A great summary of the miniFCU. I have been on the wrong side of Kickstarter-like projects before and have lost money. But perhaps I am more risk averse than you as I made an early investment in the miniFCU. Yes, there was a long wait for the product but during that process, there was good communication with investors on progress. When the product arrived I was as delighted as you have been. I hope you will enjoy it for many years. I hope their next product is as well executed.

Got mine last week and I had also problems with the suction cups. My desk has a slightly rough surface, so they don't stick very well. Fortunately the case has mounting holes for a VESA 100 x 100 mounts, so it's possible to buy a small monitor stand desk stand with with a VESA 100 x 100 mount. This adds enough weight, so the miniFCU will not slide around and it's even adjustable in height and angle.

Yeah. Winwing is an established company with a track record of building good equipment and has an established manufacturing chain. I kinda feel bad for the minifcu folks, because I don't think there's any way a hardware startup can compete on price. That and most of the miniFCU reviews I have seen are specific review units to sim "influencers" (therefore, potentially cherry-picked units), and not regular buyers concerns me.

But what I also would like to see is some of the settings of your Hardware, especially the Thrustmaster Airbus Set. Would you for example recommend getting a second addon Unit for the upcoming A380 to really represent four engines. Some times it is hard to find all settings especially when it comes to Sensitivities for example for Fenix, FBW, Inibuilds A320 and even A300 and A310. So, i guess that would help.

Plus free shipping! I was lucky enough to pay only $99 for my miniFCU but then had to pay for the shipping and import tax, which was another $97. I'm very satisfied with it (only wish it was a tad heavier), but would never consider it at the current retail price unless they set up an EU warehouse to make the shipping reasonably priced and hassle free. WinWing's unit looks very appealing, and although visually the miniFCU looks better with the correct font, better modelling of the knobs, recessed buttons, etc. I'd probably go with WinWing at this point just because of the hassle-free shipping experience with no extra charges. I recently got their Orion 2 set of F18 throttle and F16 stick from them and it feels very premium and sturdy.

I have mine a few months now. It's..fine. A few things I don't like about it. 1: The USB connection at the back is very delicate (on mines at least); the slightest movement and it disconnects. 2: There is no option to turn on/off the backlight display. I.e. when you turn off the computer the lights on the unit should also go off, but they don't, which means you have to disconnect/reconnect the USB cable every so often which is a bit of a pain in the arse. 3: It's VERY light. Could have done with some extra weight to it so it doesn't slide around all over the place when moving the dials (the suction cups only go so far). 4: Has an almost cheap feel to it and I get the feeling it's certainly not worth the money they're asking for. But in saying all that..I much prefer using it over the mouse

For pulling the knobs I have developed a habit to pull those with my thumb and middle finger whilst pushing my index finger against the top of the front frame above the display to counteract the force and it stays reasonably in place. When pushing the knobs I push with my thumb while gently resting the rest of my fingers on top of the unit which makes it very stable, as well. Note I have removed the rear suction cups to make the unit sit slightly angled and it actually improved the grip ever so slightly.

What I’m not sure about your analysis about this product is the comparison with the one from Core Flight technology, that you forgot to mention with a very good price, and apart their firmware, allow use for other aircrafts with Spad.next or mobiflight. I have the MCP B737 from them and all my planes use it with Spad.next in a easy way,. Of course there are snippets already created by a few users and my self of course. I like your presentation but I think if buy I go for core flight instead. Is just my opinion.

My only issue with this type of hardware that tends to mimic certain parts of actual plane is that they are very plane specific. :) It is amazing as long as you fly the plane (in this case a320) which this represents. I for example today fly A320, tomorrow I might be on 737 and day after MD-80. So out of 3 sessions in MSFS only for one this will be useful and will fit in. Thats the primary reason I never bothered to invest much in the hardware that is replicating real hardware as I just cannot imagine myself just sticking to one type of plane for the sake of hardware that I have. On the other hand this looks compact and easy to remove if I fly other planes so I might consider it as exception.

Yours looks more like reasonable length. The suction cups are useless for me too. I just removed it and put in rubber feet so it doesn't slide as much on the table. One complaint I have about this unit is that I wish it has an on/off button, so that I can leave it plugged in 24/7 but have it turned off when I'm not using it. Wanted one of these, but Im not okay sending money for items either unfinished, unavailable, or possibly both. Its too easy for these smaller companies to take in, literally, hundreds of thousands of dollars and then not manage things correctly and we end up with no product. Also, just what works for my personal use, but I prefer hardware that extremely versatile since I fly lots of different aircraft. A320 is my favorite though.

