play on that. With all that said while I am proud of my heritage, I'm not one to nit pick or get angry about every aspect of Native American culture used in media. If I did I wouldn't have loved Bravestarr growing up.

I think the Christmas present segment was my favorite, but only because I laughed slightly harder than on the other segments. Your sense of humor tickles me just right to bring out a smile during a not-so-good day. Thanks for keeping Ayer the fact alive.

I think the reason this episode fell a bit flat for me was that the bad future was portrayed in a very impersonal way. In the original story Scrooge had to confront Tiny Tim's death and the Cratchits' grief as well as the apathetic response of people to his own death. It worked because these were the deaths and reactions of people we had spent the story getting to know. In the MLP episode the doom of Equestria is a bigger, more serious tragedy than the original story, but it doesn't hit as hard because we don't see individual people being affected by it.

One thing I always found hilarious is that probably the most famous Christmas story of all time...is a freaking ghost story.

I do hope SilverQuill takes time for himself and manages his time to ensure his own well-being. Thank you, once again, for another wonderful episode! Happy new year to you as well!

That look cool, dramatic, funny and interesting of the Christmas Carol story. Overall it is amazing video.

I think the one cinematic adaptation of the Christmas Carol that captured the Spirit of Christmas Present's sharp criticism of Scrooge as well as the joy of Christmas, is the one from Scrooged. The sugarplum fairy-like spirit who repeatedly beats the crap out of Frank Cross, even as she drags him across various locations to see how people celebrate Christmas.

I think she even made the point on how one's misdeeds in the past have a way of biting you in the ass in the present. Present makes a huge point over how Frank Cross' self-absorbed behavior has him ignore the personal lives of every one in his social circle, like forcing his assistant (the Cratchitt character) to work an all-nighter at the last minute when her young son has a doctor's appointment (one that was scheduled for months). And Present makes it even more egregious over how Cross ignored his assistant's period of mourning over her husband (she wore black for a year, and even the whole office knew) and said death is why she's taking her son to several doctors because he witnessed it and has been non-verbal ever since. Cross being ignorant and unsympathetic to his assistant's problems is what earns him several dope slaps from Present, along with other reasons.

Great video. You really nailed a lot of the points you made. Also, in regards to an alternate name for the windigos, I would've called them Yuki no uma, which is japanese for snow horses. They remind in a way of the Yukion'na, a famous Yokai in Japan.

Thanks for doing another one of these. I always love them. I don’t think this particular episode did much for the Dickens novel, but like you said, it wasn’t really supposed to. For what it is, it works just fine, and I love that we got it.

Yes, he’s returned

As someone who has trauma in great part due to this holiday, it’s not a bad episode. My favorite part is Luna (all appreciate her appearances!) and the song. It’s really hard for me to even look at red and green together without feeling sadness and panic, but this episode is like really soft pain. Lunas song has absolutely nothing to do with the holiday but rather a warning siren, hits all the right feels, and might need to go listen to it again… Also there’s arguments to be made that if enough ponies DON’T celebrate it, they will invite the Wind-igos again.

Isn't that the prequel to the Christmas Carol episode that took place on Easter, where The Bob Cratchit and Fred were songwriters trying to teach London to love in 1882 by writing a musical that opens on Christmas Eve, and they tried to use electric lights on the scenery and the costumes, but burned down Scrooge's Theater and he forced them to work in his egg factory until it's paid off?

In all seriousness, The Star of Christmas would make less sense as an MLP story. You see Cavis was motivated by wanting to teach all of London to love. In Equestria, it already has a lot of love (To the point of Queen Chrysalis wanting to take it over), so it doesn't really need to be taught.
