Advanced Comic Coloring in Procreate
Ғылым және технология
It's been a while since I've posted a tutorial on this channel, well that all changes today. This is how I color comics in Procreate. I use the fill tool and also gradient brushes to add detail. I also go through things like combining layers and reference layers.

I returned my new surface pro to try the ipad pro because your videos sold me on it. I have to say, I don't regret it one bit, I absolutely love drawing with the apple pencil.
This has to be by far one of the best video tutorials I have seen on colouring in procreate. You explained everything in such a clear and concise way. You've really helped me out so much, thank you!!
There is a god! I have been looking for someone online who teaches as well as you do! I shall sign up for this course straightaway! Love ❤️ it!
the reference layer and alpha lock changes my whole procreate experience! Thanks for the tutorial
When you re-color the lines you can also just put alpha lock on and click "fill layer"
This tutorial is the reason I could finally paint properly ✨ I can't express in words on how thankful I'm for this tutorial. Wishing you grace!
7:00 - I can't believe I didn't know about color drop threshold! SUPER handy!

I found the color threshold by accident. My daughter had somehow fiddled with the setting and things were not filling properly anymore so I had to look into fixing it.
This was probably the most helpful video on Procreate I've seen yet,! So thank you !
Your tutorials have been extremely helpful for a new user like myself and I really dig your style. Keep up the great work and the videos coming.
Best video on Procreate features I’ve seen yet! Tons of new useful tricks I need to try out now.
I so needed this tutorial! I was flatting each and every shape and coloring it. Dang it was so tedious! I never knew about 'reference' option in procreate. Thanks a lot for for the tips. Helped me a ton!
This video made me be a subscriber! Love it! I love videos that teach me about procreate for drawing, painting, writing etc!!! Great info!
That was an amazing tutorial! Thank you so much for making that video. I have just started using Procreate with my apple pencil the last 3 weeks, and you have taught me everything I know!! I appreciate you taking the time to do this.
This is hands down one of the best tutorials I've ever seen...Procreate or otherwise. You're an artistic genius my friend :).
That's what the reference layer is for!!! So useful!
Man, ive been watching your vids lately..and it inspired me to go back to drawing..been busy with my accounting profession but i think its time to go back to my passion. Thanks man!
You're videos are so helpful! I am still semi-new to digital drawing as I use a Wacom tablet on my PC, however I wanted an All-In-One and you sold me on the iPad and now seeing how Procreate works...oh man tomorrow I am going to Apple and getting myself the 9.7" iPad and Apple Pencil. Keep up the amazing work!
Just got my first iPad and drawing app. This is my first video tutorial I found and I don't need to look any further! Thank you for the help
I love your channel sooooo much! Jusy bought myself a ipad pro for uni and thats mainly because i felt like i was so educated in procreate because of your videos thankyou so much
Hi Brad. I just watched your udem vid tutorial and I love it from the very first second! Great to get into all those Details! Realy worth the little buks! Ipad realy changed the game of digital artwork has to be like! Thanks! And keep on!
Man! Thanks a lot I got this awesome app for school but I couldn’t find a proper tutorial vid to learn from. This was very helpful for my character design class. Thanks so much!
You are the MAN!!! Exactly the coloring tutorial I needed. Many thanks! 💯
Wow fantastic tips and walk through, these are the kind of videos I have been really wanting to find! definitely a new subscriber I learned quite a lot, going to go binge some of your vlogs =D!
i had to pause in the middle of this vid just to thank you because a couple things i genuinely had problems with and youve saved me so much time!
Thanks for the tutorial. I really enjoyed. And thanks for the brushes they’re very helpful. 👍🏻
You're a lifesaver. Gonna get me that turorial bc I needs it.
Great tutorial Brad. Very clear instructions!
Good video. I have a different add gradient to the hair. If you selected the layer, (in this case the foreground color layer) using select from the layer menu, when you stamp the gradient down you would not need to use the eraser around the hair. It will only stamp in the selected area. I do this all the time now. I often use select, and make a new layer. Good for highlights and shadows too etc.

