Advertising for E-Waste, Small Recycling Business

Basic hint's & tips on advertising, getting clientele and general day to day e-waste recycling thoughts and pick up examples.
Check out my recommended safety products, Furnaces & stuff on amazon.. www.amazon.com/shop/ewasteben
I get many requests for advice on how to start a small e-waste recycling business, I try my best to pass on what I can but just like any small business, if it's something you want to do then you need to do your own research.
Main thing is to just make a start, read up online, search for your local companies and see what they do, make up some good flyers and start pumping them out, try get some web presence and go for it, it takes time but if it's something you want to do and are willing to work hard at it, in a year or so you could have yourself a good honest business of your own.

Another great vid Ben - thank you. One thought to leave with you. I belong to a couple of business clubs in my area and get a lot of referrals from the members. Some times I'm picking up directly from them. But frequently, I'm picking up from people they've recommended me to. That word of mouth you were talking about. They've even started bringing stuff to the meetings to give me.

All those 386 and 486 machines, i would of salvaged all the parts, you have a few hundred dollars worth of video and sound cards, memory , cd roms, floppy drives, hard drives, IO's, power supplies. Some of those video cards if they still work, can go anywhere from $200-$400 each, some sound cards if they still work can go for hundreds. Vintage PC from the 286, 386, and 486 are great for vintage gaming. if you got the complete set, these machine can go for thousands. If you refurbish those vintage computers, you'll make more than what your scraping period.

You've got a business mind about things and you are passionate about it. A lot of electrical stuff from the 90's are long gone, they will never be made again and so they will be collectibles in the future. Great stuff

I am so happy to see that you are saving vintage computers from getting scrapped as well as taking precautions on destroying clients' data responsibly. I love collecting high-end vintage/retro computers (mostly Pentium II and older) as well as old servers. I definitely should start doing e-waste pickups once I get my drivers license. Hopefully I can get more stuff than I currently do from the curbs as well as when I do computer maintenance at my school. Great job. I think all scrappers should be responsible for saving retro/vintage equipment

Very, very cool pickups, Ben! It's been my dream to grab some blade servers like this. I would love to see what ends up being inside whatever you end up scrapping mainly because I find them all to be a little different and every bit as interesting as the last. I've started a minor business but since I'm moving to another state in the US, I've had to put it on hold. But the good news is, is that I already have a contract with a company that has a ton of stuff left from an old software company.

Great video Ben! I'm new to scrapping and found that your videos are very Informative and well explained! I'm attempting to do the same in my area (advertising my e-Waste pickup) and found that simple wording just to make people aware of what e-Waste actually is, is simply I take anything with a cord or battery. That seems to really dumb down a lot of questions people may have of "will you take this or will you take that", does it have a cord? yes, I'll take it! :)

hey Ben, I'm planning on starting an ewaste business however whats holding me back is the amount of plastic/trash I have after I scrap computers/electronics/household equipment. How do you dispose of the trash(wood/plastics/boxes, etc.) that build up from scrapping?

  • @cyberdan1000

    @cyberdan1000

    3 жыл бұрын

That is what is holding me back from going into scrapping more. The closest metal recycler is is a 1.5 hour drive in the good months. Two hours in bad weather. So I did not plan scrapping ferris items and that means almost everything including computers. But, I just ran across a company in town that has two big dumpsters out front. They encourage everyone in the county to drop off all metals. They do not pay but it now gives me the opportunity to get rid of all my steel waste. They will let me put some plastics in the bin but no wood or boxes. No TV sets either but my local trash transfer station will let me drop off TVs at no cost. (corrugated cartons too)

don't destroy them! take apart. the logic board on the back and the aluminum case bring good $$. The only parts that your customers should worry about are the platters. Pull them and when you get enough bend then in half and hit with big hammer. No one will ever be able to retrieve anything off them. Now throw in the aluminum pile, more $$

So I'm wondering, is this your full time job? I'm a teenager, I don't work full time, and I scrap stuff here and there. When I get my own, car I plan to pick up more scrap and ewaste, but I want scrapping to be a side thing, because I plan on actually getting a full time job. So what I'm asking is, is it feasible to pick up the amounts of waste you do, and at the same time, hold a legitimate job as an adult?

well it could be, you just need to find a source for regular scrap so once you have enough you don't advertise anymore. also there's scrap on the streets, maybe that's what you gotta look at, like tv's etc

  • @eWasteBen

    6 жыл бұрын

That's exactly what I would of said to you, build up a good reputation with your neighbours, even take other recyclables like scrap steel & aluminium cans, it all adds up. Remember your neighbours also work and some have businesses so over time you might also get to recycle at their place of work, like they may of upgraded computers, printer etc, letting them know your willing to pick up e-waste from businesses or other people they know will be the start of spreading your wings, good luck and focus on the recycling aspect, always telling them how you will be recycling and keeping everything out of landfill.
