Affinity Photo 2 For Drone Pilots - Adobe Photoshop Alternative

Ғылым және технология

There has been a lot of talk about some of Adobe's subscription pricing, their End User Licensing Agreement, and the fact that the Feds are now looking into Adobe's practices. Hard couple of weeks for Adobe. If you're looking for a Photoshop Alternative, look no further than Affinity Photo. I purchased Affitinty years ago, and I'm currently using Affinity Photo 2. I bought Affinity Photo 2 for a handful of features, but now I'm taking a new look at it as a Photoshop replacement for my drone business. Today we'll talk about 2 features that make Affinity Photo 2 attractive to me.

I've had Affinity since they first released and along with you, I like the price (on sale, Affinity 2 is like $50 for PC & Mac licenses) and the 360 tooling. I also find it easier to work with than Adobe's products, not necessarily better functionality, but easier to get things done. With Adobe it really helps if you're a long time regular user and know it in depth. With Affinity, it's easier to figure out how to do things and it seems easier to leave it for awhile and come back and pick it right back up again. Good to see you back 🙂

Rich, thanks for this video. I know I would appreciate a series of classes on AZ Drone that go deeper into Affinity Photo.

Even before the recent Adobe 'skulduggery' I was always somewhat confused by Lightroom workflow, moved to Affinity Photo2 and never looked back. Never knew it could do this though, thx for putting this up. Any drone workflow vids always appreciated here

Hi Rich, I have had Affinity Photo for several years but rarely use it. I just stopped my Adobe subscription, because I use Luminar Neo for most of my editing. It's features are great, but it lacks some of the features I like in PS. After watching this video I purchased the Affinity upgrade through the offer in my old version and got a lot of extras in the bundle for $62. I think it will be all I need, and what a great price! Great video! I hope to see more in the future. I have learned more from you over the years than from any other person or source! I sincerely appreciate all of your work and the value you offer through your classes. I wish you the best in health and prosperity.

I think we'll see a lot of folks giving Affinity Photo 2 a trial. I'm glad my channel and videos has helped you over the years. It's always great to hear I'm helping people out. Thanks for letting me know. Oh, and tell me what you think of Affinity Photo. 😀

So glad to hear you're on the mend. Always enjoy your videos. I purchased an M50 a while back on your recommendation and it's been a good investment for me. I've had a part 107 for three years and flown mostly the DJI mini series. I was wondering, in terms of commercial work, as a next step up in drones, would an Air2S be okay or do you think the added expense to move up to a Mavic would be worthwhile? Thanks, so glad you're back at it. Cheers!

Glad to hear you've enjoyed my videos. And I'm glad to hear the M50 has worked out for you. To be honest, that Air2S can do a lot for you. If I were to recommend a Mavic it would be the Mavic 3 Pro, not the enterprise. If you are getting into mapping and modeling, the 3E is good. But if you want to do things like video time lapse, standard video, high quality stills and 360s I'd select the Pro. But keep in mind, your Air2S offers a lot too.

You can definitely make outlines with it. I just don't know how easy it will be compared to what you've already used.

Hi there, Thanks for the video! I have a question: if a customer wants to check the progress of the housing development and you can view it on your computer with the 360 picture, zoom in and out, etc., how can the customer see the same thing if they don't have the software? Is there a way to export it or something similar? Thanks!

You saved me from asking the same question. It would be a great feature for me, if it can be viewed by a third party that doesn't have the application.

We actually use an online hosing service for our 360s. We shoot the images, edit them, and then upload to Kuula. Then I can pass along the web link to the client, and they get to see what I see.

I actually just finished a recording about Affinity and aligning orthomosaics. I think we'll be talking about Affinity Photo here over the next few weeks. 😀
