Hey Taylor, There are two varieties of FCR; side draught and angled, looks like you’ve got the side draught ones which means they need to be mounted with the body vertical as opposed to on an angle like your CVs were meant to be, basically you’ll just need to look at the angle of the float bowl and see if that’s parallel to the ground when they’re mounted Additionally they definitely need to be balanced, you can hear them running unevenly, will make a big difference! I found a cheap and handy little airflow meter made for beetle carbs, you just put the snout of it up to the velocity stack and it’ll read out how much vacuum it’s pulling, then you just ensure they’re all pulling the same at idle Also it’s “Kay-Hin” hehe

These look like the angled ones, look at 23:33 and you can see the slanted carbs.
@BADDTIMES

You can see actually that the angle of the line of the top of the float bowl is parallel to that of the carb body as well as the actual Venturi so im quite confident they’re side drafts

Slant body and Fcr MX. Came because im rebuilding mine
If it's not a vacuum leak, you might have built a whistle with your off set intake runners 😂
I know this comment may go unnoticed but that wielding table paid for itself I’m not even gonna cap
I’m 50 and have been cocking about with cars and bikes my whole life. Kehin FCRs are the best carbs I’ve ever used, power and economy - I have a pair on my old Ducati 900SL - you can hear them on my channel. Keep up the good work👍
Taylor, also - I don't know if anyone has said this - you may need to balance those carbs. There are plenty of cheap tools for this, and you basically measure the airflow at each carb and adjust individually. When I had a built 1.6 in my Miata with Toyota ITBs this was key to getting it running really well.

with the programable ign box you can switch to a crank trigger set up and just get rid of the distributor. and use a wasted spark set up from a ford ou Peugeot like i did :)

That first start-up with the clicks, chirps and putt putts at idol reminded me of when they 1st got Chitty Chitty Bang Bang running. Once it got some RPM's in it, it sounded killer! Get that tip in tuned in right and it'll be rocking...
Use candle wax on the grinding burr and it will help in preventing the flutes from gumming up with aluminum.

34:45 It's placement of the carbs to the intake very familiar with this sound. Had this on my vertical dual carb set up on my VW engine, dual 40mm Dellortos. Carb to intake was paper, then switched to rubber mount and fixed the vacuum problem. Definitely a vacuum issue from carbs to intake.
Who wants to see Taylor at LZ fest?
Glad you went with FCR for the win 🏆
The tip in hesitation is the accelerator pump timing being too early. It's a struggle with FCRs. I've been racing on these things for 25 years! The off throttle bog usually isnt a problem, until it is, on a jump face in my case 😳
@motoweenies4431
Жыл бұрын
I think I got rid of my bog by changing the accel spring to a different year that was apparently better. Also I got one of those fancy bowls with the externally adjustable accel pump, I think that helped for sure but wasn't totally necessary

@@bennyb.1742 Just a smaller leak down jet and a zip tie holding the accelerator pump linkage gets you the same shot as a Boysen, at least on FCR39s in my experience. The big thing is getting the pump timing perfect on the bench before it goes back in the bike/quad/vehicle.
What a sound, and the clack man! Love it, best setup you could have on an 86. FCR Carbs for the win! They add so much presence to the engine bay too. Would love a set of these on my old VW Polo, was running on CBR600 carbs before it went back to sensible daily mode lol.

I havent had much time to watch lately, but brother i have to say i am proud of you. I dont know you at all outside of watching your channel, but what an inspiration. I started watching when you had the first gen dodge and that tiny little garage to work out of. You've got a gnarly little collection of awesome cars here. Keep doing whatever youre doing 🤝🏽
FCRs are super cool. Can't wait to see everything all cleaned up
first, those carbs are sick. second, hyped you built a new bike! that 3 over the rail was a banger
That little whistle sounds funny lol
Dude, I miss my BMX days. I had a pretty baller Haro frame with everything else custom back in the day, couldn't recall the parts now, this was 25 years ago.
Wow! Sounds so cool! Looking forward to the header build. 😎👍🛠
Love this, ae86+fcr+header builds+BMX all my favourite things 😬
Love your taking the ol'skool approach. That thing sounds sick as hell ! so nostalgic, dude 👍👍👏👏
Taylor, The fcr carbs have a vacuum plate on the front of the slide on each carb that closes when they're off throttle. Thats likely the whistle you're hearing when you blip the throttle. It's normal for every fcr I've ever had. As for the bog when you rap the throttle you can try bumping up a jet size, it usually helped mine but makes them a little harder staring when they're hot.
Taylor on a BMX just like the first time I saw him on Adam's channel. Takes me back!
Those sounds amazing, It's the right sound for this beast that is all about the feels than the function
Heck yeah man stoked on the way the bmx turned out. I learned tailwhips again after a long break from the bike due to illness. Riding again is the best!
Come drift with us at Apple valley Speedway! For 8/6 Day
LUV those flat side carbs, good job making them work!!
So pumped for this nostalgia build! Love from Italy Taylor !❤
To keep your burr tool from clogging up use cutting wax. It also helps drill bits and saw blades cut into aluminum.
The clack of the FCR carbs always make sme think about the dlack that old Ducatis have fron their desmo valves...something about them is just so satisfying
thanks to you and a few other tubers im finally getting back into tinkering with my eg hatch, all the little things i ignored 7 years ago im finally addressing and its like a whole new car. First set of new coils from BC racing, ditched the dizzy for Coil on plug, redid the fuel rail and lines to AN and regulator by deatch and found i had been running lean the whole time and eatting away my pistons. you can see the piston to wall clearance is bad lol. bought a lil harbor frieght welder to fix lil holes and rattles in the exhaust and just tacked painting it and with rattle cans( trust me it looks sweet) next im looking into doing my own interior work to give it a more premium look and feel like a bmw or something rather than a plastic rattle trap. Ima have to sent you a couple photos of it. i just wish i had it in me to record the progress and just show ppl but i hate being on camera lol
You're little squirrel is chirping on the round wheel running😂

