    Yeah, fear is an important emotion after all. It's there to protect us from dangerous situations, but sometimes our brain gets confused and starts to think that even the most harmless things could be dangerous...that's when healthy fear turns into anxiety.

    that's how fear really is though, it helps you keep safe but if we didn't even know what to expect in the first place, we're just gonna curl up and hide from anything at all times because we didn't really know what is around us anyway.

    At chapter 3 where it says "ONE ENDING IS VERY, VERY BAD." actually got my anxiety working real bad when I played. I was so scared that the protagonist would die horribly. I got the good end luckliy, and now that I see the only difference was if the protag broke her leg or not... not her becoming a pile of meat or something. That was a true relief. This game's creator is a genius.

    This game is a masterpiece. Just wish they added how when you have social anxiety, that it keeps reminding you of past mistakes you've made when you end up in a similar situation. or how being surrounded by people makes you think everyone is watching you and talking about you even though you tell yourself it's not true Just an example: *you made someone feel awkward around you before* +someone talks to you+ social anxiety: "oh no, remember what happened that time, better not be weird or else" anxiety: "oh no, you look different. everyone is staring at you. oh no, you better hurry up so we can escape. oh, we are taking too long; FASTER, FASTER YOU IDIOT!" sorry about this, just some thoughts. overall great game idea

    I loved that detail about the cute redhead - it shows that anxiety isn't something you can readily see just by looking at someone. They could appear as if they have everything together and their life is great, but on the inside their pain is huge. I'm an outwardly happy-go-lucky person so most people are shocked when they hear I have anxiety and depression.

    My favorite part is that when his/her/their anxiety animal is shown, their red hair changed to black. Just like the hoodie on the protagonist and the bow on the crush, they always have their anxiety with them. And not just that; it's constantly on their head! (Or you could say, on their mind.) Takes the "living in my head rent-free" phrase to a whole new level.

    I think the portrayal of anxiety is perfectly done. I think it’d be way too easy to jump into the whole “Anxiety bad, look how bad my life is” theme, but it portrays anxiety as it is, just a sincere, sometimes overpowering, misunderstanding with your thoughts. And I’m glad that it doesn’t portray all negative emotions as bad, they’re there for a reason after all. Overall: Awesome game. We need more like this.

    @@Stick_and_stone Well, that really depends on how you look at it. I personally don't think the game is romanticising anxiety, however, I can agree that it is a bit oversimplified. But you can't really fit everything into a simple interactive story that still has to get the message across. Especially something *this* complicated

  • @artlover5060

    @artlover5060

    @@gonepoofed I think it's the exact opposite of oversimplified. It's really well shown, especially with the fourth wall break. A typical interactive game will just keep the player restricted to the logic of the game which won't be much help in the real world. But in this game, the game is honest, and even bittersweet. It challenges popular sayings like "Make peace with your emotions" and shows how easily it falls apart or how easily it can be twisted into mean something completely opposite of what was intended. It shows that it's possible to change what your current reality is, but it's not easy. It'll take years. Which might sound very discouraging to many people with anxiety or other mental illnesses. But the game says it anyways, even it might hurt, but it's still true.

I have an innate, probably irrational dislike of strangers. I remember my mum bringing over a date and he cooked for us, and I only started eating until I saw him eating it too, so I knew it wasn't *poisoned* The second time he came over I had some anxiety attack, I moved most of my bedroom furniture to barricade my door, and spent the whole night sitting on my bed with my pocket knife out. This was actually a really great take. Some people’s anxiety is born from trauma, like mine. Anxious invasive thoughts and actions (don’t go out, you’re irritating them, ect) are like the adopted shelter dog that had a really shitty previous owner and reacts the only way they know how, since it’s what they did to survive. A lot of my nastier invasive anxious thoughts were because my mom is very judgmental and abrasive and screams a lot at me and the rest of my family. But my anxiety is still in survivor mode even though things are a bit better now, so it still begs me to not go out, to not waste money, to just stay safe in bed and sleep. Things are different, but the shelter dog is still in survivor mode. I’ll never get be able to get rid if my anxiety forever. Not even medication can stop it, because pills aren’t magic. But I’m slowly working on calming that fearsona down with baby steps. Like the wolf said, it’ll take a long time, but like the human said, small steps are important. I’m not better, but I’m doing way better than I was years ago when things were really bad. Thanks for playing this.

