Adventure Awaits in the Arizona Mountains - Part 2

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My son and I are in the midst of a 9 day overland adventure and we are now on our second leg of the Centerforce Adventure Run 2021 where we continue to explore the Arizona desert and mountains. On this section of the trip, we depart Crown King and set off to tackled the trail of Turkey Creek, visit the old gold town of Cleator, and then begin our trek on a section of the Great Western Trail. Along the way we conquer some challenging obstacles, find some breathtaking scenery, setup camp in a great location and enjoy some great camp cooking and comrade around the fire. #arizona #overlanding #jeepwrangler

  • @johnkemple

I am an automatic person. I drove manuals all my life. So I have had both, However there is one thing people do not mention when making the argument for a manual. People may not think about the fact that an automatic trans adds heat to the cooling equation. In the desert, in the heat, climbing hills in low gear at slow speeds manuals do not add any load to the cooling system. This can be quite important in vehicles depending on air movement to cool the transmission. This really can be amplified when talking about older vehicles. I still think the automatic is superior in many situations, though not all. But manuals have no lines to break, almost never spring leaks on the trail, so there is that aspect to add to the equation. love your videos.

My Jeep buddy's always picked on my 4cyl. Scout 80, but I always would shut them down with, "Ok but you lead the way, and I'll follow. When you get stuck, i'll pull you out. And another thing all you old timers may remember Granvill King from 4Wheeler Mag, He always said, "Keep your thumbs out of the steering wheel spokes, and keep you left foot off the clutch, and drive elegant". Right on Granny.

I have been on many trail rides and on damn near everyone of them, everyone gets pushed becouse a time or destination has to be met in a certain time. Herd mentality. Now I am getting older I don't hang with the crowd that is pushing. I have learned to slow down take natures beauty in and relax and have alot less breakdowns and stress with something that should be enjoyed. Everything in nature lives in harmony in it's own speed. Since I have taken this approach I start seing things I have missed.

That Hemi V8 would tow your trailer like butter! Manual vs Auto... For me, I usually need to drive for 6/8+ hours to get to decent 4X4 trails. This is where the automatic trans earns its salt. Especially if theres traffic. Yes, its a tradeoff. I actually grew up driving a manual. Bought my first 4WD in 1979. Chevy Luv! Still wish I had that truck...

Great video! But Brad, you should cross the chains to your trailer. The main reason, is that "some day", "something" might happen, and the trailer tongue comes loose from the receiver. If that happens, the crossed chains will grab the tongue like a catchers mitt and keep it from hitting the ground. Worst case, that happens on the highway. Would be nice to have a 'back up' in case things come apart, that way, no damage is done. I caught this at the 7:54 mark. Hope that helps, rock on brother!