I've seen quite a few reviews on this product, all very positive, so I'm clearly missing something because I don't see what all the hype is about. If you're going to buy an FCU then surely you will want an EFIS as well? Assuming this is something they may produce in the future as a separate unit, and they sell it at the same price point, then it isn't that competitive in pricing as there are at least two other products that fall within that price range, possibly slightly cheaper. The first being the Java Simulator's Glare Pack X2 and the other being Quickmade's QFCU which actually gives you a full glare pack. Were either of those two manufacturers/products at the show you went to?

Personally I don't need an EFIS at all. The FCU is where I need to make quick changes on, the EFIS is not. QFCU just looks wrong on the productpage already, I don't think I'll even need to try it to be able to say it won't resemble the real unit closely. That's for two reasons: 1) The switches. They just look nothing at all like the real unit. Also look at how they got the speed knobs shape wrong and the missing paint on speed and vertical speed knobs. That tells me a lot about the product. 2) The indication window. Well, it just doens't look like an Airbus, but it looks like cheaper parts you can get on the internet. And if it's that obvious on both the knobs and the screen, then I think we can judge the overall quality of the product from that. Now let's look at Java Simulator's Glare Pack X2. Fonts don't seem to be very accurate and looking at the EFIS CP the VOR/ADF selector is hugely simplified (misses the protections). Also it's quite a bit more expensive. 455$ for the FCU while miniFCU costs 250$.

No one needs an EFIS just as much as no one needs an FCU, but the majority of people buying this kind of hardware that goes beyond just the basic throttle quadrant/yoke/joystick are simmers that want to drastically reduce/eliminate the use of keyboard/mouse, so when they bring out the EFIS eventually, I will strongly bet that those that got the FCU will also buy the EFIS to go with it. My main disappointment is that I think it is a shame they didn't include both together. I take on board your comments regarding the fact the QFCU unit doesn't look aesthetically like the real thing, however that doesn't necessarily mean the quality is inferior, but you may be right I have not had personal experience with it. With regards to your comments of the Java Simulator's product, I'm not sure what is different with the VOR/ADF selector, and as for the font being different to the real thing, that is quite a minor issue, especially compared to a product that doesn't sit still on the desk when used.

I'm actually an FO on the A330 now. But changing sides isn't hard, you do your training in flight school on the left seat, then fly as an FO on the right seat so any pilot has been there already any way. It does take a few hours in the sim to start getting used to it and to the different perspective in the flight deck, but that doens't make that much of a difference. Few flights and you're in it.

The fact you bought this unit gives credibility to the review; not that you needed the additional credibility. I’ve been watching for and you call it like you see it. I probably will buy this unit. Manipulating the knobs on the MCU with a mouse is slow and you’ve demonstrated that it acts as it does in the aircraft and that will make a big difference in my performance flying the sim. Thanks for this!!

It looks like a great product. However, if you are a casual flight simmer who enjoys more than just airbus, this is too expensive and I don't think worth it. Especially since it's an aircraft specific product. Save your money for new scenery and aircraft. Or new hardware that is more of a must have such as a yoke/sidestick, quadrants, and rudder pedals.

@@A330Driver Exactly. You gave me a good chuckle sir. Everybody has this weird aversion to admitting that the FBW is a FANTASTIC aircraft. AND I DO fly the Fenix and the PMDG. The FBW A320 is a marvel of freeware generosity, and it never disappoints me. People need to go outside and touch grass more. We have TWO high-fidelity A320's to choose from and one of those is completely FREE. And still to come is the ONLY A380 for the entire sim and that will also be high-fidelity and FREE. I think if people uninstalled all of their 3rd party aircraft and realized they are left with just the default aircraft, they would soon realize how much they take things for granted. Love your content as usual. I also wanted to mention that I really enjoyed your discussion of that ATC situation that occurred yesterday while you departed Frankfurt. Excellent learning opportunity! Cheers to you Emmanuel and have a fantastic day and keep up the excellent work!

The unit only displays the numbers in the LCD screen when using the FBW. Fenix was limited due to their licensing issues but that has now changed with V2B2 and a new update coming soon will enable the display for Fenix. That being said, you can still use it with Fenix (just look in the sim for the display) and it works great!
