Super boss tutorial. This will help so much. I have had clients want a lot of particle animations put into stock footage. This would be super helpful for that. Like a particle stream encircling that astronaut... Or data points scattered throughout that city.... Stardust has the capability to use a depth pass. I've used it for data vis on stills before. But I had to fake the depth pass in photoshop. This is so much easier.

Got everything working but the grid comes up over the alpha layer as it animates so I can't use it. What am I missing?

What gpu do you have to use the gpu accelerated version of it?

Update: The version being used is before the 3.0 release of depth scanner so it's the very first gpu version benefitting from likely an Nvidia gpu

This plugin may well provide an easy, much needed depth matte for videos within an AE 2D work space. And if this KZread video is anything to by the tool works fine up to a point. However, good enough doesn’t quite cut it when accuracy is needed in motion compositing. I would want the plugin not to flicker, defocus or jitter. Moreover, in this day and age motion plugins should be written for Windows and Mac.

I bought it recently and put it to the test. The flickering is absolutely horrible. Extremely inconsistent from frame to frame. Definitely wasn't worth the cash for me.

Bought it and ran it through a few scenes recently. For the price, this plugin is super hit and miss. The flickering maps made the end result unusable in the shots I tried. I was hoping I could use this to avoid some rotoscoping, but as expected, this was too good to be true. I'm headed back to Mocha Pro with my tail tucked to finish this project.

I looked at the site for depth scanner and saw a free version with blur water mark. Is that what you were referring to as "...don't have to buy it."?

Hi, the free way I mention is by using the Depth Blur Neural Filter in Photoshop. It only works for still images, but it allows you to at least create a depth pass, that you can then use in After Effects.
