After 46 years Amish, Ray dug into his Bible

I met Ray a few years ago at the Step out of the Boat conference in Ohio, he has a powerful testimony, so this year I grabbed him aside to share a bit of his story!

There's a woman on youtube. I get so tired of her acting like this religion sector is holier than thou. I know more young people have committed suicide in this religion. And also they can't keep your nose out of your business. They are the biggest gossipers. They act like they don't deal with the outside world. But the world they're in they have to know everything you do the sex positions that you use. Who you talk to. What food you eat. How you wear your clothes. What your Home looks like. What things are in your home I've never known anything so controlling and in your face and no personal space as this particular sector of religion.

I had no idea that the Amish do not read their Bibles. And when he said that their clothing is an idol it really struck me. I have always been so fascinated with the Amish community and now that I know the truth I am so sad for them. I pray, that the Lord will intervene in this family, all the children and grandchildren, and bring them to the knowledge of the truth and save their souls, and I pray for the community as a whole, that the Lord will lead each and everyone of them to their Bibles and open up their eyes and their hearts to the truth, and save their souls. I pray in Jesus name through the power of the Holy Spirit. 🙏🏻

There are different sects of Amish people. Depends on the group of Amish. I live among Amish who do read their bibles. A lot of varying Amish communities with different traditions and beliefs. It’s been fascinating. I never knew until I lived among the Amish how different some communities are from another. I pray over all of them - that if any don’t know Jesus truly, I pray they will find Him. They’re such wonderful people.

Shunning is not showing God's love. I'm sorry for what you've gone through. I hope you will be restored to them but take heart God will never treat you like that. These are man-made religions. Imagine you can't use instruments to worship God who commands us to make a joyful noise with instruments that he helped man to create. I've learned a lot about them and their beliefs through Non fiction books. Sorry to say that it sounds like a Cult. There make up their own rules on how people should live. The Bishop seems like a man to be feared seems like a Dictator. Just my opinion. No offense meant but that's how I see it. Why are so many people leaving like yourself? Eyes are opening. He refused, saying something along the lines of him having decided to follow Jesus, as had his wife and children. So the chief ordered that the children be killed, they were shot with arrows. Then it was his wife and finally it was him. With 4 dead people right there in front of him the chief said, "Who is this Jesus that 4 people would stand here and die for?" The chief sought to find out, got saved and the village soon followed. I think, it was a person that saw this event that wrote the song. On the heels of the couple killed in Haiti this is an even more moving topic.

I fortunately experienced a healthy and supportive bible based church and community growing up ( we were not Amish). However, my immediate family distorted these truths into a self serving set of laws and rules that had nothing to do with Scripture. After leaving the family unit at 21, and disowned bc I no longer marched to their drumbeat, I left at sunrise one morning with $200 to my name and nowhere to live (and no job). This was April 1977. I prayed for safety and help from strangers ...and boy did God step in and answer these prayers!! I managed to put myself through university by working every kind of job and gig possible, while also paying to live in a dorm. It did take many years to sort out how to have a close relationship with Jesus in spite of the experience with the family. Now retired, God truly blessed my life in so many ways! If you are going through this, make sure you read the Bible for yourself to understand truth from fiction. And pray without ceasing! 😊 And if you're wondering... I am still disowned to this day.😂

How important is that? Jesus says, “If you don’t love me more than you love your parents, you are not worthy of me. If you don’t love me more than you love your children, you are not worthy of me.” What does it mean not to be worthy of him? It means you won’t have him. If you don’t love Jesus, you won’t have Jesus. Paul says: He who does not love the Lord, let him be accursed (1 Corinthians 16:22). Christianity, what Jesus demands from us, is not most deeply and most fundamentally decisions of the will. That comes later. Deeply and most fundamentally Christianity is a new birth - a deep, profound transformation of what we treasure, what we love. And if that deepest, fullest love isn’t for Jesus, then we are not worthy of Jesus. And being worthy of Jesus doesn’t mean deserving Jesus. It means being suitable, as a redeemed, forgiven person, to be in his presence. When he is your supreme Treasure, you belong with him. ~ John Piper

Just amazing to hear! I remember as a teenager once, my parents went to an Amish neighbor's funeral. My mom tried to encourage the family by saying "at least he's in a better place" and they just said "well, we hope but we can't know." And I just remember how it hit me when she said that. These people, who in the world's eyes, are very religious yet most don't really know God! It's heartbreaking! God bless you guys, praying the rest of your family comes to know Him!

That is because when it comes to earning your way into heaven, one can NEVER, EVER know for sure. The Amish have taken the doctrine of works to the extreme and it isn't a symbol of their spirituality, it is a sign of their doom unless they repent and trust in faith by grace that Jesus, in fact, is THE ONLY way to The Father! May God block every attempt of satan to thwart this couple's children and grandchildren from returning to them. We can definitely be assured of salvation! Romans 10:9 "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Yes, sadly, there are those who go to church, heal people, even prophesy in God's name but they won't get into heaven because they believe these works will save them. Good works on their own can't save us. Putting our faith and hope in Jesus and accepting His free gift of salvation does. I hope that you too, can KNOW that you're saved and where you're going when you leave this earth❤️ Don't take my word for it, read His word!

