I love that you visited here. This is my home airfield. I got to see your airplane after my flight. Glad you like the location. Thanks for the video. ❤
Great airfield and great video, Jon. We were also shocked how easy it was to access the seafront from the airfield. Look forward to returning in the summer weather!

How do you know it's a great video when you've commented before you've even watched it? 🤔

One of my favourite destinations and only 45 minutes (at 65kts) from base. Airfield cafe is good and a walk down to the beach to the snack hut is great for a bacon butty, big multi coloured ice cream cones available from the seafront cafes just a short walk away in the town. Always a friendly welcome at the airfield and much to see and enjoy from the air.
My cousin used to be an engineer on the SAR helicopters there. My brother and I managed to grab a flight on a training mission over the Solent. Winching people from the sea.
Bonus points for wearing the crocs and filming the experience! Great job on the review 👍
I suppose there's always Barra ;) Haha your run to the beach made me chuckle - well played, Jon!

What a great video about Lee On The Solent airfield, a great destination for visiting the south coast.
Does the shirt count as Hi Viz?
It might be a bit of a cold beach, but Barra is definitely closer!
The airfield is in Fareham, the buildings of the old RNAS station are in Gosport.I was born in Turk Town and finished my UK flying there.PPL flying and gliding( which has now stopped off)
I’m surprised the CAA publish owners addresses. Surely GPDR would prevent this. Even the DVSA won’t put previous keeper details on V5 car log books for this reason anymore. Anyone who feels annoyed by aircraft can take its reg, look up the owner and hurl abuse at them!
Lovely stuff Jon. Good to see you really immersing yourself in the experience. 😜
Terrific place to visit. Thanks for the review Jon 👍😊✈️
My respect for you has decreased after knowing you own a pair of Crocs 🤣

Nothing cooler than a middle-aged bloke wearing Crocs, that is so uncool as to be VERY cool! 😎 😂 It is so practical and sensible that I am quite jealous that he’s thought about it before getting into the aircraft. So says another middle-aged bloke…!

Great video Jon I want to go to Portsmouth now via Lee on Solent thx
My local! You’re becoming something of a regular down on the coast now!
Worked at Lee for a bit when BN had the lease to operate the airfield. Wasn’t that busy as they had just taken over from Hampshire police so wasn’t easy to get off the airfield for visiting pilots.
Caernarfon is closer I would say... less than 100m from the sea. Great video Jon :)
Great video, thanks! The day I get to fly from Sweden to UK that airport will be on my list! 👍
Brilliant, throughly good fun, and interesting to boot.

Thanks for watching Neil.
Great video... big fan of yours, I was an aspiring student pilot some years ago now. I took lessons out of blackbushe, then shoreham after moving. to portsmouth. unfortunately life and budget got in the way! I haven't flown since 2018.. great to see portsmouth from the air, spotted my house as well! let me know next time you are going to drop into Solent airfield, I will come and see you! I loved your video with Lewdix... I am an avid watcher of his channel also, have been for years! both great guys! keep up the good content and would be great to meet you! all the best. Reuben

Looking forward to seeing you Reuben.
I've been here a couple times now after trying IoW first. Much easier to reach the seafront at LoS. Very friendly airfield and there's a lovely beachfront restaurant about ten minutes walk away.
Really enjoyed that one and those Crocs 🤣

Haha. Crocs are very useful - especially on a beach.
Crazy pilot ... very funny !!! ... Thanks for sharing ...
Jon, you have to come do some flying in Australia. We’ve got the beach thing downpat and heaps of airfields right on the beach! 🏝️
A great review again, Jon 👍🏻 I loved the bonus touch of humour, which added perfectly to the job of showing the airfield at its best. (Anyone would think you'd done this sort of thing before) 😆 Keep them coming, Sir! 👏🏻👏🏻

Nothing beats Barra
Lee-on-Solent is an amazing airport; it was my favorite place to fly during the weekends. There are also some really nice restaurants not far from the airport, within walking distance.

Anither Airfield, not quite as close to the beach, is Clacton (Sandy beach)

Great Video Jon, In the coming weeks I am starting my MEIR/CPL training at Lee on Solent and will inevitably end up spending some time there, so this review is perfect :). I actually got my PPL on the Slingsby that spent countless nights near your old aircraft in hangar 8!