After when i actually try to talk and sympathize with them and use my own experience to tell them the horrible feelings i had when they do the samething to me. I connect with them better and actually help them see the negativity of the family situations. It took a long time to finally change their general behaviour and a lot of courage to ignore my anxiety (I try to do so by listening to it, write it down to organize it and do research to points out which part is irrational and makes no sense and which part is valid) They are some who's still in the gutter in my family but I'm proud to say that I've gained enough allies to be ok with myself and are capable of ignoring most social attacks through seeing them not as a person who has something against me but has something against themselves.

    All I can say that anxiety does tire out. At least since I got to 30 years it attacks much less severe than it did when I was 18. The way to deal with it is just not to fight it and not to try and fix it, cause you most defenitely will make mistakes. You need to manoeuvre around it, make sime reeeeaaally baby steps ("we will not go to the party, we will walk near the place it is once", "we will not talk to that interesting person, we will watch how they behave and talk to others", and so on), integrate and not alienate it. Take your time listening to it after stressful situation until it has nothing more to say. And after a while (QUITE a while) it will calm down. I was scared to death of parties for instance. People, sounds, movements, social activities - parties were literally hell to me. Now I can at least be there talking with some people and while I feel that my wolf is moving in my head and whispering stuff it's not screaming and frightening me with (im)possible futures. It knows that I will listen to it after party and that if all hell will break loose I will give it enough control to get me out of there ASAP.

    The using alcohol to escape the anxiety really stuck with me….I’ve suffered from HORRIBLE anxiety, OCD, and CPTSD for nearly two decades. The way I coped with it was excessively drinking every weekend and even eventually drinking every night. I was 14 when I started stealing alcohol. It wasn’t until I almost took my life two years ago after a really bad fight with my (now ex) girlfriend and drinking a butt load, that I quit cold Turkey for almost 6 months. Only recently have I been able to have a couple of drinks every so often without feeling like I’m using it as a scapegoat. This game really represents anxiety so well and I just wish I could play it completely blind, but I’m glad I got to watch this video

Being a yes man may as well be the same as the wolf who always says no. Its not always something you live for, but its definitely something you live with and learn how to live with. Him and I, I guess had a long time cuddling after this and talking and I guess I just wanted to say, thank you. We’re not perfect we’re young sure, but so long as I can help others in a way that isn harmful to none I’ll be thanking all. As someone who went and had a breakdown a few weeks ago at work and everyone saw it, I get it. I really, really do. The worst thing it that because anxiety is so all-consuming, it also becomes so much harder to recognise a momemt when you're feeling happy too because just thinking about it can make you feel anxiety over the next time you might start feeling anxiety. The best thing to do, I find, is to try and think of any little moment of happiness or success you've experienced in the past, no matter how far back. Just pick something simple like, I dunno, that time you received a random compliment, or maybe you thought of something cool and creative once, or you enjoyed some nice food, or you randomly came across a good song-- and then just remember that a moment like that can happen to you again at practically any time. It doesn't necessarily prevent breakdowns, but it can help you to work your way down from one and encourage you to keep going afterwards, mostly because it frames the world as more than just a constant series of disasters waiting to happen.

    @@conspiracypanda1200 thank you for this comment. really. first of all, I really hope you're okay now. Dealing with a breakdown is so mentally exhausting and I can't imagine how much worse it felt when having to go through that hell in public. It honestly sucks when instead of focusing on yourself, you're more focused on how others are viewing you at that moment. Its stupid and sucks fucking ass. I've never knew something so simple could be the resolution/helping hand to a breakdown. I don't think this ever crossed my mind as something that could work me down from one. Despite the shitty moments in my life, there's definitely some good and cherishable ones that I never wish to forget until the end of time. I love eating good food with my friends. I love going to book shops and enjoying time with myself. I love when someone notices my haircut or compliments my outfit. This was so simple yet so effective, thank you for your comment. Anxiety is seriously one hell of a bitch, but I constantly remind myself that the bad feelings will pass, it always does. I hope you're having a nice day or night, wherever you are! This and Celeste did a good job with how handling difficult emotions can be handled. They are their own coping mechanisms we made to protect ourselves. Silencing and hating them is in turn hurt ourselves. These emotions grow with us and we can’t get rid of them. But if we really listen and take care of them, we can start learning how to better use them. When they are and are not useful. And thank them for existing to try to protect us. And learn that every thought and feeling isn’t always reality.