Initially, i felt the Amish were super spiritual and I admired them for removing themselves from the world. But as time passed I started to learn more about the Amish and their beliefs. That led me to understand that they were believing in salvation by works instead of faith and other things that really opened my eyes to the sinfulness. I'm glad for the salvation of you and your wife and my heart broke when you told of your children turning their back on you. I pray they each will get saved. I was a missionary to Amish and Mennonite. Lived among them as one of them for 7 years. Out of those years of hard labor and a completely different culture, and spiritual warfare. 3 women were born again through a verse by verse bible study in my kitchen. I live with one of them today who, out of her desire to give back, opened her home. She calls me her Mama. I am honored. I helped her get a high school education and college diploma in nursing. She graduated top of her class. This is her 5th year working as a medical surgical technician. I could not be more proud of her accomplishments. Out of the three, including the bishops daughter, my spiritual daughter chose to leave the community. She lost her entire family for that decision in the beginning. Today, out of 15 siblings, only 4 remain in the community. It was a painful journey, but so fruitful. God bless you brother! May your children come to the knowledge of the true gospel. We will pray for you. ❤❤

What a beautiful testimony from Ray. I knew instantly that if the younger children had any chance of changing and following their parents, Ray and Martha would have to let them go. And that is unbelievable pain. I am so thankful they have their youngest child. I pray the rest of their children and grandchildren come to know Jesus. I didnt realize the level of leagalism, idol worship, and satanic influence that the Amish have. I lived in PA for several years, graduating from high school there. My sister married into a Mennonite family and they ran a large dairy farm. I stayed there a few weeks helping out. Her husband was modern and didnt follow his parents ways but because they all worked together and lived close it still created tensions. Years later my sister's marriage ended in divorce. She is now married to another man who is a farrier to the Amish and Mennonite families..My sister and her husband know and love Jesus, but are close enough friends with some of the Amish/Mennonite families to have been invited to attend a wedding or two. I was amazed when Ray said, once he was saved, even though he told no one and he did not change his life style, everyone knew he was different. His new spirit ( the Holy Spirit) was warring against the spirit of satan.

Matthew 19:28 kept coming into my mind as I watched your story…. “Everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or fathers or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.” I also thought of how a light on hill can not be hidden. Stand strong for your unsaved children, remember they were God’s before they were yours and they know Adam came to you and the rest can too. God bless you and your wife.

Thank you for sharing. I was in a religious cult for about 5 years shortly after being born again. Religious demons are the worst. What a courageous stand this couple has taken. I cried a lot over the pain of separation and then shed tears of joy over Adam returning despite the brainwashing and shunning. ♥️

Incredible story.. really sad that what happens inside the Amish community does not reflect what appears to be a Godly, peaceful lifestyle. Must have been a powerful calling to dig into the Bible within that level deception, Praise Jesus that He led that man to do so.

I hope their children come to know Christ. Parenting children is such a labor of love- they grow up and make their life choices and we must let them go. Our heavenly Father loves them more than we do. But still pretty heart crushing.

Yes this is very true. The amish culture is filled with darkness! There are some that know the truth but not near as many as you’d think. My husband grew up Amish and has 2 siblings and their families are still Amish. It breaks my heart to see the darkness!

There’s good in everyone regardless of their beliefs (religious or not). And it’s my belief that if someone is living the best they know how, to their understanding, that’s all Heavenly Father expects of them in this life. However, I do believe that we will all come to know the truth on the other side of the veil, and we will have the opportunity to accept or reject it “over there”.

The Bible tells us that we can know on this side of “the veil”. This time on earth IS our opportunity to search for the truth of salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It’s not about our personal opinions, but about what the Bible says. By faith alone in Christ alone. It is not our goodness that saves us, because there is not one of us that could ever be good enough for a perfect God.

@raylenenielsen5943 Unfortunately, good will not get you to heaven. Now God is a just God. He knows why when where how. Some are stuck in a religion and wanted out and would have accepted Jesus as their Saviour if they heard it. Or maybe they did hear it and accepted it but stuck. So God knows all situations, but don't let that be an excuse. If you can live for the Lord openly, then do so.

Thank you both for sharing. The Word of God is powerful! Life changing indeed! Matthew 10:34-37 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

This is a remarkable testimony. I am so thankful for seeing this as I believe it is of the Lord. My friends live in Lancaster County, PA and I just returned last night. I have a great burden for the Amish community. They are so lost and I feel there will be great persecution up the road. I pray they will finally wake up. My own family has rejected me for over forty years. My son in a an Assembly of God church has rejected me because I and too zealous for the Lord. It hurts so much as I have no one. I adhere to the Lord's promise of saving my family if I let Him deal with them. God bless and keep you. God will faithfully work in them.

Spiritual warfare is no joke. What a horrible thing these Christians went through, losing their children because of their faith. Prayers that God will bring their children back to them, in some way, eventually. As long as we have breath there is hope.

I am a Bible believing Christian. We have a growing Amish community around us for the past ten years. I was a little concerned about them buying up the land, but mostly I was indifferent toward them. About a year ago I was becoming disgruntled toward them because they live in our community, take advantage of our services, take patrons away from our business, but they don't give back to the community in any way. Their horse and buggies and pedestrians are often dangerously in the way. When I turned these feelings to prayer to Jesus, he said, "They need salvation". So I'm listening to former Amish testimonies to learn how. I would like if your tracts could go to this community near us. How can I help that to happen?! I'm praying for them!!
