I'm an avid collector of Aer bags and currently own 7 of them. I love that Aer is getting into the luggage space but was hoping to see more innovation in materials, design and functionality. In their next version of a plastic zipper hard case, I hope to see volume expandability, bottom grab handle, lighter frame, external pockets, more internal organization, integrated top grab handle for totally flat top working surface, xpac cover, unlimited height retractable trolley handle, etc.

I don't get why Aer made this, it just looks like a standard piece of luggage and doesn't have any of their signature design elements Aer is known for.

Agreed. Companies like DB, do a great job with keeping their design language and everything integrates well together. This just seems like they’re testing the waters but not adding anything to set it apart.

@@jaep2495 i would have liked to see cordura on the outside, maybe like a taller “travel pack” or just semi-soft sided. Or even dimensions that actually fit a carry on size but with better organization. Maybe a monos style exterior pocket. Like I pointed out, take a look at how the entire DB Journey like up matches, even their carry-ons keep their signature attachment points.

Why would Aer make it slightly bigger than many airlines “carry on” size? I will definitively not buy this because of that alone.

its technically outside of airline posted measurements but easily fits into all regular planes.

Pro tip: If you have luggage that has a loose liner inside like that you can open the zipper slightly and use a handheld vacuum with a crevice tip and it will suction the liner to the inside.

There are a ton of luggages in Japan that have the stopper feature. It's basically standard there since so many people travel by train. Ex: Innovator INV series.

I know they don’t mention price often in these reviews, but this case is 380 dollars. When you can get a super similar case from away or monos for at least 100 dollars less, I personally couldn’t see myself buying this. I was expecting something more uniquely “Aer” from them.

4kg while EMPTY is insane. This thing is dead on arrival

Yep, especially in Asia where carry-on limits are 7kg. Muji makes a very similar carry-on case with locking wheels that's half the price and over 1kg lighter.

July light weight carry on is great. Only 2.3kg for expandable one and 2kg for regular one.

This sort of seems like a miss for AER. I honestly expected more from them. Maybe they will take some lessons from this first go and elevate their offering for v2.

Like the look and the materials etc seem super nice - but it is a bit too large for me, don't want to deal with the likelihood of it being checked at the gate...

380 USD is crazy when Monos is 255 USD and has pretty much the exact same features except the wheel lock… Oh and the Monos is lighter and doesn’t exceed the dimensions of most airlines unlike this one. Swing and a miss by Aer unfortunately.

Nice review! Appreciate the early look. With carry-ons specifically, a pet pee e of mine is any wiggle or play in the telescoping handles, especially on pricier models. Can you speak to that for Aer's offering? Thanks!

Completely agree with the way the panel flips open. I much prefer it flip open to the left or right instead of to the top

BTW What's the warranty support on this? How does that compare to other bags in this size and price category?

I was excited for this! I just learned of it today. I think its funny how the two videos mention the bevelled trim - on Aers request.... and yet they push their influencer/ media partners to mention the weight! 8lbs/4 kg! Its useless at that weight.

The website advertises 48L capacity for this suitcase…that seems wildly inaccurate, right? This suitcase is only half an inch deeper and 1in wider than the Nomatic Carry-On Classic and that’s at 30L.

I had this in my cart on launch day and held off after noticing the size. Seeing all the reviews has made me pull back. I'm a big Aer fan who backed them on kickstarter and own 4 major products. This is a bit disappointing. Things like no handle on the bottom, unintuitive folder design, weight, and worst of all a non-compliant size? Thank you Pack Hacker for another great review. I'm going to hold off personally now.

fits on all planes just fine

since this is Aer's first foray into luggage-suitcase products, I think the criticisms are totally warranted (too expensive, heavy, big, and annoying), but given the brand's track record, I'm sure the Carry-On 2 will be way better and more uniquely "Aer". Definitely going to wait for the next iteration!

Picked up a 5.11 Roller for half the price of this, not sure what AER thinks justifies this price….

I will wait for the third version of this product. I'm sure AER will listen to the consumers and adapt accordingly.

