When this came out, it was my head canon that receiving Rarity's hat actually helped Pistachio get his cutie mark. The amount of emotion his parents showed, not to mention the emotion they reined in, just screaming "major life moment" to me

Okay, I’m sorry, but everytime I watch Spike sing to Rarity, I really can’t help but tear up there. If that’s not one of the most generous things he’s done for her, I don’t know what is. I just felt so proud to see our little dragon accomplish. He really deserved that kiss.

Twily-nannas Me: I'm with Silverquill, the fact Shining Armor has a specific term for his sister going cuckoo for cocoa puffs, should make him more considerate.

Two things I wanted to reply about... 1- Is it possible the Gift Givers aren't Seers in the traditional sense but more about knowing what they would need the most? It reminds me of one of the Twilight Zone episodes where a giver can give people what they need at the right time. Not necessarily removing free will but improving the odds of a better outcome. Alice seemingly confident of knowing why, but probably getting ahead of herself. 2- I think Discord's manipulating things towards a positive outcome happened way before this episode. Back in Twilight's Kingdom, Discord gave Twilight everything she needed to figure out the box, only to work alongside Tirek, yet not only noticing the shift of magic when Twilight took all their powers but also never telling Tirek about her. And only to be betrayed and just so happen to be Twilight's Key Giver? That seems like him manipulating the situation to be Twilight's friend like he tried before and likely does continue to try later on with the Grogar incident being the worst offender.

Celestia using manipulative teaching has been in the series since season 3 or 4, at the absolute latest, so I'm pretty sure that's where Discord got the idea.

2:20 to 3:30 It's nice of you to acknowledge that even though Marble Pie's heartbreak was never addressed on the show, she still managed to start her path of finding her own happy ending with going off to college in IDW Season 10's Issue #99. It is important that you stressed that not even though Marble Pie lost her chance with Big Mac, it does not lessen her value and worth as a character, as shown in IDW Issues #86 and #99. In any case, I can imagine that Marble Pie and Big Mac would remain close family friends who care for one another and she would become an honorary aunt to Big Mac and Sugar Belle's little colt.

Fluttershy responds with a clearly sarcastic tone of voice. Even Fluttershy is aware that food doesnt have feelings. As Rainbiw Dash flies off she even adds "I hope that helped." I'm aware of the Flim Flam stuff. But this scene is some hardcore Fluttersnark. And it's completely justified. Dash and Flutters are the two oldest friends in the group; they're the only ones to have been friends from childhood. And Dash is asking basic questions she really ought to know. It couldnt be more obvious that Fluttershy is giving Dash shit about this.

It's likely a gift from her parents but also some generic cheap hat she can buy copies of easily. Does seem on brand for the family to not go buying a custom made fancy thing. It has sentimental value not so much market value.

My thoughts behind the reindeer are as such. Alis doesn't see the future that will be, merely the future that all the factors currently present point too. So she only sees the most likely future. The fact that she is so confident is more likely because the gifts will be given within the same day, thus there will be only very minor variance

It's a pity that we never got to see much of Thorax settling in the Crystal Empire, which could have built on Cadance and Shining's parental role by having them take Thorax under their wing and teaching him various social skills. Or how Chrysalis's dichotomy with Cadance was thrown aside to make Starlight her rival. I for one had always been looking forward to the final clash between the Princess of Love and the Queen who steals love.

Every time Flurry Heart plays a meaningful role in a plot, it involves her making a massive mess of something. She's the cutest birth control PSA ever!

I finished my recent college term with a 100% in one course, a 99.6% in another course, and a 97% in the third course. The moment I saw that second course drop by 0.4%, I started panicking, and when I saw the last course drop by a full 3%, I started just shy of hyperventilating.

I really like how the Mane6 all know Spike has a crush, but he still tries to hide it. It's funny and cute. He did done us proud at the end, though! Very nice video. Love your silly humour. Never change! And happy new year.

