AE Live 20.1 - Teaching Listening: Helping Students Be “All Ears” for English

Presenter: April Salerno
Being “all ears” is an English idiom that means "to listen carefully and attentively." Unfortunately, research indicates that amid pressures to teach other language skills (speaking, reading, and writing), listening instruction is often overlooked. Moreover, modern listening instruction requires more than developing effective listeners in conversation and lecture settings. Today's students must learn to be multimodal listeners: able to make sense of a variety of online and technology-based audio resources. Today, we'll explore listening pedagogy with a goal of more than just bolstering students’ listening abilities-we'll think about how to help learners apply their listening skills in support of becoming better speakers, readers, and writers. In this webinar, we'll examine several exciting listening instructional strategies, so get ready to help students become “all ears” for multimodal English content!
