I'm here now. You have to be careful what truth they tell us. Dark skinned people were the original turks they are only so light skin due to the obvious reasons. The narrative of being descendants of slaves helps people class themselves as such. Slaves came in many shades. Nubians shared their knowledge and wealth helped them to develop their country. Cleopatra came here for here honeymoon as the Turks welcomed the Queen and her peoples influence.

some moved freely during the ottoman empire, when the ottomans controlled parts of Africa (north africa sudan etc) but yes probably most as slaves.

Also the ottoman empire was an entity for over 600 years. People were moving around in those lands because of trading routes, war, slavery, pilgrimages and freed slaves. People just got the opportunity to settle down.