At least Marble Pie's story didn't end there. Issue #99 of IDW's Season 10 comic gave Marble Pie the starting point towards finding her own happy ending by going off to college while also reaffirming her and Pinkie Pie's bond and love as sisters. She will also get to be a loving aunt for Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich's foal Li'l Cheese. I can also imagine that Marble Pie and Big Mac would remain close family friends who care for one another and she would become an honorary aunt to Big Mac and Sugar Belle's little colt.

you scared me with the mlp being taken down from netflix thing but it looks like Seasons 1-4 are still there. RIP seasons 5-8 though

My personal favorite of the mlp Christmas specials. I also noticed Discord's plan here was very similar to his plan in Season 9. Put a pony in a perilous situation so they can save the day and feel better about themselves. Though I do think Discord comes out looking better here than season 9. I think the reasons are that the stakes are much lower here, he didn't free 4 villains here, didn't accidentally powered them up, and get easily tricked by them. I think it's also the reason I didn't get quite as mad as others did at Discord here as others did since this special shows it didn't go against his character.

Finally new after the fact video

I wasn't that affected by Friendship is Magic getting taken off Netflix since here in Israel they only had up to Season 6, and Netflix wasn't my method of watching the show anyway, but I guess that's the sign of them doing the "Out with the old, in with the new", which is still kinda sad.

Nothing like a Silver-Quill video to end the year on a good note. May all gingerbread approximations fear the Yaks. XD

I see no reason why Pinkie actually needed to participate, except for the convenience of her going to the Gift Givers.

Hilarious as always. I love Twilight's 'I'm not even surprised anymore' face right at the end.

A Christmas review on New Year's Eve? That's pretty cool.

Considering Applejack has a closet full of hats, I think all stories of her hats origin are true to one or another of them.

I would have liked Rarity's story arc more if there wasn't a "Oh look, a package that is not addressed to us. LETS OPEN IT"

I just love that in a show that's main purpose is to advertise toys, they have a plot line criticising Christmas toy marketing strategies that Hasbro themselves have used. I can't decide what's more interesting: the irony or that at some point a Hasbro exec had to green light it.

I often forget that Marble got her heart broken in this one. But glad to she recovered and is doing other stuff.

Lol, Applejack said she won the hat bobbing for apples, but she never said the hat was an official prize, it's possible, for example, she had a bet with her father about apple bobbing, and she won. Love your reviews Silver, thanks for making them.

I liked the special showed Spike still had a bit of a dark side in how he reacted to tricking Fluttershy out of her exchange person, and yet didn't dwell on it and make it a major conflict in the story.

I love that Jeff Dunham reference when ginger-Quill said screw you it’s Merry Christmas. I don’t know if that was intentional or not but still pretty funny.

Concerning Applejacks hat, one fan theory i like the most is that both sorties are true. In which Applejack’s father gifted the hat to her after a game of Bobbing for apples in which she wasnt the winner. But her father’s gift felt like a great enough prize that she kept it all this time and even goes through the trouble of repairing and maintaining it whenever it gets too beat up from day to day incidents. What do you think?

Seriously. We did NOT need that Hasbro. I mean, yeah I thought "Poor Marble" when Big Mac got with Sugar Belle because I FIGURED it would break her heart, but I was happy believing it was my own fan idea!

Thank you for mentioning that psychopathy isn’t a recognised term, having dealt with mental health issues all my life it’s nice to have someone I respect/admire help dispel that nonsense, even if it’s just a small offhand comment.

Aurora, Borea, and Alice could also be representative of the three Moira: Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, since one way the fates were represented _was_ as the three ages of life.

@@weathermangohanssj4 Not all of them ar canon. But not all of them contradict the show either, so those ones ARE canon. If you think that one contradicting comic means that all of the comics are non-canon, then you're wrong. like the show, the comics are "episodic". So to determine whether a specific story in the comics is canon or not, it has to be taken on a case by case basis. For example, Sombra's redemption was made non-canon by the show. That doesn't mean that Trixie going to Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns was made non-canon. The comics are referred to as secondary canon, meaning that they're canon as long as there are no contradictions with the main canon (in this case, the show). This has been confirmed by the show writers to be the case. They even read the comics to avoid contradictions. But it also means that the comics aren't necessary knowledge. Just like how you don't have to read The Hobbit to understand Lord of the Rings, or how you don't have to see Terminator to understand Terminator 2: Judgment Day (to this day, I don't think I've seen the entirety of the first movie).

