Personally would take the food away . Put it back down, repeat until the kitty understands not to act that way to the person feeding them. One of them "I gave it to you I'll take it away" cases.

Growing up, we always had cats. My mom loved cats. When one cat would die, we'd always get one or two kittens within a month or so. Whenever a kitten would hiss at me, I'd just pick it up and carry it around the house for five minutes. After a couple of times they quit hissing, either because the realized I was not a threat or they realized I was all powerful and unstoppable, bigger, faster, stronger. Or they realized both. Kittens are awesome.

We had a couple kittens at different times when I was growing up! Oddly enough, usually the one that would start out hissing and growling at me, would end up being the one that would never leave my side.

They think that when they're hissing makes them look fierce, uh, uh, they just look darn cute and adorable 💕 just by hissing. So protective of their food!!!

Poor babies. So defensive. We rescued our boy Seymour 6 years ago as a baby and he was hissy and spicy. He's now super lovable and wants all of the skirtches.

I can't help but love cats/kittens... They're so spirited & although they're renowned for their indifference and aloofness, if a cat decides that they love & trust you then you'll have a fluffy soul mate forever!... X

Fun fact: there is a virus or fungus or whatever (forgot what it was) that is basically permanent, and all it really does is make you very docile and loving with cats, this evolved because it was a mutual assistant with cats hunting and with the illness spreading

Me and mine rough house a lot and when she gets too wound up she'll hiss at me. Ears are still up and no growling or striking, just her way of saying I need to tone it down. 15 seconds later she's ready to play again, very smart and sassy🙂

Actually, a lot of them were just pretending, practicing methods of deterrence and/or dominance. In some of the instances, that's evident from the fact that the kitten right next to them remains completely calm. In the few cases where they were legitimately afraid, that was most likely due to undersocialization. They lacked the repeat experience of being handled, and were unaware that it's a small inconvenience, at worst, and rewarding, at best. There's only one way of curing this, and that's handling them, frequently, until they stop being afraid. There's nothing cruel about it.

@@erikjrn4080 none of them was pretending. They are way to young, that was pure instinct for defense. The kittens or cats next to them have nothing to do with the instinct kicking in that they are in danger.

@@kippesolo8941 Kittens start all forms of play as soon as they have the physical coordination for it. Playing is itself an instinct. Moreover, playing is nothing other than deliberate triggering of their other instincts, but minus the strong emotions connected to it in adults. Quite simply, very nearly all the time, a kitten acting scared is not only not scared; it's enjoying it. The notion of a kitten being old enough to see your hand, and still too young to play ranks pretty high on the list of "dumbest things I've ever heard". During their third week, they start interactive play with their litter mates. That's only days after their sight has developed well enough to recognize the general shape of their mother, and while their main sense for navigation is still smell. It's also the time when they begin to play with human hands. Of course the response of the kitten next to it matters. If it's not the least bit scary to the other kitten, that means two things. 1) Even if one of the kittens should be a bit more excitable than the other, it's clearly limited how scary it can be. 2) The calmness of the calm kitten will reassure the other kitten, while the agitation of the scared kitten will agitate the calm kitten. This is a very strong effect. When complete and utter calmness wins out in one of the kittens, it's very unlikely that the other is scared, and far more likely that it's just playful. Seriously, this is pretty much "kitten 101". If it's unknown to you, you should read up a bit and collect some experience, before commenting anything more advanced than "aw, cute" on kitten videos.

Don't tease the kitten so they fear or hate you. Be gentle. Use toys, not your hands to play with them. You don't want them to learn that you or your hands are something to claw, bite, play with, attack or fear. Handle cats carefully. The wrong way can make them uncomfortable or hurt them, so they'll become anti-social. Play with them with toys, give them gentle brushings, & pettings on their favorite spots. If you show your cat a good time, they'll want to be with you, & love you. If they growl, hiss, & screech at you, pull out a toy & try to play with them, while maybe tossing them a treat. A treat alone, may only teach the to beg for food or like the contain & treat, not you. Discipline should be a spray bottle with water, not slapping, striking, or hitting. A squirt of water with a simple command like "out", "off" or "stop" & they will eventually learn. They are not dogs though, so they don't think the way dogs or people do. After they've been squirted or yelled at, you must try to pet them or give them a treat so they know you are still a friend, & not a threat. It cannot be all training & discipline though. If you don't regularly try to show a cat a good or fun time daily, they'll likely avoid you, or not listen to you.

@@user-zq9xh4rc3c can you elaborate why you thought the camera person is tormenting them? Cause you don't know what happened to the kitten, yes most of the kitten in the video is scare/afraid but that's doesn't mean they torment the kitten

Too many people think that forcing a scared/angry kitten to interact with you, even when they are clearly not ready is the way to socialize it. Sure after a long time even hissing kittens will realize you're not going to hurt it. But that is despite these types of interactions which only makes the kitten associate you with the bad feelings they have when around you. It's best to give them some space to calm down. They will figure out on their own that you are, at least, relatively safe. Offer it some food with you close by but far enough away for it to eat it safely. It will eventually feel safe enough to get near you and then slowly offer it your hand to sniff.

You are right. I wonder if there is such thing as high blood pressure in kittens. I scared my cat who I adopted from a shelter and I felt bad immediately. I then talked to a client how to approach and pet her without scaring her. I seek advice to do it properly. However, on the other hand, when they get scared, angry and defensive, they look so cute and such an amazing character that I think is priceless.
