@@alanross2482 he literally has never been able to sing that song live lol. Forced a higher key on the recording than he can actually sing comfortably. Officially nobody knew the song was gonna be a hit (or even make the album) so they didn’t care and just wanted it to sound cool on the album lol. I’ve seen them live like 7 times and it’s always my least favorite part of the set but also it’s guaranteed to be on every set because it’s the only song everyone knows 🤷‍♂️ the die hard fans just accept this unfortunately

the true lyrics were "hey Miss Murder, i love your boots"

aw come on guys he's a little flat, but after years of unhealthy screaming he's paying for it now (on top of natural voice changing with age as well). personally he's done pretty well to preserve his voice and his change of technique will lead to it being better in the longrun (actually, it has gotten better in the past two years). if they tuned a fullstep down they'd be fine.

As a singer myself...I can tell Davey has most definitely damaged his vocal chords from years of screaming and most likely not warming up before shows. I wanna say that the band might even be tuned down a half or whole step down so Davey does not have to strain so hard or sing so high. He did also have vocal chord surgery and that for sure changed his voice forever. Watch Girls Not Grey live with long hair Davey and watch a current live performance of the song. Still, Davey and along with the Sing The Sorrow album totally influenced me to be a better and more powerful singer. peace!

i went to the smashing pumpkins concert two days ago with my family, afi opened the concert and i had never them before. they were *super* good, i definitely need to explore their music, and i will never forget that experience.

Its not just his voice, he isn't trying at all to sing it properly. Honestly sounds like a drunk guy who has never heard the song doing it at karaoke, all the inflections are wrong and random high pitch noises. This might just be a bad mix(it sounds very washed out for what the song is supposed to sound like) but I would almost say it sounds like he hates the song and refused to do it in the style it was written.

I like how people are all talking about daveys voice being bad, first of, they didn't rehearse for this performance, they literally got up about an hour before they played this. Second, it's kroq, anyone having a performance with kroq is gonna sound like shit. Third, they had an actual show the same day they did this (I was there) it was the middle of three days in a row of playing and this night they played a huge majority of older, harder hitting songs, so no Davey wasn't about to strain his voice over some small performance for kroq. Davey is amazing, don't judge on some unimportant set.

It sucks that his throat ended being damaged and he can't sing these songs they were written to played amd song....They are still POSTIVELY amazing, but seeing them like 12 ti,es during STS and December Underground Era it's a massive difference as far as how he sings this and many other songs. I am just blessed he is OK, zi have adore the Band and Davey since was a teenager so we are talking 30 years...

Jade's guitar is a little quiet compared to the drums and bass but apart from that brilliant performance

Well, f... me. I just had the most amazing analysis for this and was ready to post when I lost the whole thing. I had 7 different talking points. So let's see if I can remember what they were. 1. The reason the band didn't react to his "I like your boots" comment is that they are professionals. And they are probably used to him just making weird comments. 2. The way he looks, of course, isn't the same he is older and his style may have changed as he's gotten older. 3. His voice might sound that way since he had multiple shows leading up to this performance. 4. The sound guy could have just had a bad night. Also since they were in a small room that can also affect the quality of the sound. Depending on the size and shape of a room it can totally affect the sound quality to the point that it is DOA. My high school choir had this happened once in a practice room we were using before the competition. 5. The difference between live and studio recording is huge. You can't expect a live performance to sound exactly like that of the studio recording. In the studio, they have available all kinds of effects that aren't available at a live performance. 6. Someone commented about him putting the mic towards the crowd as "being lazy". Well, this is something that I believe I've seen at almost every concert I've ever been to. This is a way he is getting the audience involved with the show. Imho, not being lazy. He also seemed to enjoy himself when he went down into the crowd. Okay, I can't remember everything that I said before but this is most of the talking points that I had listed before. If anyone is wondering, yes I have studied music theory and have sung in multiple choirs. So I know a little bit about what I'm talking about. If anyone wants they can roast me, just be kind. Or I could just be talking out my bum and none of this is correct.

Why is the Vocals false ?

If there is one thing I've noticed about AFI live is that Davey's voice is always a little out of key. He's flat on "I Heard A Voice" as well. It's not age / time, he just seems to struggle in general with his pitch accuracy in live settings. It seems as though intensity and performance is more important to him than accurately hitting the notes. Maybe a different set of in-ear monitors could help? I'm not trying to speak badly of them, but this to me just sounds like a typical AFI live recording.

Whoever the sound guy is needs to get fired but it might just be the acoustics of the room

Prolly cuz it's too small of a stage to perform this particular song. I'm glad he somehow aced it towards the end tho w the screaming part. Not sure what's going on with his fashion choices however. The shorts and tights? I don't think it works 😩

Go to 10 seconds and look at daveys expression 🤷‍♂️ When Jade comes in with the intro it just sounded way mute or washed. Like, I don't give a shit. if I were in Daveys boots here, I would be that asshole that says hold up, stop the fucking song. Sound is fucking OFF. Can we resolve this shit or..?? 🤣

So I was looking for some "live" AFI..and I wasn't sure this was even Davey..it sucks..hardcore..he does that whole "I can't hit this note outside a production studio" move and points the mic to the crowd for the song..MCR does the same thing, but at least they admit it..
