Yeah, if Newey really is a home body, he's going to McLaren or Aston Martin. Williams would be a neat reunion, but they don't build road cars like McLaren or Aston Martin do. There are many advantages and disadvantages between McLaren and Aston Martin that would appeal to Newey as well. One that's common between both of them is the apparent lack of politics within the teams currently. Aston Martin would also have the Valkyrie project to their name as well, along with their previous affiliation to Red Bull and therefore their previous relationship with Newey, which is something that might appeal to him. Not to mention they have Fernando Alonso, which Adrian did express interest in working with. On the other hand, McLaren builds more extreme cars than Aston Martin, and like returning to Williams, it would be a poetic return to a team of his past. Both have their own unique pros and cons, so it'd be interesting to see where he goes next. Ferrari looks a bit less likely than it once did tho

A move to Ferrari would involve a move to Maranello, which is a far move for someone like him, and Ferrari's internal politics are borderline insane to say the least. If he turned down Aston Martin, then he's going back to McLaren

Serious question. Why is everyone saying Newey won’t go to Ferrari if he isn’t prepared to leave the UK? Surely with technology such as video collaboration, multi Gb internet connectivity and a 1 hour time difference between the UK and Italy he can make a useful contribution to the engineering team?

(Not sure if you saw it) had to double check the transcript on KZread to ensure I heard that correctly, Soo glad you discussed this in the detail that you always do! I’m a huge LH fan so I’m hoping this isn’t true however I have just started working for McLaren racing so for me personally this wouldn’t be the worse thing to happen. Let’s see what happens but it would be such a fairy tale ending for Adrian and Lewis if they could get Ferrari a championship after so long. 😊

If any could remember, Eddie Jordan, said couple a years back, that Lewis would move to Ferrari at some point. Point.

If he wants a job somewhere that he can be active long-term, well into his retirement years, then staying in Britain makes sense. If course he's Newey, so even if he spent the next five years at Ferrari he could find a role almost anywhere, especially if he wins with Ferrari. Moving to Italy would likely be more simulating and engaging for the mind, though. If might be better there for keeping his senses sharp unless he became more isolated there due the language barrier and having just of his friends and family father away.

I think you might be on to something here... He seems to be quite chummy with Zak Brown... Plus he already worked at McLaren so it will be familiar for him... Which would make it a more comfortable change for him... Let's see how it unfolds. But he is not retiring. That is for sure.

If and when SLH wins his 8th and 9th, it’s better if the credit is not attributed to the best F1 designer, as would be the spin.

I spotted the Zak reference too and then the quick correction! Is he playing 4D chess to stir up the market and Ferrari's offer?

@@CameronF1. I'm just delighted Newey is staying in the sport, its just better with him in it! Newey/Hamilton/LeClerc or Newey/Lando/Piastri might mean we can get some racing at the front again

EJ knew Lewis was going to Ferrari before Lewis knew himself, now Newey is leaving Red Bull who EJ manages. When we see Newey at Ferrari, let us just finally acknowledge EJ pulled all the strings and he is a very powerful man in F1, who behaves like the butt of everyones joke but he is the smartest out of the lot. Nothing is more powerful than a person who acts like an everyday person, but really is the boss who is running the ship.

Do we know who forwarded the “Lewis to Ferrari” email blast. Hope like heck he goes to Ferrari ( I wonder if it was EJ?)

Although it is highly unlikely, Newey maube gunning to have Ferrari let him work remotely, like how John Barnard operated out of Guildford GTO.

Eddie isn’t stupid, he wouldn’t let it slip that easily. He’s just stirring the pot, knowing everyone will react exactly like you are now. Personally, I hope he does go to McLaren.

If Newey doesn't retire, I don't see why he wouldn't go to Ferrari.

Mclaren makes sense to me , I think they are primed to take Championship in 26 with their drivers and investment so they will aim for title's in 26 and I think Ferrari will keep them honest.

Rumors & cryptic worded interviews keep the F1 machine churning (& the KZread checks flowing I might add). But, when the dust settles he's going to end up with Ferrari (i'm talking 90% chance)... The ONLY other team that could be a potential dark horse (no pun intended) would be Austin Martin & Alonso imo.

