I wish the player could control where Sturm's Meteor Strike hit. It's really cool seeing how you do things. I go about stuff so much differently (but not in a better way) though I like to think I'm not still too bad. Jess' theme also sounds like it'd fit in well in a classic Sonic game too. Kind of gives to me Metropolis vibes, among other things.

I'd just settle for Sturm's meteor being consistent! I think I actually like it being out of the Sturm player's direct control. It's fun to play around it on AWBW and feels more strategic for both sides than if Sturm just had a win button to destroy whatever army he felt like. My own advance wars play style has certainly changed over time of course. 5 years ago I was really good, but I would have had a different style than this.

IIRC, black cannons use a units true health so while a 9hp AA looks like it has 7.2k value which is more than 10 hp tank. A 88/100 HP AA has 7040 value and an 86/100 HP AA has 6880 value.

Ah ha. I'd been thinking it probably had to be something like that but I couldn't prove it. That hidden true HP is a really, really bad mechanic in my opinion. It magnifies the effect of luck in tons of engagements, and now with black cannons it means one can't predict them properly based on the viewable information.

I'm really looking forward to the second part to this video. How does he secure the victory!? I wanna know!

Yeah, in this game whenever you can choose a CO you pretty much always want it to be Max, Eagle, or Kanbei. Even tons of OP COs like Sensei don't see much use in the campaign because there's usually someone even better for the kind of mission objectives we get.

In your opinion, under normal play, would grit be a good option in the middle for extra range/power for artillery and snipe him out and cheaper units vs kanbei ... or would be kanbei in the middle, no questions asked?

I'm sure Grit would be workable, but Kanbei would definitely be better. Grit could do decently on one of the sides I think, shooting in with artillery or rockets to help Kanbei

@@Melth fair , but i find it terrifying that sturm is stronger than even kanbei with his power active with 40/40 units when kanbei has 30/30 ... i think the trick is to attempt to have samari spirit active when sturm activates his super power

@@alexszeborowski6578 I think the key thing to remember is that 140% times 0.6 (the defense of a Kanbei unit standing on a plains) is still only 84%. Meaning that even if you are standing on a plains and Sturm uses his super power, the damage he does by attacking is still smaller than what a normal CO would deal to a normal CO The upshot is, he can't break through your lines quickly, so it's nothing to panic about. The meteor part is the problem rather than the 140% attack. If that lands on a big chunk of Kanbei units on the front line, then even Samurai Spirit is useless to save those units and Sturm can break through and kill a lot of stuff

YOU FIEND! Although I suppose I would have done the same too. Besides, we do get to learn that Sturm, like any other dictator enemy, forgets to consider measures against direct attackers like Max, Eagle, and Kanbei.

@@alexszeborowski6578 I would usually do Kanbei in the middle, Eagle on the right. Eagle is great for getting a good power score of course since he can kill a ton of Sturm units with his super. And then either Sami or Max on the left. Max is better of course except that Sami can rush to and launch a missile in the early turns with her APC boost. If she and eagle both launch a missile in the early turns, that helps Kanbei a lot.

I know, right? It's so weird. Of course that burns less fuel that just staying dived. My best guess is that it's an anti-frustration feature meant to help the human player. They surface so that we have a way to keep track of them instead of having to guess. And they dive the other half the time so we keep the illusion that we're fighting a competent sub user instead of a submarine shaped punching bag waiting for us to kill it for free

I've been thinking about recording the next AW when I get back from my holiday trip However, this last month or so of Baldur's Gate videos has been the biggest opportunity I've had on this channel in *7 years*. Yeah- these aren't the worst COs in advance wars as a whole (Flak would be on the list for example) they're the worst COs available in the campaign, for this mission especially. There's no fog here, Sonja is just a liability with her bad luck and no way to use most of her other perks against the AI which ignores them anyway

Yeah, until Dual Strike added a bunch more female COs at all power levels (like Sasha and Kindle and Rachel) and buffed Jess and Lash, there really was a shortage of female COs who were effective. Still, a lot of them were developed characters (at least as much as any of the men in this cartoony and silly series) and I think that's the most important thing.

But Fire Emblem Awakening completely killed that with some of the worst written women I'd ever seen in a video game. I hated everything about that game's writing so much that I never played another fire emblem since

@@Melth what about fire embalm echoes . ? i think it was very well written, even if its bog standard . I am not gonna lie i almost cried playing that game, its super silly. i usually dont care about story in games, but this one touched. i dont know, maybe becuase of the war in real life, or the voice acting with quite good characters
