Music to my ears! My dad had one of the first Ergo cabbed Mandators with an AV760 engine. Engine number AV760/152. New in 1966 the reg no was DEN803D. I was only 11 years old at the time but I can still hear that engine in my mind. Am I a sad git or what haha!

owdblenky nothing sad about that my friend. I still have Gardner LW’s ringing in my ears from fairground generator sets. I’d have my turn on the dodgems and hook a duck then spend the rest of my time at the fair just looking at the wagons.

Yeah, aec 6 speed box worked on them myself, the woodruff keys for the main shaft gears sometimes sheared and you would loose that gear, but a reliable box all the same.

Sliding mesh gearbox was referred to as "crash box". Not used by AEC since 1930s.

Taking some time to get oil to the top end isn't it, Overhauled loads of these in my time & my trainer would have binned me treating one like this, & if oil took that long to get top end would have stopped it straight away & investigated WHY !!. Those strainers in the sump that you had to get the oil pick up pipe into when putting the sump on, when the engine was still in the truck gave some arm aches I tell ya, specially as a young apprentice. Loved these engines though.

hi, whats happened to the rocker covers and the 2 oil bath air cleaners.what will you use this engine for ? i worked at AEC and made loads of these engines and av505s.they did not all have the same sumps or rocker covers. eg the mod engines was a different spec.and so on. pump timing was normaly 15 degrees btdc, and when hot will not smoke

The valve and pump timing are out on that lump, I know as it was a difficult engine to get right as no timing marks on the gears, all done with dial gauges and measures.

No, same as with the AEC 505, one is Veritcal (AV) and the other is horizontal (AH)

Some people think when they fit a rocker gasket they have carried out a rebuild. Lazy gits.
