Fascinating and useful as always. However, isn’t it high time Adobe privileged their After Effects customers with a straightforward, less fiddly work around?

Thanks! Adobe addressed this 12 years ago with Mocha AE, but this offers another option if you'd prefer not to use it.

Sorry to hear that. You can also try to extend the comp size and use the extrapolate method, or to track with Mocha Ae.