Thanks Freddie, and good luck with the training. PPL is the slingsby is pretty cool!
As a local, it’s not hyperthermia that puts us off taking a quick dip as much as diphtheria thanks to Southern Water dumping raw sewage into the Solent for which they were fined a record £90m in 2021! 💩😅
That hovercraft museum looks fab! 🤓

It is fun. Check opening times before you visit though.
One of my favourite airfields to fly into with friends in summer. Never taken a dip though or indeed worn a shirt there quite so loud😁, but fair play👏. Re: the question can an airfield be closer to the beach, it’s a close one (about 200m) but yes, that airfield being Caernarfon, another of my favourite destinations for that very reason😊
Great to put a little humour in

The world isn't ready for that!
YMER (Merimbula) has the beach right across the street from the airport gate. Class G airspace up to FL180, with RNP and NDB instrument approaches which you won’t need if it’s beach weather. Cafe in the airline terminal, or you can walk ten minutes north for fish and chip shops. Fuel and a maintenance FBO on site. “It’s not as cold as you’d think it’d be,” is a very English description of a beach :)

Would need a few tanks of fuel to get there, but thanks!
Great stuff, visited Lee on Solent during my QXC and my departure video is on my channel. Somehow crocs are the right choice of footwear for this 😂
I know a place, that is less than 5 minutes, and is certainly more appropriate for your attire. Merimbula, NSW Australia. VH-XUK is a frequent visitor. Ex ‘Iron Maiden’s”, Harrier Force…here 👍😄

Caernarfon? Poss closer?
I always like visiting LotS. It's great that a Local Authority wants to preserve and develop the airport rather than build houses on it, like virtually every other GA airport in the South East

I wonder is Clacton is closer to the beach? I don’t think India Victor would land there though
over in the NW USA we have S16, Copalis, a Washington state airport which is literally on the beach. I don't favor swimming in the cold ocean though. also it's a dreadfully long flight for you.

Yes. check Barra in the Scottish Islands where the the aircraft literally lands on the beach.

Am I in heaven?! Someone who isn't familiar with the area DIDN'T say Gosport or Lee-on-the-Solent are 'in' or 'part of' Portsmouth? Thank you! (edit: the worst was Sir Tony Robinson on Time Team, though - they were doing a dig at our (former) local hospital, Haslar, pronounced Haz-ler, one year; it's very much in Gosport. But there's Tony in the intro, proudly declaring 'this is Haz-larrrrrrrr - in Portsmouth'!) Another edit: sorry about the sad nitwits who harass people for being too loud or flying where they shouldn't fly. Most of us aren't like that at all!
@andytamlyn
4 ай бұрын
To put that into perspective, nitwits quantity x 2! Rumour has it that one has a red hotline direct to the tower that is exercised daily just to make sure it works! And the other one even complains about the sound of the Spitfire in the circuit! 😳. It’s a real shame as Martin and the airport do everything possible to keep this very small minority happy - even to the extent of shaving that corner off the 23 downwind to base circuit, which, in my humble opinion, does make things a bit more tricky for the low hour students learning to fly there. Great call out to the 3 wonderful flying schools there too! 👍
@danielkarmy4893

@@andytamlyn Absolutely. It's a shame those people have nothing better to do, glad I'm not that miserable...I mean the sound of the Spitfire is just majestic, always has been and always will be. 🙂
It's not the nearest airport to the beach... The airport at Barra is on the beach, as I'm sure you know seeing as you failed to land there last year .
got to say, closest on a beach has to be EGNH 10 APPROACH haha

Let us once again break out the tiniest violin in the world for those people that buy houses next to airports and then complain about the noise of aeroplanes.
Interesting to see how many KZreadrs incriminate themselves… This pilot joins crosswind 400 feet high and then by his own admission descends onto the downwind leg. That’s inherently dangerous. Descent to circuit altitude is performed on the dead side or before joining direct.
@TheFlyingReporter
4 ай бұрын
Negative. Joins downwind, not crosswind.
I take it back, you DID land on the beach at Barra. My apologies.
A beach full of shingle and the sea full of excrement.