When you say stamp down, what do you mean? What are the steps?
Loved this tutorial but the link to the gradient brushes is broken.
Thank you for a terrific tute. I love Procreate - good to watch some pro-tips
This is the most informative procreate video I’ve ever watched it was a lot of help thank you sooo much
Nice video Brad 👍😉 i would love to see some more procreate tutorials
Dear Brad... thank you very much. I learned a lot. Reference layer was new... greetings from Germany.
The color fill adjustment thing is such a cool feature, it's the kind of useful stuff I've been wanting in digital art for years! PS seems so anti UX and oldschool in comparison to this next gen imo
That was really good video. I didn't even know the reference tool was there. My mind is blown. When I use alpha lock on a layer, I tend to tap the alpha layer and choose the fill layer. :) Thanks again dude.
I just learned the "alpha lock"-concept from this video! The world makes so much more sense now, thank you! (Using it on MyPaint on Linux, that programm has the feature, too)
Great tutorial, glad I found your channel
You know? At first I didn’t really like your videos but recently I started watching them more cause I ordered an iPad and I was interested in a lot of info and I sorta got used to you and now I really enjoy your content. Thanks for all of it.
you're one of my favorite youtubers
Awesome tutorial, learned a lot from this! :) When erasing the parts of your gradient that were outside the shapes, is there any reason you erased manually instead of using a clipping mask?
Thank you so much for these!! This they will help tremendously in my work!!!! I don’t know how to pay you back, so I at least subscribed and hit a like!
I really like your style Brad, nice video too :)
I love the colors you chose
Brad, thanks so much for your tutorials. They are fun too watch and very useful. I did the Udemy course and i think you are one of the better teachers;-) Thanks for the brushes tip! Keep up the good work, your work makes me a better artist;-)

Thanks! I really appreciate hearing that.
Why oh why didn't I watch this as soon as I started using Procreate?! I had no idea how to save colors so I wrote down their values....now that a pain it the.....and so time consuming. So thanks for this tutorial.
If you wanna do gradients, you can have color strips side by side with no space in between and then Gaussian blur them if u have them on the same layer and u get a smooth gradient
This is super helpful thanks!
I just got an iPad Pro and procreate and am interested in your udemy course. Will you be updating it when procreate 4.0 comes out? (Prob tomorrow) Thanks in advance!
Omfg THANK YOU!! That thing with the reference layer is going to save me sooooooo much time holy shit!
extremely helpful tutorial. Thanks!
Great Video Brad, next time could you get into using the selling tool for masking areas you want to apply gradients?
The reference layer is awsome! wish there was clipping mask layer though :P I wasn't sure I could use iPad professionally(pricey!!) but your tutorials and reviews gave me some hope to invest in myself!
I loved his procreate course. It really thought me a lot. 👌
THANK YOU for this tutorial, it helped me *so* much :)
This was super helpful thank you so much!
Love it...learning so much
I dont use the same program but this is a great tutorial to go back to when trying to remember how to color line work.
Omgosh thank you! I am always going through my pictures making sure every little line is connected, but ha no more!
This was so helpful, Thank you!
For deleting texture overflow, make colour reference layer, select colour, inverse selection and you have accurate area to erase on, faster?
Thank you, I have learned a lot with your video :)
This is great video. Thank you so much.
Personally, I prefer Autodesk Sketchbook's way of doing gradients, since it allows for more customisation, but I can really understand why you like Procreate's way of doing things, since I will concede that it is much simpler.
Thank you so much. This was extremely helpful :D
I was already sold on getting the Surface Pro 4 (Watched your iPad x Surface Pro 4 comparison) but now you're making me change my mind again. Hahaha!
Its cool, man! You always inspire
nice work Brad! thanks for an awesome tut :+1
super usefull tips! thanks for sharing! I'm especially happy to now understand the refference layer! It's going to save me alot of time rather than jumping in between layers and using automatic select on ink layer. quick question.. whats the difference between alpha locking your lines layer instead of just using "select" on it before recoloring the lines?
@chartflipper
6 жыл бұрын
Select (if you mean the automatic version) only takes a certain amount of the lines. The amount varies depending on the threshold you use and on how much the lines stick together. That can work, if you manage to select 100% of the lines' area. With alphalock you can be sure to have 100% "selected". Plus it's much faster.
@chartflipper
6 жыл бұрын
Oh - the selection method has one advantage - as I can see: When you use it for example on the "foreground colors" layer, you can select - for example - only the skin color. Once you have the selection, your added gradient wouldn't have to be trimmed into shape with the eraser.
Such a helpful video. Subbed.
really informative video... lol @ the initial title. Great job once again sir !! do you plan on reviewing the new tab s3 and galaxy books whenever they come out ?

You are the best! God bless you!
I wonder if you or someone could help me. I don't get the colour threshold bar at the top, and so my colour keeps bleeding all over the place. Is there a way to adjust it in the menu? Thank you
Brad where do I find the gradient brushes?
Is there a way to add those gradient brushes to the iPad app?
Can some one plz tell me why I shouldn't color in the sams layer as the inking layer?? And why you don't just duplicate the inking layer and Coker it?
@mukuimutunga9661
5 жыл бұрын
In case you make a mistake and want to erase or change your mind, if you colour on the inking layer, when you erase you'll also be erasing your inking. You could duplicate your inking layer and colour if you wish.