Nope! Thr last two airlines that sized my bags were full service airlines. Bags that are technically above the limit are out of thr question

AER: we need new product OEM bag maker: say no more

This looks like a direct copy of the Ridge Carry On.

Flying is a headache. Why make a bag that is gonna possibly get gate checked and cause more stress?! 😂. Pass.

Why you never mention weight being such an incredibly important factor?

Common issue with most onebag content, they just stuff it in and assume that the weight will never get checked.

This seems like a suitcase designed by someone who has never had to actually travel with a suitcase before.

This feels pretty uninspired by Aer. It’s made by the manufacturer who creates Away it seems, and the interior color and layout is essentially identical to a Monos, despite this bag costing a fair amount more. I’m only slightly disappointed! Was hoping for something more unique that would immediately say “buy me.” That said…Peak Design is launching a carry on within the next year, and I expect that to be stellar.

My 10 year old Samsonite carry-on hardsided baby blue bag has the same features and in today's dollars would be half the price. With more than 500 flights under it's belt it is still going strong with only a few scratches. Also, the Samsonite has an expansion option which you can use either for overall bag compression or if you need more room leave it expanded while traveling by car/cruise. At $380 this is a non-starter.

Briggs and Riley Baseline luggage is far superior to Aer’s ridiculous mess. Stay with the backpacks.

Zipper closure? Uh, no. I was interested until I hit play. It's no different than the 3,824 carry-ons but in bright orange.

NIce little thing for car travel, well done. Not too big so you can easily put it in and out. If the handles don't break. Of course it does not look serious enough for business hotel purposes but it's surely fine for going to gym or maybe even for a weeend with your family or so. As carry on for flights I would not want to use it. As it seems (by weight and dimensions) only made for private airplanes which do not have any carry on regulations, I have to express my regret: sorry AER but for private flights I use only Rimowa luggage.

Why not just check the bag IN and just a pro tip pack less so its not over weight , come on guys AER is a great company we should the company new offering

Because its not a check-in bag. Its literally named "The Carry-on". If it was designed to be checked-in, then it would be called "The Check-in" That's like asking why we can't use a Cannondale bike as a computer if the brand is reputable - because they're completely separate things.

I was really looking forward to this "carry-on". Since it's too big for 4/5 of the last airlines I've flown, I won't be buying this.

I don't need a rolling case, but I love that colour. Pack Hacker Reviews make me want to buy things I don't need.. stop it.. 🤪🤣

This looks exactly like the monos carry on. lol I’m pretty sure it’s made by them with an aer logo stamped on it.

Any carry-on over 2 kg is an immediate no for me. My favourite one, from iT Luggage's "World's Lightest" line, weighs just 1.6 kg. The size is unfortunate too. I'd want a bag that'll work with as many airlines as possible - selling a "carry-on" that's too big for major airlines in the target region seems like a very poor design choice.

So wish this would have been a backpack. Love their products, but don’t want wheels.

Save your money and buy something hard sided at TJ maxx, marshalls, ross etc it'll perform as good for a fraction of the cost.

This is a massive pet peeve of mine. Can designers please stop oversizing ‘carry on luggage’? I value being able to avoid gate-checks massively more than an extra couple of litres of size. Hard pass on this.

Totally agree. Building in an expandability option would ensure users have the option to ensure a fully compatible case. Worse case, can repack.

Meh...... Like other Aer products, looks good, works ok, price not so good.

Hey guys I have a request - Can you guys do a backpack called Zingaro 35 from India 🇮🇳 It's pretty good and has some unique features.

Too big, too heavy, too standard, too expensive. A definite pass for me.

Ironic that a brand called "Aer" made a heavy-ass carry-on suitcase. Thing kinda just sucks overall.

This thing is a huuuuuge miss for Aer. Too big, too heavy, too boring, too similar to others, and just too damn expensive considering all the above. Definitely won’t be buying this, and Aer lost a few points from making something so bad. I’ll wait to peak designs launches their carry on as I’m sure it will be phenomenal. They truly innovate.
