Love the tone so warm and charming
That is nice! The many African music's are still dreadfully overlooked especially in the bass community. Thanks to the channel for always digging deep for the best! Cheers...

Oh, definitely. Listen to Bakithi Kumalo, for example. But, in general, there's a good driving bass groove in soukous, mbaqanga, marabi, kwêla, kwaito, makossa... I can't speak to west or east African styles, as I'm not too familiar with them
A lot of subtle and well timed movements and this guy makes it look so easy. Very cool.
this chain is a mine of new talent, thank you for continuing to present all these great performers.
I'm seeing African. I'm only of Scottish descent, born here in the Niagara Peninsula close to Niagara Falls. I saw Jimi Hendrix and George Benson in 1969, my two biggest influences, also with violin, trumpet and sax. When Drastik Measures, from Dominique, first came to Canada they won the Toronto Caribana Best Parade Band Prize their first year. They started a club in the peninsula where most of the migrant workers are, and hired me for two seasons. Soca, soci, dance hall, traditional one-chop raggae, with the Drastik Measures' polyrhythmic sound. They opened for George Benson when he toured the island. Michel Lumana, Mr. NGO, you can share the stage with me any time. Fresh and lively is always the best. If you'd like a little Scottish funk influence, no... not The Average White Band, who had huge funk disco hits, but early Paul Young when he had Dino Paladino on bass, setting a new production standard for pop-rock. When he wanted to "tear your playhouse down", he sounded like he really did.

@@michelbassmrngo4542 You have shown yourself here to be as gracious a gentleman as you are a musician. However... I can ride my bicycle to the American border at Niagara Falls in a couple of hours, but I haven't crossed that border since 1977. It really is different over there, to be polite. Je ne sais pas toutes les mots, and je ne parle tres vite, mais tu est Mon Monsieur. Better than that, there are Sons and Daughters of the Gael who speak Gaelic. Bay-an-uck let, blessings on you.
Brilliant 👌🏿👏🏿 Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
Africans play bass like it's a percussion instrument. You all need to look up Richard bona for some epic bass and vocals too BTW. Cheers y'all!!

Wow...loved it 😍😍😍 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Really cool stuff. Fun and groovy. Much better than all the Darkglass djent bass, in my opinion. And I've been a metaller for over well over 30 years.

I, like you, am a lover of metal. But yes, this is just...so refreshing and good to listen to. Metal is so focused on down-tuning and all kinds of tech. You can't even hear the bass in the mix, and sometimes barely even the guitar. This is just so nice, this sound.
@MrClassicmetal
5 жыл бұрын
Same here! I've been fed a steady diet of metal since childhood, and I really like what I hear. It has a killer groove, the man is very skilled, and his playing is melodic. Regarding some of today's metal music, you're right about that. It's weird; most of those metal guys who down tune were influenced by Geezer Butler one way or another. And he tuned down as well, he pioneered that heavy metal bass sound. But he had a nice, well-defined sound. You can clearly hear it in the mix.
@mrpositronia

@@MrClassicmetal Correct. I'm not knocking Darkglass for the gear, but I think most people who use them tend to aim for a sound that blends with the guitars. I'm all for bass that stands out, like Geezer, Geddy and Steve Harris. :)

@@MrClassicmetal Well, I suppose it was because Iommi and Geezer didn't saturate their tone with tons of distortion and pedals as they really didn't have much to choose from. Some pedals, distortion and processing are good, but like anything, too much is a bad thing.
Awesome!

you are absolutely right because there is a place in New Orleans that is called Kongo square. and that's where jazz was born. something that once again proves that the kongolais are among the founders of jazz. and in this piece, the idea is to show how the thumb technique and Congolese index can work in all styles of the world 😉

Whoever down-voted this is guaranteed to be a crappy bass player or not a bass player. Even if you don't like this style of music, if you cannot appreciate this bass playing then I cant imagine you being a bass player.
I need to figure out that index-thumb picking pattern, anybody got any ideas? Is it a Congolese thing?
