They put a post on github basically registering interest for Ryzen AI to have a Linux port. It'll get their eventually, but for now you're either stuck with CUDA or using CPU for running AI workloads at a fraction of speed you can get with an Nvidia GPU. Intel, AMD, Apple and Arm CPU manufacturers need to catch up on software front mainly, Nvidia hardware is nothing extraordinary.

When the Ryzen 5 2400G came out in early 2018, it was already impressive because it was capable of playing most games at 1080p without a discrete GPU. Of course, the games that launched since then have become much more graphically demanding than the games at the time, but it did essentially what the 8000G CPUs are probably gonna do. I don't think the iGPU will be powerful enough to play games like Cyberpunk or Hogwarts Legacy fluently at 1080p with high graphics settings, but you'll have to go down to either medium or low graphics settings, like you did with the 2400G at the time. But it worked, and of course you could play less demanding titles at higher settings, so it's still a great option for entry-level gaming.

The biggest 8000G with DDR5-7600 should get a usable experience in Cyberpunk at 1080p Low with AFMF enabled. For Alan Wake II and Avatar I'm not so certain though... But if you're on a budget so tight you'd go for an APU, then buying games that are still $30-40 is probably ruled out anyway.

Hawk Point has an NPU (so the Ryzen 8000G for desktop and 8000U/H/HX for laptop) of 16 TOPS. When combined with the iGPU's INT4 capability that turns out to 34 TOPS in total. This makes for a handy little office machine on Desktop that can do Copilot, some light Adobe Firefly stuff and still have an iGPU that can do basic video editing. This is practically speaking the perfect CPU for the people who manage companies social media accounts. The people who will want a full-kahoot CPU with an NPU, but who also have no need for a dedicated GPU, will be almost zero. There is no point in making that product. If you want enough TOPS to beat the ever living snot out of Hawk Point it's called the RX 7600. With 32 compute units, at significantly higher clocks than the 12 compute units in Hawk Point, you're looking at the north of 52 TOPS.

Is it just me or did they use some generative gaze correction / eye contact that removed most, if not all, natural eye movement and blinking on some of these people, making them look unnecessarily creepy and putting them on the edge of the uncanny valley? Correct me, if I'm wrong, but some of them talk for minutes at a time without blinking once, while their hollow stares impose themselves onto yours. Either that's an impressive feat of playing "blink and you lose", questionable editing, or it's manipulated to remove the eye movement typical while reading queue cards or teleprompters. Some of what is said sounds like it was generated with LLMs, trained on this type of content, specifically. It's just creepy to me. I mean, they clearly use these solutions to do various things in the video, e.g. I suspect that the wonky rotoscoping on the main presenter is one of those. Does it follow that other techniques could be employed to maybe demonstrate what a consumer-grade accelerator can do? That could have been a talking point, but it wasn't. Anyway, I'd be surprised, if I were far off on this.

As an owner of the Radeon HD 7990 (AMD's last dual GPU card) I'm not so certain that the time is right. RDNA3 has only split off the memory controllers and cache into "side hinged" chiplets, but the main GCD still handles PCIe, media engine, and critically: dispatch. Until AMD can "glue together" a chiplet approach where some kind of I/O die (think the Ryzen approach, but without the memory controller) can be attached to an arbitrary number of compute chiplets, that each in turn are connected to memory controllers and cache, I don't think building huge GPUs is financially viable for the consumer.
