good footwork never gets old. I used to hate footwork drills a lot because they almost always left my calves and the arches of my feet very sore for a few days. Now I think footwork drills are the best! Not only do they make you quick on your feet, they are also some of the most applicable skills in sparring. And the light bouncing on the balls of your feet may very well be the best ankle conditioning exercise.

Theres a difference between traditional style and Olympic style sparring! Its in the footwork and training.

yeah and new school uses alot of cut kicks that can wreck these movements but because old school has sorta died out these techniques will psych out the opponent and can get the point, the mixture of both old and new, ying and yang!

A basic traditional Taekwondo side piercing Kick to the ribs from the front leg will crumble any attack from the back leg. Basic and effective against these back leg attacks. Most W.T.F fighters use 80% of the time, a back leg turning kick.

@DangerousDan2 you are totally right. I began in a very traditional, mostly hands-oriented martial art when I was 6. Switched to WTF TKD when I was 16. As you said, there is no contest as far as who can make contact first, with greater impact damage. Unless the TKD fighter is a clown from a bad school, it is an uphill battle for a hands-oriented fighter. If both are from the same quality schools, no contest.

-> boxing is vulnerable to kick to tigh, kick to inner tigh and take down, if your legs are weak, its very easy jujitsu fighter to take you down, when they dock, they do below the knees if you combine boxings upper defense, footworks and taekwondos fast kicks, shifting and sliding footwork, you form kick boxing or mixed martial arts

it like mixed martial arts (free style fighting) where you combine different forms of martials arts, if it is striking, you combine all striking arts like tkd, karate, kick boxibng, etc same thing with grappling or you can combine both grappling and striking

thunder strike gaming BJJ good yes I'm a white belt with one Stripe in that. I have learnt a few things from taekwondo I've been doing it for 3 years and I'm going for my black belt in April 23rd 2017 my test starts at 10 am for 5 hours. but I want to go into kickboxing but I want to get my black belt first in Taekwondo. taekwondo is very basic to be honest it's more about patterns, forms, and hand drills, but they don't really concentrate on the pad work and this has a knock on effect in people sparring.

@GTcO i know. when i sparred (for fun) with my friend who is a boxer, i countered his hook punch with a round kick (not full force) but he still dropped on the floor in fetal position and moaned. but i don't think if i would kick with full force that he would die, probably break a a rib or two and maybe internal bleeding

@KidsKicksforChrist 2 thumbs up for you i give you that. learning is endless. there is always new things that we can explore. when it comes to fighting very commonly used is hand. most tkd guys out there always compensating the speed of the hand using feet. kicking alone is definitely not an effective weapon for mechanical and intelligent fighter. we need to mix em up punches, fakes, take downs, grappling, etc. god bless =D

yes but my point is that you dont have to do away with moves just to mix martial arts. if for example i am a tae kwon do fighter with some boxing and wrestling. when i do a turn, it dosent mean i have to do a back fist in order to incorperate boxing. instead i would do my turn round house, then jab hook, uppercut. if i get taken to the ground thats where wrestling kicks in.

@UnitedBohol yes indeed pre, kasi ang punches travels a very short distance compare to kicks. studying taekwondo is good but studying more than one art like muay thai , kicking boxing, freestyle fighting better i love kicking, kaya lahat ng arts about kicking very interested ako dun then tapos pag combine mo ang taekwondo, kickboxing and muaythai in systematized manner magiging free style fighter na ang dating

  • @paolothemaster

@KidsKicksforChrist then try studying taekwondo for military if you really want to learn real figthing. there taekwondo is meant not only self defense, but primarily to kill, there kicks is very effective, undergone rigorous training. No rules, no excuses, no rooms for mistakes. what you see on this video is sport combat, it has rules and protective gears.

  • @paolothemaster

that it depends on the fighter. how well experience the fighter is. some tkd fighter can throw 4 to 5 kicks in the air. some boxer can throw 5 to 6 punch for 2 or sec. boxer is a closed range fighter tkd is mid to far range fighter

if your(5'7) fighting a taller opponent (6'4) ,some techniques will not gonna work, you can't throw roundhouse to head, cause the your leg travels a long distance, its not elusive, he can easily see that and get a counter attack, Or if your kick when through, ur opponent might not be able to feel anything and get a counter attack if you hit vital parts, then you may be able to bring ur opponent down, or do follow up combination strikes all techniques are good but it depends on the situation

@1bol1 Not death by one kick?! Are you serious? Paolothemaster wasn't wrong with that statement. If you guys ever get into World Class TKD sparring, you will know being hospitalized is only one kick away. Using this in the street under the right conditions is useful. BUT if you nail someone with a strong enough kick, you can break their arm, regardless if they block. All I can say is train hard. There is a difference between sparring and fighting. Use this mentality and your TKD will be deadly.

They're TKD they don't have any hand technics lol just kidding, but all kidding aside these guys are so quick and agile with their kicking techniques it would be hard for you to land a punch, Think about this way..your legs having a longer reach than your arms and your legs are more powerful too, and these dudes use their feet like we use our hands in a fight, so who do you think most likely to land more blows without getting hit??..

  • @paolothemaster

there is a systematic approach in mixing martial arts otherwise, its not effective example -> taekwondo, its very vulnerable multiple punches, set punch, coz hands are down, and also take downs, although has defense on grappling but it is minimal compare to jujitsu