I personally think that future-sight is like grasping glowing things through thick fog. You can see them, but it isn't until they're closer that you can fully see. Once it's visible, you can properly grasp them. In speaking or acting upon that knowledge, a path is set. Free will exists if you believe in it, and fate exists if one believes in set paths. If one can "Choose" to become happy, then that is one's own "choice." If you believe in fate and you are sad, well, that's fate and there's nothing you can do about it. That's why I think the right to "choose" fate is more inspiring.

I did like this hour-long Christmas special much better than the heart warming eve episode and equally as the Starlight glimmer A Christmas Carol episode

Starlight Glimmer is a children's story cult leader. Even being hyperbolic, you're really just embarrassing yourself instead of making your point with your comparisons. Just saying "I hate Starlight because she's an awful person who gets forgiven too easily." works better.

As a fan who was late to the party, and fell off around season 4, I JUST got to this episode earlier this month. I am SO GRATEFUL to see you still reviewing episodes of MLP FIM. Funny thing, Scott McNeil (the guy who voiced Dinobot) was Flim and Flam. Wasted opportunity, should have used Dinobot's voice for a Pharynx arc.

This was such an amazingly pleasant surprise, I have missed seeing your After the Fact videos. Would very much love to see you do videos on episodes from other shows. I asked a local store about them the reply was "You need to sign up for the waiting list people just keep adding themselves to it and I (as in the store person) don't think we'll have any shelf stock for at least a few years".

Film and Flam have issues? Pheh. To a criminal tee. They blackmailed a princess and therefore committed an act of high treason. Like you said, if that was in a different universe, they’d have their heads cut off and mounted over Celestia’s fireplace.

When Twilight was getting sent to various alternate timelines by Starlight and each one was supposed to be worse than the last, she got sent to one where Flim and Flam were pulling a Fern Gulley and tearing down forests for "Profit". The timeline immediately after that, was Equestria as a blasted wasteland of ashes. According to the writers, they were worse than ALL the villains and were just one step down from the End of All Things

Man it's been a long time since the last after-the-fact video but it's a nice gift for New Year's

It’s not hard to think AJ’s hat is common, her dad giving her 1 but there were tons more out there. Think of it like a baseball hat, it could literally be 1 out of a million but that specific one is special to her

Reminds me of Abby’s cap in Codename kids next door. She has one that was gift from a family member (her older sister) but because of her job she has a few spares so it’s not so bad if one gets wrecked or lost.

The 15.ai for Princess Luna at the begining is a nice touch hahahaxD

Amazingly high-quality animation of the castle collapsing. Also, great seeing the Continuity screen again. I actually remembered that when watching Futari Wa Pretty Cure. In one episode, two girls see the main characters, and decide to dress up as them and put on a kind of show on the local playground for kindergarten kids. In a later episode, those same girls get called on to make costumes by the main characters, pointing out how they're good at making costumes, and referencing the previous incident. And, I mean, they _are_ good. Like they saw two strangers fight a monster, with limited vision, and managed to make believable replicas of their outfits within a week. Those girls got Rarity-level dress making skill. Imagine being stuck under rubble, seeing through the cracks between chairs in a theater or something, and watching two magical girls fight a monster that can create localized weather phenomena. Then imagine being able to recreate their costumes within a week.

Happy New Year everyone!

I like within the first few minutes for that premise alone. XD All hail our Ginger overlord!

My only problem with this special is that I believe Secret Santa should not be switched, so I would say Spike shouldn't do that as a positive thing. Maybe something what Rarity would say, or do, could made him reflect or swich back? But ok, they wanted him to sing a nice song, I get it. I do think however that Rarity's subplot had the most meaning, just like you said. She had no relations with those ponies. One simple word of explenation and they would return the hat to her, no problem, even if the boy would be disappointed. But instead she did something nice to strangers and gaining theeir friendship in return.

This special was fun and the spike song was beautiful

Should have included the 1812 Overture when the castle fell. Missed an opportunity, there, Silver. Happy New Year!
