This guy just suggested, “Buy groceries for a black person this week.” My god...This entire ideology is so patronizing and racist. It demeans successful black people and pushes white people born into poverty into-understandable-defensiveness that is now assumed to be simple racism. My family was the only white family in a neighborhood in the south that happened to be all black. It was what we could afford and what the rest of the community could afford. Do you know how offended they would’ve been if I had bought them groceries or apologized for my “privilege” while clearly living in the same environment that they did? (Not to mention the fact that I couldn’t have even afforded to buy them groceries.) Only the truly financially privileged and sheltered could believe in this.

I honestly wonder if this is some sort of mental weakness, hatred motivated or is it simply social media addiction that makes people jump on that incredibly racist trend. Social media is a nightmare for giving a voice to every single person and people have forgotten what humility is, they weight their worth by the number of likes and I think that this is sth that got the snowball to the present size

@@davidchavez1330 how am I being racist by pointing out the existence of racism? How has anyone black asserting power had any effect on your life? Systemic racism is things like Jim Crowe, not giving former slaves their 40 acres and a mule, redlined districts, non access to loans and neighborhoods, the disparity in policing and prosecution. Saying that America has skeletons and hoping we can move forward the right way is not being racist. Pointing out racism in our systems is not racist. Other groups not being targeted jumped on the safe bandwagon but they were not making laws to hold people of color back as a priority. No one is attacking you personally, it's a deliberate system that needs rethinking in the 21st century.

sadly even black people tried to make peace and that's what the 60 s were about. But white people since they had more power during that time kept killing them off and prevent them from making a change. White people also created racism, and never fixed the problem. Not only to black people but white folks were often in denial of other races racism experiences, some even think that racism doesn't exist. Now it's backfiring at them, should they come here complaining.

I understand that it will not always be reciprocated, but that’s not on me. Racism is something that has always and likely will always be a part of this imperfect world. It’s part of every culture and every race. The answer is not more racism in the guise of some social justice cause. Be polite. Respect authority. You talk about white america giving up their privileges but from what I've been told my white privilege is that I do not face boundaries because the color of my skin. Is the implication then that I should be held back because the color of my skin? You say to go grocery shopping to decrease the burden on a black family. Is that because I have more? Should a poor white family give what they have to a black family? What work are we moving forward? What is it we're building? All I'm gathering from this video is that I need to give my money to the black community, grab a sign, and stand in the crowd.

I grew up poor in a broken home, alcoholic violent father, divorced when I was 3. Lived with my grandmother to have food and clean clothes. Barely graduated high school. Woke up one day at 18 and said now or never. Took out student loans, went to community college, transferred to a university got an engineering degree, graduated with honors working my butt off. What's funny is I never got an opportunity because of skin color. I worked as hard as I possibly could. I've actually had a couple things go against me because of skin color. To me that just meant time to find a better company to work for. Nowadays the corporate PC culture is completely out of hand. Engineers tend to be Asian, Indian & White. I don't know why that is?? I know Asians value education and push it on their children. I know for technical fields you need to be strong in math and science. Now some schools are saying math is racist. That's odd because we couldn't have houses, bridges, cars, electricity, cell phones etc without it. Go figure that one?? Glad I'm on the tail end of my career because everything is getting absolutely ridiculous. Is NFL (68% black) & NBA (74% black) racist? Do we need to level the playing field for sports now or just academics? How do we get more minorities stronger in STEM subjects? Maybe it's like saying how do we make white people taller for basketball?

My real feelings are if people want to be segregated they should be free to do so! If they feel unsafe for good reasons that are factual and valid in the real world there shouldn't be anyone stopping them. This is supposed to be a free country. It's not free if diversity makes certain races targets of hate!

This a parody, right? This is part of his reel for "Saturday Night Live?" If I might make a suggestion, this ain't nearly crazy enough. You need more crazy, like buy a black person a car, then a house, maybe even a horse, take the power from all those white guilt ridden lawmakers (I think they're mostly Democrats), change the voting laws so minority's one vote counts as 10. You're gonna have to try harder if you're going for "not ready for prime time players." I'm pullin' for you. ;-)

Waking up and thinking about race and racism etc is just as bad as pretending it doesnt exist. It will always exist and will never go away. So stop focusing on guilting people and having everyone else looking at theirselves and fix yourself. Everything he says is just buzz words and full of no substance. I am not gonna go out of my way to help someone just becuase their race. I would do it because they need help and seem to be struggling. The injection of race in everything , in my opinion, only creates more division and racism. It's not gonna be some peaceful talking and "hard" discussions.

And as a result, what SHOULDN'T BE, unfortunately IS. I agree with you that 'Kids (can) teach us, if we pay attention', but too many people don't even think they have to pay attention. Kindergarten can teach you how to treat others until you're blue in the face, but if your home environment and even community foster misconceptions about OTHER groups and THEIR intentions, different forms of discrimination will take its effect in some way and on some level.

I've been binge watching videos about anti-racism trying to learn about it, and for some reason I'm like a dozen or so videos in and I feel like I have learned nothing. There is nothing of substance in any of these videos. What am I specifically doing all the time as a white person that makes me racist, or "not-anti-racist"? What specifically should I be doing that is anti racist? I also find the very name of this movement confusing. Apparently the opposite of anti-racism isn't actually racism, it's "not being anti-racist", because being "not racist" isn't actually enough to not be racist. But if you say you're not sure about all this anti-racist stuff, they accuse you of being racist. Honestly I'm starting to think this whole thing is a huge society-scale gaslighting attempt.

It's like you didn't even watch the video. He said specifically that it's not primarily about societal attitudes. I don't subscribe to the "racism is prejudice plus privilege so black people can't be racist" theory but any honest appraisal of the situation can see that black people are more adversely affected by racism from white people in America than vice versa. That's by virtue of the fact that there are more white people than black to begin with and that white people have more financial and political power per capita. For instance, as a white person, what are your chances of not getting a job because a black person discriminates against you? Significantly lower than for a black person being discriminated against by a white person. I would imagine that his advice to everyone - white, black or otherwise - would be to treat everyone with equal respect and consideration but it's more important that that message get through to white people because they are coming from a position of power and their actions have a greater potential to negatively impact the lives of others. Your comment comes across as an attempt to excuse your own racism because there are some black people who don't like white people. I don't think that those black people should think that way but, when your ancestors were literally treated as property and worse than animals in some cases and your immediate family and even yourself have been discriminated against time and again, a certain level of resentment should be understandable. At least black racism is often based on actual actions of actual white people and not just an assumption that they are better because of their skin colour.
