Probably my favorite modification I made to my e30 when I built it was re pinning all of the lock cylinders to the new ignition barrel I had to buy, e30’s usually have different door and ignition keys but all of mine are keyed to one. No one will ever notice it but it gives me such satisfaction every time I drive the car.

LOVE your reasoning to keep the non-M mirrors. I do the same on my cars. I love the square mirrors. It's a great little cue to people who know the cars too, to know it's not a real M car. Ambers look incredible against your paint color too, good choice.

Car looks fantastic and the front splitter is my favorite detail. As for the mirrors I agree that the M3 mirrors do not look right to the boxy shape of the car. One thing I always notice when I see an E36 are the little rows of bumps on the inside side. Those are there to remove wind noise and I always thought them to be a cool detail. Lastly the locks should always be assembled with plenty of powdered graphite to keep them working smooth for a long time. Any kind of liquid lubricant will only dirty up your key/pocket and will attract dust. A small tube of powdered graphite is available at Lowes or Home Depot where they sell keys. Thanks also for the shout out. It means a lot and it is great to be even a tiny part of the channel.

Love the LPL reference. I've rekeyed more than one lock cylinder in a vintage car, great job figuring it out! Fwiw, if you don't have the correct tumblers for the keys as you did, you can just delete a tumbler. You can also modify individual tumblers using a file in some cases.

After building an e46 Xi sedan 15 years ago and then attempting to restore and build an OEM+ e39 m54 wagon, I swore off BMWs and German cars and stick the Hondas I know and love. Cooling system and various sensors got the best of me on both those cars. Your incredible e36 build has got me in wanting another BMW!!! I really love how e36, e46, and e39 generations drove; one of my faves next to an S2000. As soon as I hit the "Comment" button, probably going to Google e46 M3 or e39 wagon. Maybe this time around I'll see what it takes to build a turbo K24 swap or a Tesla EV swap. BMW driving experience + Honda reliability and ease of maintenance; best of both worlds.

I think the LED rear lights look great, but you'd have to match it with clear corners on the front as well, losing the amber colour in my eyes modernises the look of the older BMW'S in a great yet subtle way.

Obvs all this stuff is on the Google; there’s just something different about hearing it from an enthusiast

Well I will vouch that the E36 platforms was one of the best to ever hit the road. The class of vehicle, for what it is, is unparalleled by anything out there on the road now. They are the smoothest best driving vehicle I have ever owned. They can also be the worst vehicle to own at times. Let me explain. E36's have these nasty little gremlins some times that make you just want to rip our your hair and dump salt on your head. As terrible as that sounds, I would never have it any other way. Once you finally drag that gremlin out and beat the shit out of it you experience probably one of the best feelings of accomplishments on the planet. Each E36 truly has a personality of its own and out of the 7 I have owned since 2008 I have never met 2 E36's that had the same personality. They are quirky cars but fun as hell and will always turn heads. Bottom line you take care of the car, it will take care of you. Don't let maintenance problems go unaddressed. What I tell those that have owned these and told me they are horrid is exactly this. "Well if you had just fixed it properly instead of fly by nighting shit on this vehicle platform it wouldn't have been a pain in the ass or nearly as expensive." I could go on for days about the E36. Buy one. You wont regret it. However I'd do it soon cause the prices on these are skyrocketing.
