Oxidative Phosphorylation involves the formation of massive amounts of ATP using reduced NAD and reduced FAD. The electron transfer chain is involved to drive protons into the intermembrane space so that a chemiosmotic gradient can be established. Hydrogen ions then flow through ATP synthase!
