Aerolite 103

Took a different route this time. Wind picked up a bit which caused me to overshoot the base a little and mess up my landing. Not too bad but I definitely need to practice my landings.

    I have flown Trikes for years and trained many pilots. I have considered the Aerolite 103. As a GA pilot, I really like flying part 103 more so than GA aircraft. Something about wind in the wires. Same feeling I got with flying J3’s open door . Good luck with your flying. Be safe.

    Get one can build one in a few weekends the motors can be picked up used if you want to save some money good to find a trust worthy source maybe an engine shop. If you like to tinker with engines you can always find a cheap one rebuild it. There are shops you can ship it to have them go though it probably what I would do. I like 2 strokes if you know what your doing they can be very economical and produce great power for their size.

    When flying what is the most important thing to know? ........ ANSWER:... The minimum speed you can fly before your plane will stall. .....Best way to remember it is to cut a sliver of colored tape, and place it on your speed gauge 5 MPH above stall speed. And never go below the marker.

    What a great video! I have become genuinely excited enough about buying an Aerolite 103 that I written to Dennis at the factory and found a U/L instructor in Georgia (the same state I live in) who teaches in a similar airplane (the 2-seat version of the Quicksilver MX). Which engine do you have, and if you had to do it all over, would you use the same power? I admit that a two-cycle engine would not be my first choice reliability wise, but the 4-cycle engines are so much heavier. Have you flown it enough to get a feel for your fuel consumption. One notion I have kicked around is flying it home from the factory - a distance of almost 400 miles and one that strikes me as ambitious as best.

    I have the Hirth 2702 which they discontinued. Have not flown any other motor so can't help you on that. I would love a 4 stroke too but like you said too heavy. Not sure on fuel use yet since I'm doing pretty short flights. Hey if a 14 year old can fly from Virginia to Oshkosh, 400 should be doable but a lot of planning would have to be done with 7 or more stops for fuel. he had his dad in a chase car to help with nav. and fuel.

    It doesn't have trim but you can add trim tabs or make up an adjustable trim system. I've seen that done on similar planes. I added a trim tab on the elevator and it works good. Yes, it's an enclosed hanger.

    Robert, i have a question. I am a pilot and have flown the C152 mostly, but also have flown the Sundowner, Skipper, and other planes. How hard would it be for me to transition to a 103 ? These little planes really appeal to me. Do you think i would require training ? Thank you.

  • @robertpilchman6605

    @robertpilchman6605

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Jim, I would think that you shouldn't have a problem. Just be aware that they are draggy and slow down real fast when you come off throttle. I was able to train myself with no training in a fixed wing aircraft so with your level of proficiency you should be fine. If you can find someone with a two place like a Quicksilver to take you up you'll be able to see the difference in a small and light plane compared to a larger and heavier plane. Good luck