I think he’ll take a step back to get a read on the “pulse”, see who falls where. Personally, I don’t think Ferrari is all that likely. Yes, he wants to work with them and Lewis, BUT, they’re looking to be the best set team for the new regs even without him. Ferrari, without Newey, already have the second best aero (arguably the best now, looking at the results of both Imola FPs), and even if Newey were to just retire, Ferrari would have the best aero, even if just on the account of no other team having Newey. Plus, they have one of the best engines and best tyre wear. Ferrari are looking to have the most complete package. They look set to dominate in the new era even without Newey. So going to Ferrari now would be like joining Mercedes in 2014. Newey is someone who likes a challenge, and there would be no challenge going to the best team, who got to the top even without his work. Plus, he does not seem like the kind of guy who would just enjoy riding on the coattails of other people’s success. He would probably see going to the top team as the complete opposite of humility. I read people’s comments on IG and all over YT, and many people whine Newey is a man who would have so much hubris as to just go and reap the rewards from other’s hard work. That does not sound like Newey to me. And that’s not even getting into the fact that despite these same people complimenting Fred, they clearly aren’t giving him all the credit for everything he has done. So unless Ferrari somehow catastrophically destroys all of Fred’s hard work, Newey probably would not go to them as they do not need him. Instead, he could always do other work with them. Maybe even collaborate on a new hypercar (either for sale or WEC. Maybe even both). Newey did the Valkyrie, and Lewis collaborated with Mercedes on the AMG-One; this way, Newey would be able to achieve his dream of working with Ferrari and Lewis, and still have a challenge, that of making an iconic, monstrous car for an iconic, historic brand. And, as with all “normal” cars (as normal as a hypercar is), he wouldn’t have the massive stress and pressure of thinking up and designing upgrades every few weekends. Plus, he could have the joy of knowing that he not only has two hypercars, but that he designed each’s own rival (the Valkyrie and the Ferrari).

@@CameronF1. That would be epic. Whilst I’m a huge Lewis fan, it would be good to see Lando and Piastri fight for their first championship. With those young and highly skilled drivers, McLaren is very attractive.

Dominance is extremely hard to achieve in which the level of Redbull is performing. Of course Newey is one significant factor in the formula. Max being equally and more important to the mix. Beyond that, the whole team matters. I don’t believe that where ever Adrian goes will he have Cart Blanche. All the teams have designers who are professionals and take pride in their work. I can’t see any of them just stepping aside to give Adrian a blank canvas. My long winded point is, I can’t see some epic immediate boost in performance to be running with the Bulls that are Red (as Cameron would say)

As great as Adrian Newey is he got beaten by the GOAT Michael Schumacher plenty of times while at Benetton and at Ferrari as well. And who is the Schumi of today? Max Verstappen. So let's see, is it the driver or the designer?

So do you personally know these people I highly doubt it . But everyone is titled to and opinion the thing with opinions are they are like but holes everyone has got one but only those close to you get to see it

Instead of fixing races with a faulty Safety Car procedure they should rather pay Newey to never ever work in F1 again, thats the only way you will get close races. And if he doesn't accept? Kidnap him and his entire family, buy a nice island in the caribbean filled with all the luxuries one could want and hire a bunch of scary mercenaries to make sure he never leaves the island. 🤣😂 I think that will be a much cheaper solution than to have him make another banger of a car and have to lose viewers because nobody came close to what he drew up with his pen.

If Zak wanted him he could get him as there good mates but I’m not convinced he does. Zak is loyal to a fault.

You also need a driver that can drive a Newey car.... Checo ,Gasley, and Albon can't really ..... this is what we know... will Lando, Oscar,Charels, Fernando or Lewis can?... thats a tekki question !!!!

McLaren is a been there done that situation for Newey. He's old and both he and his wife are tired of the old dreary English weather. That's why they're moving to Italy. Done deal, signatures affixed, and the ink is dry. All that's left is the formal announcement. This was suppose to be a surprise joint announcement from Newey and Ferrari at a later date, like that of Lewis Hamilton, but after Newey informed his technical team of his departure and submitted his resignation at Red Bull, someone in Red Bull leaked his imminent departure to the press. That's why even Red Bull was caught off guard and they didn't yet have a ready statement for the situation. They were still ironing out Newey's exit clause when the news broke out.

Newey at Ferrari is not going to happen I think. Newey is an independant soul and working with Ferrari does not fit with that. All the politics there would not suit him. McLaren makes a lot more sense I think

Ferrari don't need Newey to win they need an experience driver to put them in a position to win. Leclerc. Sainz and Ferrari incompetence lost them the 2022 championship.

Someone always knows something, throwing this cat all of a sudden out of the bag, I don't believe it. Don't even care if they are going fishing every single day. This is tactics. It is the same ED, that want Newey to retire. So.........boys will be boys.

I would just retire and play with my grandkids if I was him. F1 is bitshy sport.
