I'm young and it is evident in my riding. I'm 17 and have been on the road for 18months now. I've had 4 accidents in this time and I would say 2 of them were 100% my fault and 2 of them were less than 50% my fault. From watching countless numbers of videos I feel my riding has improved before I even get back on the road. Before I would be doing 85mph down a lane with cars on my side of the road, now i will deffinately change my lane position and speed.... These videos really opened my eyes !!!

The first thing I learned when teaching myself how to ride (yes- it was a very stupid thing to do) was TRUST NO ONE AND NOTHING. Paranoia was the only way I lived to continue riding after my first stupid mistake of trusting people to be predictable. Oddly, the most dangerous obstacles weren't cars in my experience (they move slowly enough to be predictable) but pedestrians. I'm only talking about the obstacles in front of me. The idiots coming at me from behind I had no control over.

the dangerous bit is he nearly got knocked off !!! thats coz the rider behind was: 1/far too close and 2/the rider infront brake alot harder than what was needed. top tip, brake as soft as SAFELY possible, coz if ur rear-ended, your gonna be alot worse off, esp its a car behind

I'm a new biker and videos like this help me to learn how to deal with the odd things UK roads throw at you at any time. I recently went out followed by an experienced biker who gave me pointers of what I was doing wrong, including riding too close. Then the other day I found out why tailgating is so bad-a driver stopped suddenly in front of me because he was having a row with his missus- had I been closer I would have ended up in his boot! Keep up the good work and ignore the moronic comments.

What happens next? The 'advanced' biker almost goes into the back of the other guy, but ends up almost undertaking him insted.

@advancedbiker If only there were more road users that like you, are able to see point in peoples criticism on their tailgating. I have posted many comments on other videos about peoples tailgating, and the only response i get is arrogant, childish back chat from thes people saying things like "im confident and competent enough to tail that close". Its good that you have acknowledged the error in your following distance and made changes.

@BLACKSHACK16 No amount of experience would have made you aware of the hidden sheep. This is the key issue when speeding motorists say 'It was perfectly safe, a clear, dry road with nothing on it'. Then a deer appears out of thin air. There's no such thing as a safe road.

Can't believe some of the comments on here. The instructor's cam clearly shows that the sheep are obscured by the car in front right up until the very last second. The car's indicator is obscured by the rider who is positioned for the overtake. They're both preparing for the overtake and once accelerating they both immediately have to brake hard to scrub off that speed. I imagine the instructor is well aware that there can be sheep on the moors but I very much doubt he has X-Ray vision.

@okbye1 Fairly common. Most livestock tends to be fenced in (cattle, pigs, horses for example), but sheep are often to be found grazing freely around the countryside. Certainly around my way in Lancashire & the Lake District.

Nigel , where you met the sheep is a newish coffee shop , check it out , ie , big pieces of cake and if you are in the area ,check out The Bake House , cake shop in Whaley Bridge , in centre of the town , safe riding.I am considering a tour od cake shops book to be available on line , haha

The whole idea of the video is to teach preperation for the unexpected. From the observations of the video; the lead motorcyclists has left plenty of room to stop. The camera bike always rides staggered to the lead biker, (therefore increasing the stopping distance and better observation) The car driver has also signaled right when there is no right turn he also moved over to the offside. Therefore all is safe and no accidents. sheep don't do the highway code either.

Two other things to consider about "Tailgating". Your view ahead is compromised and will not be improved, if at all, as effectively by moving your lateral position on the road, as it would if you were further back. If you are following an HGV or commercial vehicle, the situation is even worse. Remember, if you are unable to see the drivers' eyes in their door/side view mirrors, they will be totally unaware you are there. "Only a fool breaks the two second rule" . . . . . on a dry surface!

@R0o0g3r You've missed the point, it's not about what the instructor does to miss the other bike, it's about the SHEEP in the road. The moral of the story is to expect the unexpected and look forward, not to always avoid hitting the bloke in front of you.

Good video, to all the negative comments just read the title and description: The unexpected Everyone makes mistakes, the fact that nobody got injured will allow the riders/driver to learn from their mistakes, advanced training can only be positive. If you need an ego boost please keep your comments to accident videos, hopefully you can revise from them...

@Scythian1 Best bit of advice I was ever given whilst on a bike, treat EVERYONE like their a moron, most of the time, they are. I've been in tons of situations, and seen WAY too many idiots in my time, complete idiots, and the scary thing is they aren't even AWARE what their doing is wrong. But yeah, treat EVERYONE like their a total idiot, keep your distances, only filter STATIONARY traffic, keep your wits about you and your mind sharp, and you won't go far wrong. Most of all,WEAR LEATHER AND ARMOUR!!

Sheep behaving baaaadly ? they don't do the highway code. A simple thing to remember is where you see sheep on the hills (you do on the cat n fiddle) theres bound to be adventorous ones on the road. Where there are cows there's cowshit on the road. Read the roads and the terrain and you will survive, ride safely everyone.

I live in an area in Ontario Canada where Sheep arent a problem, but I have to watch out for Deer and Moose. A moose could really ruin your day.I am buying my first bike in the spring. I have already registered for a safety course. I believe it should be a manditory thing when first starting out. Thanks for the videos, Ive enjoyed them so far. Though I believe in Canada we cant do the fildering thing in traffic. Id have to check that.

Just think it's funny how the instructor tell the student, that the road ahead is clear. . Instead the instructor could say; "Check for clear road, and *___*___* if clear. Pointless to try and *walk the student through the road, when the student's actually in a better position to know. It's the *riding technique he's supposed to teach, not the road / current traffic-situation, am I right`?

  • @bidefordrfc

I guess sometimes the problem with being an instructor (I can only assume as I am not an instructor, yet I have been leading a less confident driving to a destination in the past) is that you are not just driving for yourself, you are driving (or in this case riding) for the "student" also. Therefore your concentration which would normally being 100% on what you are doing, is less as you are also trying to focus on what the other person is doing aswell...

  • @lettersquash
    @lettersquash14 жыл бұрын

Kudos for owning the mistakes, advancedbiker. Some have said that trainers ride very close, but they shouldn't. Riding to one side is not an option; the pupil should be moving around, so will be dead ahead often. "Unexpected" in this instance is precisely the error. ~1s gap? Also you were riding into the sun, following a car with a brake light out. Too many "Advanced" bike training videos seem to be about riding fast, not safely. He hammers it again after this, like those were THE sheep.

To all those "who know it all", I hope you live long enough to learn better. Hitting an animal with a car can ruin your day, hitting an animal with a bike can ruin the rest of your life, be it seconds or years. I've been riding bikes for 40 years & one thing I have learnt is you have to make allowances, not only for your own limitations, but for the limitations & mistakes of others as well. Just takes one mistake, doesn't matter whose, to kill you. NEVER FORGET THAT!

most instructors are totally scared of driving a motorcycle that's why they are so into safe, I would say TO SAFE driving. they are afraid of everything what surrounds them on road. people like that making a hazard perception tests, where everything totally everything is hazard, people on side walk on other side of road HAZARD, car parked aside HAZARD, bird in the sky HAZARD. on vid like this where is the hazard? curvy road as f... no chance to speed up, plenty of time to simply slow down, ehhh sorry Im a kat A and B driver since 12 years this is just make a smile on my face..."and what happend next..." NOTHING situations like 10000 everyday while Im on my way home from work.

What kind of "good" instructor perpetuates the belief that what they're doing is acceptable because of the type of vehicle they drive... obviously if they weren't tailgating they wouldn't have had an accident. Period. Tailgating is so insanely stupid. Period. Tailgate me and get rocks in your windshield or your facemask.
