this is truly amazing. I only have apple's Motion so I tried to follow it by doing research on equivalent plugins and stuff on the side too. Quite a hustle. A lot of things I honestly just tried tweaking around controls and seemed to work similar enough. But if anyone knows how to do it on Motion, pls make a tutorial on this or similar stuff. Tutorials on After effects are just so much more accessible than those for Motion. 🤷‍♂️

Is there any other way to make the ash using stock plugins?

Instead of using the Alpha Inverted Matte, just use Alpha Matte and you'll get the "grow in" effect to your text or image

I had the same problem. I found if I create a "light" layer and named it "emitter" first then created the ash layer, then everything worked correctly.

tutorial was very complicate.

omg 14 minutes with no talking and just music. Worst kind of tutorials

1 year old comment but you deserve the reply, this isnt a lesson on particular its a tutorial on how to make this specific effect, just follow exactly and hopefully you learn exactly what is being effected and you learn by doing.
