Göta kanal goes to the Baltic sea; together with Trollhätte kanal it cuts through Sweden. It was supposed to help avoid pesky Danish tolls on trade from England to Russia or whatever. When finished, the toll was gone and railways also made it obsolete!

That's awesome that they used it to avoid Danish tolls hahaha. Thank you for sharing that information, that's wonderful! 😁 You're railway system is so impressive. I hope to get to ride in some more areas when I get back.

I agree, doors that open outwards are safer, and save space indoors. You can, if you want, place a wardrobe or a hanger of some sort close by the door.

Having a wardrobe or hanger by the door is definitely something I always like to have.

Also makes the door harder to kick in

Haha, that's fun! If you haven't discovered our comedian Robert Gustafsson yet, you must. "The letter ö in Swedish can be written as a hole with two small pricks on top!" Great genuine Swedish background music as always!

Yes, you absolutely have to come back. You've missed out on so much because you're here during the off-season and a lot of things are unfortunately closed. Maybe a little bit better research on opening hours too😉! ATB.

Doors opening inward is just so strange to me. Imagine a car with doors swinging inwards.. If we ignore the obvious problem with space, it would also be hard to get a good seal from wind and rain. The same applies to a house but not as extreme.

That's a fair point about the weather seal! I hadn't thought about that.

I have been told that outside doors swing inward so that they can be blocked more easily, for security. It is much easier to stop a door opening inwards with your foot and body than try to pull one closed. That doesn’t explain why all doors open inwards though.

Ö in Örebro: Consider "ea" as in earl as an option too, the prortion before the "r" is starting to be heard. Sadly the ö is pronounced differently in differerent words, hard to suggest a fixed rule...

One of my Swedish friends went through all the ways that ö can sound like. I find it fascinating that there are so many ways to pronounce one thing.

@@candytechadventures and then there's the dialectal variations... It's so hard to explain that "ö" sound, it's hard to think of an english equivalent. You say it in a decent way in the beginning of "earl" or (g)irl but we have a hard time explaining what part we mean is "decent". It's only the part before you start to lift the tip of the tounge to the transition into an "r" that is the "ok part". The the tounge lower than in "earl" initially and it would help :-)

So much of Sweden is just absolutely lovely to drive through! Do you know where about you want to go such as major destinations? I can see what was around the areas that I went to. Definitely recommend stopping in Vadstena and staying at the hotel there that's the old monastery. Near by there are stunningly serene and breathtaking ruins of another old monastery you could do as a day trip while stay in Vadstena. I recommend spending more than 1 day there.

@@candytechadventures Vadstena is on the list. I loved the little walks you took, especially the troll forest! Are there any rest stops as you drive on the motorway? We would probably prefer to stop at small towns but driving on the main road is necessary as we are driving to Copenhagen from Stockholm. Thanks for sharing your adventures!

You will absolutely love Vadstena, and you should absolutely try to go see the Alvastra ruins that are near by there. The troll forest is so beautiful! Some parts of the motorway have stretches where you don't see too many stops, but for most of the areas we drove through you could find gas stations and some rest areas as well. A lot of parts had little pull over areas on the side of the road as well so that you have a safe area to pull over and say stretch or let a dog out to pee. Do you have an idea yet of which road ways you will be taking from Stockholm to Copenhagen? Also feel free to email me (I'm pretty sure my email or an email option is on the channel) for more info with a faster response time hahah. I'm not the fastest at replying to comments on the channel even though I wish I was.
