Storms this year have been crazy! Had trees coming down, half my shingles blown off and no power for six days already and it looks like this is just getting started. Sending prayers for these poor folks!

We had three storms spawn tornadoes here this spring, one an EF-2 - we’ve never had a single tornado touch down in this area in recorded history (and our history goes back to the 1700s!). Warmer air holds more moisture. Moisture powers up storms.

Republicans have been blocking dealing with Global Warming for years (likely due to how much oil company money has flowed to their political party and individual campaigns). So yes, flooding is increasingly becoming certain people's fault.

Too much rain and too much cement and concrete. The ground can absorb rain (usually) but if the ground is covered too much, the water has no place to go.

@@magesalmanac6424 Very little concrete and pavement in Northern Iowa. This has nothing to do with too much impervious surface like your typical cityscape, it is all about excessive rains and flat ground. The rich farmland can only hold so much water. The Rock River has flooded its banks and this is the result. I have family a few miles North, and the situation is vary serious. BTW, Cement is a part of concrete. Concrete is what you see when cement is mixed, poured, tooled, and cured.

This happens in part thanks to Global Warming. It brings both worse droughts and heavier rains when it does rain. Heavier rains mean more flooding.

How much rain ?

Well, not really. Other places are in drought, or extreme heat, or early season tropical storms, or wildfires. None of it is surprising, chaotic weather has been the projected result of climate in flux for decades. The question is, what will it take to convince deniers like @cbrashsorensen ? It will get worse before it gets better.