40 year old here. Remember BMX is a young man’s game, you’re gonna be more sore, more tired and generally it’s gonna be much harder than when you’re younger. But having said that, it’s awesome to do and try as you get older.

Man those carbs look and sound GREAT! I do hope however that you revisit that intake manifold in the near future and build a properly spaced one, I understand hacking the one you had together just to get it working but if you're gonna go through all the trouble of building a new header for mostly aesthetic reasons there's really no excuse for leaving it that way long term.
The chirp is a vacuum leak. I'd guess boots first, but maybe a weld? Edit: spray some carb cleaner/starting fluid/brakekleen, and listen for it to idle up
Absolutely love the fcrs! I'd put a smaller leak down jet in the accelerater pump circuit after balancing them out that will help massively with the hesitation then fine tune the timing on the accelerater pump from there if your happy with the afr
The bmx clips tho that's nostalgia in itself dude yes!!! I love it!!
It’s awesome to see some of your old BMX clips!

I got the craving to ride again a couple years ago.. After a month of hitting a little kicker at home and practicing half cabs i went to the skate park for a go. 2nd time at the park was the last and spent half a year off work recovering a broken ankle...so much for trying to stay fit aye haha
The header model was sick! Love true tool you used to mock it up. Looks awesome so far!
Damn 600k subs Taylor the MAN!
I always wanted a Hutch frame with the Quadangle forks, that was my 90's dream bike.

gotta love that fcr chirp!!
You should make garage build co aprons with bolt pockets on the chest
This video was all over the place in the best way possible. It's fun to go back to BMX. The intake noise is weird. It sounds like those horrible bird whistles with the water in them. It may be the cheap plastic air venturis making the noise. Once balance tune them, the carbs will sing.
We all did something growing up.. keep a board in my trunk at all times 🤙🏻
Sounds so good!! I want to do this on a suzuki swift gti. You have shown me the way mate

Did u get to the bottom of the bird noise? Interesting? Been a bit longer between drinks lately mate... so loving the frequency hahaha...

The carbs made my day
I wish i never stopped riding bmx.
Spray your carbide burr and piece with a little WD-40 to keep your carbide from clogging up with aluminum!!
So rad!
Super cool build! I hope your going to make a nice version of the intake now you know it works well. Probably worth doing first, if your going to go to the trouble tuning and balancing the carbs. Really make the engine Sing!!!😃 And sort out that ticking sound!
Great content thanks for sharing
hey dude, you can adjust that area of fuelling with either the position of the accelerator pump arm (on the throttle lever near where the cable goes) or but changing the needle position. but if you change your needles it will effect afrs at cruise also. So sick to see you on the flat slides man!
I agree with the two guys who mentioned balancing/synch-ing the carbs. I'd be shocked if they weren't wildly different. You can buy a fancy big dollar tool. Or you can make a DIY synch with plastic tube, 2 stoke oil and yard sticks.
The bike build is sick. Makes me want to build a new bike. Would love to see some bmx stuff on the channel as you get back into it! Rad video as always 🤙🏻
coolest car
Not sure if anybody has brought it up yet but FCR carbs are notorious for a slight hesitation on tip in. The cheap but reliable way to help that hesitation is called the zip tie mod basically it stops the accelerator pump from being progressive and makes it a one-to-one ratio I won't get into the specifics of how to do it easier just to Google FCR carb zip tie mod
Hell yes fcr!
I was so hyped up to see you build up a new bike! I might not have a cool race car but I’ve got an awesome bike so I can relate to that 😂😂
Pro tip for grinding carbide, spray some lube on it before you start jam tha alu, it wont get clogged and it cuts alot faster
Awesome video as always! Def my fav KZread builder. Always showing us the details. Would have been cool to see you at the LZ tour and Ebisu with the boys.
heyy I made it in the video !

Taylor you might want to check valve lashing with the clacking sound, it follows with rpm, at least that's what I hear
