What is the AES/EBU output on the Midas M32 and Behringer X32 Live Console? what can you do with it? how to route it to different sources?

    Sorry need to correct you on the AES/EBU output of the X32. It is a differential digital signal with signal+ and signal- plus ground. The Left and Right audio channels are carried in different frames of the signal. The AES/EBU output XLR does not have pins for Left and Right as you stated. This signal is similar to the SPDIF (and in its optical form, TOSLINK) like you would find on digital audio devices like minidisc decks, CD players and similar devices, although SPDIF is single-ended not differential. Otherwise useful video - I came here to see how to route a couple of matrices out to the AES/EBU output port, so thanks for solving that one for me!

    That's a relief to know. The c should be delivered here this Thursday/tomorrow. I needed something super compact for these ridiculous micro bars. I use aes ebu out from the DL32 into the venue 360. I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

    How do you connect a World Clock to a Midas M32?

    Interesting video ! Is it possible to go throught the others connections, more precisely the midi connections ? Maybe on an future video how to get a dry signal on a channel , an other channel with the same signal wet with an effect and an other only with the effect return only use with the same signal all to the main stereo bus, is it possible ? Thanks Daniel

    I've already made video on how to use the mixer to control you DAW with midi through the usb cable. But if you're talking about the 5 pin midi in and out, this is to control some things on the console through another midi device like loading scenes or snippets for example. Instead of going through the pages you just hit a button on that midi controller and it will do the action. But in my opinion i don't think it's that useful because you can do that with the assignable buttons on the right side of the console

    Have you ever experimented with aux 7 and 8 ? For example plugging a pc or other devices. To input audio?

  • @danielkharrat

    Aux 7-8 is the usb stick input on the front of the console you can't use your computer with a usb type A and plug it, i mean you can but it doesn't work. You can charge your smartphone if you want it's pretty slow at charging but it works hahah. The usb input only reads losses wav files that are recorded at the same sample rate as the console and 16 bits of dynamic range because that's the bit depth of the usb recorder. If the wav file has a bit depth of 24 bits or 32 bit floating point the console doesn't read it at all So in short the only way to get sound into aux 7-8 is through a usb stick that has an audio file with a bith depth of 16 bits and a sample rate of either 44.1khz or 48khz

    Hi Daniel, What would you typically use this output for in a live pa networking setup? What are the advantages/disadvantages of it? If I use this to connect to my Driverack from the console, would it lower the noise floor? Reduce the cabling from 2 to 1? Just wondering what some practical uses would be. Thank you for your great videos!

    I personally never needed to use it but a practical example would be streaming/filming a live event. If the camera person/team have a recorder or device that can take an AES EBU input and you have already used all of the xlr outputs you can give them the Main LR mix through the AES EBU output. In terms of noise, the analog xlr outputs will do a much better job a canceling the noise because they are balanced whereas the AES EBU is unbalanced So the only time i would use it is if i don't have any more analog outputs, i used them all and i still need 1 or 2 extra outputs. Then the only thing i can do is use the AES EBU but the thing is that the receiving device should be compatible with an AES EBU connection otherwise it will not work

    @@danielkharrat sorry to correct, but you shouldn’t think of aes/ebu as ‘unbalanced’. A single XLR carries 2-channels of digital audio. AES/EBU will likely have a lower noisefloor than an analog path. It’s passing zeros and ones from one device to another (no preamps). Another benefit to using AES is less roundtrip latency (less converters). I use the X/M32’s AES to insert a CEDAR DNS on dialogue buss for that reason.

    I noticed the m32c doesn't have aes ebu out. But the stagebox has it. Will I be able to use the aes ebu out from the digital stage since the m32c rack doesn't have it?

  • @danielkharrat

    @danielkharrat

    Ай бұрын

    Yes It also doesn't have 1/4 inch aux ins and outs but you can use your stagebox i/o for auxes It's the same mixer If it something shows in the control app then it works You know on the full size m32 you have an xlr tab in the routing menu to assign the local xlr outputs on the back of the mixer to something else, but that tab is empty for the m32c because it doesn't have any local xlr outs So to answer your question, yes you can use the aes/ebu on the stagebox box and you can assign a signal to it from the aux out page
